Good evening gentlemen. I hope you are enjoying Noirvember. Today, I will be watching Scarlet Street.

>In one of Fritz Lang's finest American films, Edward G. Robinson stars as as a meek cashier who plunges into a whirlpool of lust, larceny and revenge.

I have now caught serious feelings for Joan Bennett. They don't make actresses like they used too.
>>
but will you be watching it... in colour?

I prefer both Scarlet Street and Human Desire to the Renoir's originals La Chienne and La Bete Humaine. La Chienne and Scarlet Street are more or less equal in quality, but I like the cast of the latter more - Simon in La Chienne is strangely sedated. Human Desire is far superior to La Bete, both in construction and in cast, Gloria Grahame, Glenn Ford, Broderick Crawford are excellent as always.

I have committed to the black and white. Both look great.

Watch the Woman in the Window, there's a scene where she wears a sheer night shirt under a very sheer night gown and her boobies are on full display.

B&W has a strong crisp centralized look though on rewatch I love noticing the foregrounding and the pictures-within-pictures.

Look at the way Chris' arm gesture relaxes when he meets the girl at 8:27, it looks almost like he's got a velvet suit on, and her clear raincoat foreshadows something about the studied nature of her character.

Favorite lesser-known or "B" noir pictures?

I never see anyone talk about this one but it's got a great cast and some really memorable side characters. Not quite a true noir imo but who gives a fuck.
>>
Yesterday I watched Sunset Boulevard and Night of the Hunter.

>Deconstructivist cinema is a film analysis technique that reveals the hidden assumptions and motives of a film's narrative. This technique can also be used to create a complex and subtle meaning by pairing opposite concepts and exploring their relationships.
>>
I really like this shitty B noir. Helps if you know about Richard Dix. I promise you won't see the ending coming.

The first "Whistler" picture is not quite as compelling to me but it's worth watching unlike the rest of them. This one got a great Italian poster.
>>
>>205361817
That poster is incredible. I recently started reading pulp novels from the 30s, and one of my favorite things about them is the cover.

Use that image and search the archive I did a dump of all my Italian posters in a thread in the last couple of days. Here's one I didn't post because it's not a noir but holy shit I love this poster.

I dunno what it is but I don't care too much for Robert Ryan. Offhand I can't think of any of his films that I really liked. I'mma go hit up IMDB and see if it jogs my memory about any one in particular.

Fuck yeah "The Racket" is kino. Other than that and The Wild Bunch I apparently have no use for Robert Ryan pictures although I've seen many of them. His other notable noirs all fall into categories that don't really do it for me. Specifically the "returning service man" and "boxing picture" categories.

ON DANGEROUS GROUND is Kino
>>
>>205361305
IMHO Night of the Hunter is Southern Gothic / German Expressionist
>>
>>205363115
You're allowed to like things I don't. I've seen everything. My metric for how much I like something is how often I want to re-watch it. I don't think I've ever re-watched On Dangerous Ground.

nigger please. Also those others are pretty well known. You ever heard of pic related? That's the level of shit I'm talking about. I'm still pissed they gave Wyman top billing. She's the fucking sidekick. Based Jerome Cowan is the lead and he kills it.

Vincent Price and Robert Mitchum in the same kino?

How do you guys watch your ancient kinos? I have an app called Classic Reel on roku and it has a kind of hit and miss catalog but it is only like 4 bucks a month. There are some precodes but pretty slim pickings.

Price totally steals the second half with his giddy bloodlust.

Either you're a fag or you're not. Somebody either has that potential in them always or they don't, in my opinion. Guy was always going to fag out one way or another.

Turns out he was watching the dames a little too close.

the funny thing is, he still watches noir on daily basis based on his diary. idk man maybe there's a pattern here

I watched The Asphalt Jungle last night. I was having trouble deciding what to watch tonight but i think I'll go with Scarlet Street, thanks anons.
