THIS REVIEW WAS TYPED ENTIRELY ON A MECHANICAL KEYBOARD
just finished this - not bad. kind of a woman's film, but all the running around in lingerie was pleasant.
I feel like long shots that are just a excuse to play half a great song is kind of cheating (like in I Saw the TV Glow), but I can't really blame them.

Art the Clown becoming THE 2020s horror icon basically overnight with the 2nd and 3rd films got me thinking. Are there any horror icons from the 2010s? The best I could come up with was Annabelle
>>
I have three options for Halloween.
>1
Stay home and binge a bunch of horror films, with all the comfort that entails; can choose the movie, perfect temperature, get as cozy as I want
>2
Go to my local theater and watch a double feature: The Substance followed by the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre and then grab a burger on the way home
>3
Go to a drive-in theater and watch Nightmare Before Christmas, The Shinning and Night of the Living Dead. I'd have to bring good from home for dinner and I've never been to a drive-in theater so I don't know if I'll enjoy it.

What sounds like the best plan?

>>
>>205044097
All Hallows Eve came out in 2013 so Art would technically be a 2010s icon. Sam from Trick r' Treat and Victor Crowley from Hatchet got pretty popular in the 2010s.
>>
>>205044303
>>205044362

Now that I think about it, in theory I could probably do 2 and because of the schedule I could still get to the drive-in theater and catch Night of the Living dDead, provided there's still room for parking.

I really want to watch TCM in theaters.
>>205044581
It's very likely, the first movie is bound to be packed because it's Nightmare Before Christmas so that'll have a lot of families. Shining will be the great filter and I don't know how many people will be willing to go to a midnight showing of a black and white, 1960s movie, so at that point the place might be much emptier.
>>205044586
I'm really tempted to do it. Even better, after TCM I'll have a couple of hours to eat and rest, so I'll be able to decide if I'm in the mood to drive to see a third film.

You’ll Never Find Me (2024) – A Worth a Watch with a lot of artistic dialog *expertly* delivered, it makes good use of its two-person cast. The lines are always powerful, but a little *over-done* in parts -- eyebrow-raising in their floweriness I might say, but I’m not gone to criticize the dialog as being “unbelievable”, because the world of cinema is an AMPLIFIED REALITY anyway. The setting is limited, like the cast: it’s a comfy, if cluttered, little trailer in cheap court in Australia, in a HOWLING RAINSTORM, and you don’t get far beyond its confines. A bearded man with an eternally hangdog expression calls it his lonely home, but during the storm he gets an unexpected visitor: a young shoeless woman who keeps changing her story about how she got into the locked mobile home park, and where she came from before that.

It’s nicely constructed in many ways, with one quietly tense moment after another, and I can NEVER fault the quality of the acting -- but the overall story is a bit of a GENERIC one, and you’ll have it figured out before you get very far. However, a movie, like life itself, isn’t just about beginnings and endings; it’s all the little pieces in between that make up the experience. You can do some nice things with an old setup. That said . . . the basic story of anything is like a container that ultimately limits *what* pieces you can fit into it, and it would have been a better movie all around -- and a better bottle for all that fancy dialog -- if it had been conceived with more originality.

In the end, we are left with a question: Were the happenings supernatural or NOT? Yes, I’m afraid it’s one of those.

The Faculty is the late nineties classic, a Breakfast Club + Body Snatchers sort of thing. The feeeeels man, the feeeeels. Good drama too. Interview with the Vampire is so good, peak aesthetic vampire degeneracy before the outright rainbow flag stuff ruined it.

The movie doesn't take itself too seriously and has a lot going for it:
-a classic good vs evil theme
-Alex Essoe in lingerie
-female nudity
-gore
-interesting setting
It was such a huge hit it actually brought from the depths The Last Exorcism, an unintentionally funny movie that was clearly incomplete that the studio quickly rehashed w/ some reshoots and released for a quick buck

>And yet, instead of packing seats at multiplexes due to pent-up demand, everything from director Eli Roth’s irreverent console-to-screen adventure “Borderlands” ($32 million globally), the “Crow” reboot ($23.7 million) and historical crime drama “1992” ($2.9 million) to Halle Berry’s post-apocalyptic horror story “Never Let Go” ($16.2 million), Dave Bautista-led action-comedy “The Killer’s Game” ($5.9 million), Francis Ford Coppola’s sci-fi epic “Megalopolis” ($11.2 million) and “Wonder” prequel “White Bird” ($6.8 million) has sputtered at the box office. That’s a string of seven consecutive flops — each with paltry single-digit debuts — in the nine weeks between early August and mid-October.

>Director Michael Reeves wanted Donald Pleasence to play Matthew Hopkins but "American-International Pictures," the American distributor and co-financier of the film, insisted that Vincent Price play the title character and Reeves grudgingly accepted, heavily re-writing the script to better fit Price's persona, making Hopkins more imposing and menacing instead of pathetic and effeminate as originally intended. Upon meeting Price for the first time, Reeves told the star, "I didn't want you and I still don't want you; but I'm stuck with you." Price however, did not take this lying down, and after one of their arguments told the director, "Young man, I have made 84 movies. How many have you made?" Reeves, who up to that point had only made the critically reviled The She Beast (1966), and The Sorcerers (1967), responded defiantly, "Two good ones!" causing Price to laugh loudly.

binging Tales From the Crypt today for a hit of seasonal smack.
Weather never turned autumnal and films just aren't putting me in that Halloween headspace.
I need that high-camp 80/90s commercial TV production with the crazy Dutch angles, stark colorful lighting, theatrical sets and simple pulp comic morality tales- very comfy dose of nostalgia.
Although I like horror in many varieties old and new, I think this is what I'm imagining when delving through the vintage scrap heap for "horror" but it only really existed on television and a few campy features from that specific filmmaking era

>Reeves died in London a few months after the film's release. After shooting Witchfinder General, he was at work on an adaptation of The Oblong Box. He was taking tablets to help him sleep. On the morning of 11 February 1969, Reeves was found dead in his bedroom, aged 25, in Cadogan Place, Knightsbridge, by his cleaning lady. The coroner's report stated that Reeves's death (from a barbiturate overdose) was accidental, the dosage being too marginal to suggest intention
