Why didn't they have a fire at night?
>>
Stephen King found this too scary to watch, go figure
>>
>>205066570
What do you mean?
>>
So were they actually killed by a witch or just some random crazy person in the woods?
>>
>>205066570

it was the early 90's, they didnt have fire back then
>>
>>205066570
Because they thought there was a group of people fucking with them so they didn’t want to set a fire. This was quite literally said in the movie
>>
>>205066886
I watched at 4x speed
>>
Someone should stream this

>>205066778
Definitively supernatural.
>>
>>205066570
why didnt she blow her fucking nose before doing that scene
>>
so like could the witch only kill them in the house or could she have killed them in the woods?
>>
>>205067026
on a phone too?
>>
>>205066778
There's the theory that the two guys murdered her cause she turned down one of the guys who had been simping for her.
>>
>>205067274
but they died too
>>
>>205067274
One of the worst fan theories ever. Makes zero sense.

The film is very well structured as a short feature, which is a big part of why it works. Their oppression is gradual, and becomes worse over time. First, it's simply cold. Unusually cold, even for a fall night. Second, once they're well and truly lost, torrential rain begins, just plain mocking them at this point. Third, after a few nights they dare not even light a fire any more because they suspect that who ever's fucking with them is tracking them by watching their fires. So now they can't even get properly warm any more.

The film takes place over eight days and eight nights, and runs for almost exactly eighty minutes (as a short feature, it sticks to the point, accomplishes what it teases, and doesn't overstay its welcome). There is an even back-and-forth between the day-and-night segments, which average five minutes apiece, a nice decent time for a single scene/sequence/dynamic to play out. This eight days/eight nights contrivance is so central to the structure of the film that the DVD chapter stops themselves use it as obvious cutoff points.

Why did people think this was real? My mum brought me to see it when I was 9 and I knew it was just a movie and I was only 9 but my mum thought it was real.
>>
>>205066666
What do you mean?
>>
Why didnt they bring guns? Would you really go to forest in middle of nowhere without a handgun and a shotgun and a rifle?
>>
>>205068204
Yes if I was a fag amateur filmmaker from a blue state and a liberal arts college. Besides, guns don't work on satanic witchcrafters
>>
>>205068307
well im a chud and if I went to woods I would bare minimum bring a handgun, shotgun and rifle and an axe for each person
>>
So was there theoretically any way for them to escape the woods and at what point did they become trapped? Was it as soon as they walked in or not till they fucked with the witches shit?
>>
>>205066570
I feel bad for the people who didn't get to experience this marketing first hand

This is a cursed lake, Mr Anon, Blair witches haunt cursed lakes -- do you want to be rescued or a spooky hags basement bitch?

Anon, if you want me to run your little camping trip there are two conditions:
firstly, i have have the map and when i don't Josh does.
secondly my fee, you can keep it. all i want in exchange for my services is the right to hunt one of the Sasquatches - a male, buck only, how and why are my business.
Now if you don't like either of those two conditions then you're on your own. So go ahead, set up next to a cursed lake or an abandoned summer camp, or right in the middle of an indian burial ground for all i care -- cause i've been lost in the woods with too many rich college students to listen to any more suicidal ideas.
>>
>>205068985
This sounds way better than Blair Witch 3.
>>
>>205066570
>>205066666
the only thing this plot makes sense is if this was all staged by the dudes so they have an excuse to rape her
>>
>>205066570
Mystery is literally dead in the world and it is eroding my soul. Nothing like Blair Witch could exist anymore.
>>
>>205068373
Okay, but all of that would be useless seeing as they were trapped in an alternate dimension by the witch.
>>
How did the person/people who found the video tape get out of the forest?
>>
why didnt the witch just kill them immediately in the forest?

It's really once they've filmed at Coffin Rock and continue on that they've fallen into the Lost Woods and are fucked. This makes dramatic sense for multiple reasons. It's the last point in the film when they're "officially" on schedule with the the stuff they actually set out to shoot, they just walked away from the last two guys, the two fishermen, who were the last outpost of civilization. If they had doubled back from that point they might have lived (it's implied that the two fisherman hicks might be the guys/hicks fucking with them). Third, Coffin Rock itself is depicted as the site of a historically known savage killing, where a bunch of people were mysteriously disemboweled and their corpses were found bound together hand-to-foot. They are in a place of extreme evil, where the Witch is at her most powerful (another legend tells of a giant claw or hand that dragged a child into the creek, in the same area), and they're not taking it seriously. No reason why the witch can't do more bewitching on the same spot. Fourth, it's pretty much immediately after Coffin Rock that they start questioning Heather's ability to navigate. Fifth, it just makes dramatic sense for the central problem to start about 25-30% of the way in, which is where we are at that point. Everything points to the hiking just after Coffin Rock as the point where they're screwed and don't fully realize it yet.

