What real life events do you think would make for some great horror films? I'm surprised no one has taken a crack at making a full length feature based on Welle's radio broadcast of War of the Worlds and the ensuing batshit paranoia and insanity that followed after it.

Interview with the Vampire (1994) – An Excellent exploration of the *aesthetic* degeneracy vampires are prone to. We start with vampiric Brad Pitt being interviewed by Christian Slater in what I WISH was still the modern day. Louis is bored and lonely; he “craves the light” in a metaphorical sense, desiring to spill his beans to someone -- and it just so happens that the man he was considering for his evening meal is a journalist. Louis establishes the verity of his claim right from the beginning, by zipping around the room using his vampire superpowers to fiddle with a light switch.

We dive right into the deep, as Louis recounts his final human years as a rich young plantation owner driven to reckless ennui by the death of his wife and child. His dissipation (and beauty, oh my!) attract the attention of the vampire Lestat (Tom Cruise), who introduces him to the World of the Night. There are almost no CG effects; sets full of fancy wood and stone abound, populated by people in actual WELL-WORN-SEEMING period costumes; most of the scenes take place at night and are lit by flickering candlelight, torchlight, gaslight. It’s a warm and attractive couching for pale, effete dead men who drain blood to survive -- RICHLY ANTIQUE I would say, and it does a lot to make what they do seem attractive. You can just about smell and feel swampy Old Louisiana, the musty props used time and again by the troupe of theatrical vamps in Paris. And so few of the production period’s fledgling computer effects are used -- mostly for rapidly growing vampire teeth, or similar things -- that the effect is rarely disturbed by anything.
>>
>>205058727
What a handsome young man!
>>
>>205058774
2/2

The aesthetic degeneracy that defined cinematic vampires in the 1990s and 2000s is in full swing here (obviously it was present in fiction for a long time before). We have constant scenes in which beautiful dead boys come very close to kissing each other; people get off from being drained and vamps get off FROM draining them (there is no actual sex anywhere); Louis’ and Lestat’s adopted ETERNAL tween vampire daughter brings a weird tone of pedophilia into the mix. These are people for whom morality and mundane law holds no sway, but the movie makes it all seem almost . . . *cool*. You couldn’t make this movie now. Everybody would be getting anally railed AND they wouldn’t touch the Claudia thing with a ten-foot pole. The whole lawless, vaguely bisexual, HEMOSEXUAL vampire world would be warped into a ridiculous PRIDE PARADE of sorts. So enjoy this! It’s a little time capsule from a vanished world. The Universal era wouldn’t have touched this kind of vampire -- and the modern era would *ruin* it.

It’s strange how some of the best movies lurk in plain sight for so long you forget about them. When I was a kid, my parents rented this fresh on VHS, and what did I do? I ran into the basement to play Nintendo for hours because GAY VAMPIRES WERE FOR GIRLS.

>A typed, unsigned letter dated 11 April (the date may have been added afterwards) is sent to Xavier's immediate family. This was revealed by the press on 5 May.[50] In this letter, Xavier explains that after having worked covertly for the American Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the entire family has had to relocate to the United States as part of a Federal Witness Protection Program, and that no one will be able to contact them for a few years. He advises his relatives to circulate reports on social media that the family has in fact moved to Australia. There is no proof that this letter was written by Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès.

I kind of imagined it as a two man job where part of the film is debating the morality of what they're doing, maybe like True Detective but with a younger MC. would be able to mix in a lot incidences to real conspiracies, maybe have some hints of shadow agents, them not understanding if they're the experimenters or the experiment kind of thing.

One of the worst fims I have ever seen in my life. Evil and depraved. 1/10. There is also a flashback of a man with a pig mask getting fisted in his anus (Not like in Caligula, this one was for real in a SM gay party). And of course, It's a german film.

The trailer turned me off from watching this. Maybe it's just the way movies are made now, but it feels like every director thinks they're a genius and their slow, folky horror movie where the scary parts are just loud bursts of noise is going to amaze the audience and be the next great horror film. They all do this shit and it's never interesting.

horror adjacent. for example, serial killer movies arent really horror, very much thriller, but its like comparing oranges and lemons. both are citrus. if you go down that road, even a war movie can be considered horror, depending on the style. 1917 for example has a lot of horror elements in certain scenes.

its not the same. youre in tune with a bunch of other people around the globe regarding this specific time of year. on a shared subconcious level it elevates the horror, and all the leaves are starting to fall out and turn yellow, its the perfect month that signifies the beginning of the end (of the year). there is also a lot of themed horror for the year round. TCM needs to be watched during the hottest day of the year to be fully appreciated, so you can almost smell the movie.
