It at least tried, it failed but tried unlike the 2019 one.The spider opening scene was a bit too silly for the tone the rest of the movie was going for.The southern gothic aesthetic is always cool but the witches theme itself was weak and overdone.The crooked man himself was a bit disappointing too.The ex soldier returning to set things write was a fantastic trope and should have been even more involved in the movie if not being outright the protagonist, i mean he was massively involved but he had to be even more.The more subdued Hellboy was well done, and the actor worked imo; hinting at Hellboy having more knowledge than in the other movies, always knowing more than he lets on, dunno if thats more faithful to the comics or not but it always grated me that he is a dum dumb on the Ron Perlman ones.The girl sidekick was boring as fuck they should have played her up on embracing her emotions for a big ass spell, instead they half cocked it.The preacher might as well not been there.The effects didnt bother me too much but they were obviously cheap.Hard to recommend if it costs money but perfectly fine to watch on stream at home.

Very low stakes for a Hellboy movie.It also feels a lot like a medium-high budget TV series that they had to turn into a movie.As much of a 7/10 as it can be. Better than mid, not amazing.
