>The movie bombed in theaters and only became a hit on VHS

It was too kino for its time. The raw soul was released unfiltered, which left the normies unprepared.
>>
>>205690662
it wasnt a fairy tale so they hated it. People would have loved it if it were released today. The animation is also very good, some of the best Disney ever produced.
>>
>>205690662
>>205690730
BZZ stop learning history from zoomer YouTube. It was a film greenlit by Jeffrey Katzenberger and released after he was fired only by contractually obligation. It had some positive reviews but without the Disney support machine behind it, it floundered. Audiences who saw it loved it but you'd say it was good to the average Joe, having barely heard about it, that wasn't enough. Not in theaters long, we'll let the VHS make us money, people who heard it was good caught the video, the rest is history.

>>
>>205690662
It didn’t bomb in theaters.
>>205691956
Seriously someone today was saying Scary Movie and whatnot wasn’t popular in theaters because by then everybody had a PS2 to play DVDs. Ridiculous zoomers spreading inaccuracies.
>>
>>205691956
>>205690730
It looked like a soul-less design-by-committee lazy moneymaking exercise. There was no real USP to it. It's hard to really sell it as being a genuinely heartfelt movie with shades of John Hughes.

Also helps that it's a great 90s time capsule (as is the sequel)
>>
>>205692139
It was made by a black man
>>
I actually really like the sequel movie, too. It's not as good as the original, but it has a lot of fun character stuff and the plot is surprisingly entertaining for a direct-to-DVD Disney cartoon.

Both of these movies are completely unlike anything else Disney's animation house ever did.

Yeah, I feel like they're very horny movies. Like, the sex oozes from virtually every scene

The director wasn’t black but I don’t know about the screen writers. The movie feels like a “black person” movie though.

The second movie is spoilt by a bit of a weak finale that went a bit too cartoonish and it ended just a bit too abruptly. It's got weirdness like setting up a love triangle with the beatnik girl only to just instantly resolve it and give Paulie shore nothing to do for the rest of the movie.

You need a balance of both. Yes, a son should love his father (and vice versa, obviously), but he should also always be looking up to him as a reliable, knowledgable leader. Parents that are too "friendly" with their children cause just as much as ones that are too strict.
>>
>>205690662
Don’t blame me, I saw it in theatre.
>>
>>205693079
I was a kid when this was released, I should have been the target audience for it and even back then it seemed a piece of overproduced corporate slow.

It was marketed heavily here. Every fucking ad break featured the TV spot with the weirdly cut 'listen to each other's heart' line from Eye 2 eye at the end.

Most people were like this at one point. They were a moody teenager that just wanted to spend time with their friends and some girl. They wanted nothing to do with their parents, maybe even said some mean things. Then you get older and realize you probably really hurt your parents' feelings, but they just took it to not upset you.

Why do parents do stuff like this? Do they not realize that most teenagers don't like dorking around with mom and dad, and that guilting them about it will form mutual resentment that lasts a lifetime?

Were teenage family road trips a big thing during boomers' formative years or something?
>>
>>205696094

>>
>>205696094
from what i've heard from my dad, he fucking HATED doing road trips with his dad/mom (my grandma/grandpa) yet he still dragged us along in a vain attempt to "do it better". guess what? it fucking SUCKED. it was literally A Goofy Movie but worse. stupid bastard.
>>
>>205696722
For the summers in elementary school it kinda makes sense because a lot of kids don't have anything better to do, but anything past 5th-6th grade and spending hundreds (thousands today) on long road trips just doesn't make sense unless you can get your kid pumped about it, and they're not going to be primarily because you'll be with them. My parents must've spent $300 every summer just to make me hate them.
>>
>>205696094
Maybe I'm not most teenagers. I loved this shit with my parents. Hitting cheap, shitty diners on the back roads, staring out the window at the Appalachian mountains or the sea coast, or endless forests since I grew up in the midwest where its nothing but corn and potatoes so it was all new and exciting. Reading books before bed in a stanky motel. Taking pictures of things I don't see every day. Drinking soda and eating chips while cruising on the highway, taking naps with a cool wind blowing in my face during the boring stretches. I loved road trips with my parents and I'd love to do em again now that Im older and inside most of the day.

If PJ weren't a fatass it would be Pete. The real question is how does Pete have so much more money when he and Goofy have the same job?
>>

The screencap in this post >>205693995 is extremely relatable to me because I remember a time when my dad wanted to take me out to a college football game. I didn't really care about it, and thinking back on it I didn't really have any interest in going at all. But I went anyways because I knew he was excited for it. The kicker is the game was canceled and postponed to a later date. I don't even know why. So it just ended up being a 3-4 hour car ride with just me and him.
>>
>>205694671
this. for years, i wondered if there was something wrong with ME, because i never respected my father. it wasn't until my early 30s that i realized i didn't like him because he's a coward and a hypocrite. there's a difference between "like" and "love". i love my dad; but i do not like him.

Mickey is a mascot and has never been that relatable. He exists solely like Pikachu. Because he's cute and lovable. He also benefits from being the first of Walt's designs to be successful.
Goofy has always been more endearing and relatable.

Well first off Pete's son doesn't respect him, he's just scared of him. Love and respect go hand in hand. Also having a child that loves you doesn't mean you're their best friend, in fact they are probably more empowered to be active with their own peers if they have loving, stable parents at home

we were in the worst time to get stuck in the car on vacations
pre-80s, there was nothing fun to do anywhere, so you weren't missing out by being stuck in the car. maybe where you were going was more fun than home.
then video games and VHS were in everybody's house, so there is no place you can take a kid that's better than his own living room.
now every kid has a smartphone, so any place you put him is equally as good as anywhere else. he's just gonna look at his phone anyway.
>>
>>205696094

Some do, some don’t. Goofy loved his time with his father, and wanted to share that with Max. He does end up doing that eventually. The story is a relatable coming of age plot, most men that had a positive relationship with their father can relate to the movie and see where their dad was revealed to just be a guy trying to give his son the same joy he experienced to make sure he grows up well. Very few people grow to have real resentment for their father because they are trying to bond with them, they get annoyed but any youngster experiences these kinds of emotions

Pikachu has more relevancy than Mickey Mouse. Pikachu regularly gets it's own shorts to promote it's personality and market its cuteness. Mickey doesn't get shit but the odd cameo. He gets to ride the wave as the de-facto #1 mascot of a dying company that can do nothing to actually generate sales for it despite being the top-billed attraction. Epic Mickey sucked peepee. Also holy shit hwy am I getting a fucking 800-second timer just to post? I'm not verifying an e-mail address. Suck my fucking dick.

Congrats, anon, you are a well-adjusted person with loving parents. I had no problems as a kid spending time with family. We would go to my maternal grandparents' house almost every Sunday when I was growing up for dinner and I would hang out until I inevitably asked to go into my aunt's room to play a video game that I had brought over. As I got older though, the less video games I brought over and just enjoyed spending time with my grandparents, aunts and uncles and of course my own parents often playing cards or a board game after dinner. Now that both of my grandparents are gone, I miss it terribly even though at the time I thought going over to Grandma and Grandpa's place was boring and just interrupted my gaming time. My parents are awesome and really the only major mistake they ever made was getting me circumcised, but I've privately forgiven them under the circumstances. I truly pity people who had shitty childhoods with bad parents.
