Watched the Ring, it was decent but the first theatrical film is undermined when the ex-husband character just casually reveals his psychic powers and it never goes touched on or brought up again. Ju-on was boring, student film tier - some shots were outright farcical (I burst out laughing at the scene where she's in the lift and the kid appears on every floor). Kairo was shit, excruciatingly dull, one of the most aimless, insipid films I've ever seen in my life. Jason is reanimated because of the events of Freddie vs Jason and murders start happening. The Final Girls (and Jessica's daughter) realizes that their kids are in the vicinity and rush to save them. Tina and Tommy are the last to show up (Tommy's in Hollywood while Tina had to tap into her psychic potential again). The other Final Girls slow down Jason (though some of them get seriously wounded or killed fighting him) and Tommy (with Trish to save him at a critical moment by getting out of her self-imposed isolation) keeps him distracted with Tina to finally split him apart and scatter his remains.

So far today I've watched Vampirella 1996, When A Stranger Calls 1979 and just finished House On Haunted Hill 1999.Vampirella wasn't great, but the outfit Talisa Soto runs around in really shows off her butt and nice thighs. It was fun. Bit of a mixed bag, but it was good. Obviously on the lower budget side but a lot of the effects/spooks were pretty good and it was pretty fast paced - something happens every 5 or 10 minutes, which is commendable. Some things I didn't like: felt like it was made by the people who made Oddity; the blonde actress in the second half of the film looked and performed like Lisa from The Room and the actor that played her husband was equally as bad; the lore wasn't as fully developed as I think the creators thought it was. The actual, specific setting is totally unimportant but they still decided to throw in a period-accurate reference to WBCN, which is a now-defunct rock station that operated out of the Boston area from the late 20th century into the early 2000s. Thought that was weird because if I wasn't originally from the Boston area I wouldn't have caught it at all and it's the only real reference to the region besides one line that the original guy in the beginning delivers with a Boston accent. Like, why bother? Just make it "Springfield, USA" in the minds of the viewers and don't place it in any specific region.

Watched this last night, it got dumped on Amazon Prime VOD last week and goes up on Apple+ for streaming on the 18th in a pretty cynical attempt to cash in on the hype for Eggers' remake. It's alright, Doug Jones' Orlok is fantastic and unsurprisingly completely steals the show, but the general quality of the acting otherwise is pretty bad - the guy who plays Hutter in particularly is terrible. They've also turned him into a total asshole (he cheats on Mina with some random barmaid about fifteen minutes into the movie and is a prick to her for the whole thing), which is something I've never seen a Dracula adaption do so blatantly.The credits also give a big thank you to the Kickstarter backers, which is pretty funny since they all got completely hoodwinked.