>>205069174
the tape was mailed to a random person who gave the tape to police and then they made it a movie.
that random person?
albert einstein.
>>
>>205069174
>>205069355
Their cameras and footage were found by a search team buried in the foundation of the Rustin Parr house where the basement once was.
>>
>>205069174

Something something archaeology students found it, or something. The backstory and aftermath for all this was fully developed as part of production. They did a TV tie-in faux-documentary about the faux-documentary, and they put out a companion book (D.A. Stern) purporting to compile police reports, historical records etc relating to the "case" (the front of the book again has a small, but clear "this is fiction" disclaimer, I just picked it up again).

I think the people who found it also claimed that it was buried in such a way that it could not possibly have been put where it was by a person.

Gotta let someone live to tell the tale.

>>205069233

For the same reason that lots of stupid stuff and other contrived things happen in every story: if you don't contrive things in a certain way, then we don't have a movie/story.

The hype for this movie was huge mainly because everybody believed it was real. My mom didn't really want me to see it because she thought it might be too realistic but my dad took me and my friend anyway.
>>
Anon solved it
>You have to approach it logically. First we must ascertain the situation. Take a knife and start walking towards south. You can see this from the bright spot in the sky and the moss growing on the trees. Head south as straight as possible and mark the trees with a number. Have everyone follow another with 30m space. The one leading walks backwards so everyone has visual confirmation of each other. Eventually you get to a road.
What if were teleported? Then we would find where the edge of the "bubble" is by seeing the frontman suddenly disappear and see the last number on the tree which would indicate the (r) of the circle. Now we throw a stone through, see if it obeys the same laws. We dig under the invisible "wall" and try crawling under. We hold each others hands and try to pass through. We climb the tree next to the wall and survey the land.
If none of that works and we're still stuck, the next best option would be to wait on a tree top, gather a bundle of wet pine branches and set it on fire when you notice a plane flying above. The branches let out a ton of smoke. If by some weird happenstance no one could see because the bubble blocks all visual and audio data leaving it, the next best option would be to make yourself comfy, take that knife and slit your wrists, painless and denying the witch its satisfaction.

It's almost as if the whole production design (her STICK GATE at her trailer) and story are contrived in such a way that the viewer is able to wonder what really happened.

Even though the film is a naked ripoff, point-for-point, of all of the fundamentals of Cannibal Holocaust, I still have a soft spot for it.
>>
>>205078065
The only thing in common is the basic lost footage trope. CH was a movie about seemingly innocent people who were revealed as the actual villains all along. Totally different in every regard. It is actually really deep for what it is.
>>
nobody back then thought this movie was "real" so it would be great if you faggots would quit repeating that ridiculous lie

the thing about people getting sick from watching it is true though, but it was motion sickness from the shaky hand held cameras, not because it was that fucking scary, cause it wasn't
>>
>>205079549
I'm old enough to remember it coming out. Yes, people thought it was real. Not everyone, obviously. What revisionist history is this?
>>
>>205068985
>no dino safari movie catching herbivores and shooting raptors
>>
>>205078968

No, the only thing in common is NOT the "basic found footage trope"/genre, as you have falsely claimed. The Blair Witch Project and Cannibal Holocaust are structurally and thematically similar on multiple registers which, once you are are aware of them, are obvious. And these two particular films are much more closely tied together than other instances of the found footage genre, as we will show. The fundamental story is the same in both cases, and the medium and manner of presentation also happen to be the same. A group of asshole young adult doco filmmakers, spurred on by a foolish leader, go into the woods. They fuck around and find out. Their footage is found in the woods/jungle, and their story is told.

A little reflection, attributed to one "Chas Balun" (which might be a pseudonym), was printed as part of an insert in a Cannibal Holocaust DVD. An excerpt reads as follows: "This 'Found Footage' plot device was subsequently exploited by others, including the incompetent, know-nothing, slacker-auteurs behing the godawful tripe of The Blair Witch Project (1999). Yet few had the audacity to question who was there decades before-and who do it best."

I happen to like Blair Witch Project, and the review blurb is over-the-top. But the point is that it does correctly compare the two films, whereas you have incorrectly tried to get them apart from each other.

It was the first found footage film, it was marketed as being real, they made whole fictional documentaries about the town and the witch to give it credibility, the movie was filmed 5 years before it was released which you can tell based on how the characters looked, which also gave credibility to it being "found footage", and the fact that it really did look like someone found some shitty ass home movie footage and edited it down. Literally every found footage film after that had special effects and actual supernatural elements.
