Who would be stupid enough to buy them?

>>204611553
I would buy them and put myself in charge of all their films. I'd "leak" the plot on /tv/ and if fewer than five people call it kino, it gets axed.
>>
>>204611553
They have a large library, and they'd be cheap. The stock keeps bouncing off of a $7 bottom.

Pretty fucked and they already know this. It will sink the DCU right there. The Superman & Lois show just started it's final season and I can already see Gunn's influence.

would these companies be profitable if they stopped trying to make new movies/shows and just managed their existing content?
I know that's not free. They'd need lawyers to sue when their copyrights are violated, and salespeople to deal with TV channels and streaming services that air their content.
But if the numbers work for keeping the minimum amount of employees to collect payments for the old stuff people actually want to see, that's gotta be smarter than dumping money into new movies that nobody wants and will be forgotten in a year.

Not really any more fucked than usual. They are going to have to have a reconciliation with reality though, which is that the superhero genre is going to be dead for the next 10 years and that they blew their shot at success multiple times over. Superman Legacy is the last straw but it's not the straw that broke the camel's back. The reason Warner Bros. failed is because they could never pick a direction and stick with it, and that ultimately undid them. I think it will take Superman Legacy failing to make them realize that they have a problem that they can't just reboot their way out of.

I think Warner Bros. is going to have to rest the DC universe for 10 years, at least. They will have to focus on lower budget critical darlings that can bring in profit, with an occasional spectacle driven blockbuster. Then, maybe, in the 2030s when people are having lots of kids again and the worst execs at the studio have been phased out, they can take a risk at starting up superhero movies for a new generation. After all these years of bad superhero movies everyone is just tired.

>>204611420
They already did. AT&T wanted to do what Comcast did with NBC Universal but they gave up as soon as they launched HBO Max. They spun off Warner Bros. so they could merge with Discovery. AT&T had their foot in the entertainment industry for a hot minute and the executive culture at Warner Bros. was so toxic and backstabby that they wanted out almost as fast as they got in.

HBO Max is a fine service, it's one of the only ones I'm subscribed to. I don't think Warner Bros. will go out of business but they will be forced to become smaller and more profitable, which means no more superhero movies for a long time. If I was a doctor trying to diagnose Warner Bros, I'd tell them they are spending too much money on superhero movies and they can't make them profitable. The prescription would be to stop making superhero movies for the foreseeable future.

>>
>>204614270
HBO is winning actually, just right now the penguin show is wiping the floor with the competition. These companies lose way more money ln streaming than what they make on theaters and HBO is doing fine in that regard
>>
>>204614390
Imagine a future where Microsoft is the one that buys Warner Brothers. They already offered them $2 billion for their videogame publishing arm but WB's terms were too strict to follow through.

I want Superman to flop and for Gunn's DCU to crash and burn but I also really don't want to see WB go under. Amazon owns MGM. Disney owns Fox. Paramount will probably be bought out by Netflix or something. Warner is the only one left.

ezra miller unironically
WB could have cut ties and recast Flash in 2019/2020 since their contract from 2014 was expiring…and instead chose to renew the contract
>>
>>204613955
They coasted off their popular franchises while they let them rot into shit (DC, Harry Potter, LOTR, Matrix, Looney Tunes, etc) and didn't develop any new franchises in the mean time

The whole Snyderverse thing
>>

This. Mike DeLuca is one of the few competent execs left and his lone accomplishment at WB is that lucky shitfest Barbie. The guy used to be a champion for writers and original stories but somehow has completely lost the plot.

Wishful thinking, but Snyderverse ended with Aquaman 1 and that made a billion dollars. The Hamadaverse and Gunnverse is what really killed it.

>I think Warner Bros. is going to have to rest the DC universe for 10 years, at least.
This. They need to bring DC back to TV but not like the Arrowverse. Superman for example should have a dedicated TV show like it was in the past so that the character is constantly with with us every year.
>A fresh reboot from the start.
>Call it Metropolis and bring it to one of the main networks like ABC, Fox or CBS.
>Have it be 20 episodes a season
>First season is mainly about Lois and Clark investigating Lex Luthor.
>Freak of the week type stories as there are meta humans and some who have been affected by the meteor shower in Smallville.
>It is a romance story, eventually culminating in a wedding by the end of the 3rd season.
>Lex Luthor will get taken down at the end of the first season but will be released from prison in the 3rd season.
>Lex did live in Smallville with his father Lionel for a few years when Clark was a teenager. This is how we can get some flashback episodes.
>In the meantime Intergang will become the dominant overarching villain during the 2nd and 3rd seasons.
>There is no fortress of solitude. Clark does not know of Jor-El until the second season because of Brainiac who will bring Kryptonian technology with him.
>The only piece of Kryptonian tech is from his space craft. That is where Ai Jor-El is located.
>The creation of the Superman identity is formed by Clark on his own. Lois will name "Superman" in her first story about him.
>The Superman suit is a classic spandex open collar, undies and large S shield on the front and on the cape.

The mistake of the DCEU was most of the films made could have been part of a Superman or Batman film.
>Suicide Squad (Both films) and Peacemaker
Completely pointless. Should have just made a Affleck Batman film and explored some of the SS story there.
>Shazam
Should have been a Superman film that spun off the character of Shazam instead.
>Blue Beetle
I wish this character never existed. It's just Power Rangers. Again this character could have been introduced in a Superman film.
>The Flash
This should have been a plain solo film that did not involve time travel/multiverse as part of the main story. It was a Justice League film in disguise.

Frankly Smallville and the DCAU was the best of DC before it fell of a cliff halfway through the DCEU.

The constant downfall of WB is so depressing. They made some of my favorite movies, have CN, Adult Swim, and Toonami. I don’t know what the hell happened but it’s going to be sad when it shuts down and everything’s sold off

Netflix would buy them in a heartbeat, even if just for the back catalogue.

You see, that, in times of streaming is a licence to print money. However it has been hilariously mismanaged by Their parent company that seems to know nothing about films at all. For example in Britain Warner Bros films don't have an automatic streamer and you are reliant on catching their films in the cinema or on, usually, the Sky movie tv channel after a while or paying per film on a rental website, if you want to watch online. You could buy them in DVD/Blu-ray, but honestly that's a last resort thing nowadays.

As Warner Bros will be absorbed by Netflix Warner Bros itself will cease to exist as Netflix put out films under their own brand identity already.
>>
>>204619166
Agreed. DCEU also had other problems such as reshoots and screwing over some of their actors(Henry Cavill & Ray Fisher), while treating Marvel directors like gold(Joss Whedon, James Gunn).
>>
>>204619845
>while treating Marvel directors like gold(Joss Whedon, James Gunn).
That's the real downfall. WB never learn.

Barbie was a targeted hit at a specific demographic. They really needed one. Its not over yet, trust the plan
