I get that Stephen King had the right to be upset over the adaptation of Lawnmower Man; New Line did buy the rights to his short story after all and attached some completely unrelated script to it. But I'm also glad that it happened because its such a entertaining film.

Why did this series just stop caring about the found footage aspect? None of the characters or filming feels authentic in the least.
>>
>>205929894
so fucking boring
>>
>>205940784
"Character authenticity" is a bit of a contradiction in FF. The premise of Found Footage is that people are filming themselves. When people turn a camera on and point it at themselves they automatically go into a performance mode, which is by definition not authentic.
>>
>>205940990
how old are you
>>
>>205941001
I'm more talking about the police procedural in the beginning. None of the characters feel real and everything in that segment just felt really silly. Also most of the camera angels you see doesn't even make sense. Why is there a pov shot coming from the chainsaw even if there was no camera there? This is prevalent in most of the segments and it feels as if the series just doesn't care about the found footage aspect anymore.
>>
>>205941001
That's not the case for all FF movies. TBWP, The McPherson Tape, The Collingswood Story, etc. come off more genuine.

V/H/S/Beyond and It Follows strike the same chord. It's the same lubricious madness, bathing in blood, the Universe seeping in and not necessarily making sense. It takes on the form of the divine feminine, possibly with implications that the Universe itself is a woman in a Spinozian pantheist sense and that The Entity is her avatar, out of place in our Apollonian patriarchal world. In the case of It Follows, it was pure “scratch the Universe and who knows what the fuck will come out”.
For tasteless /hor/tards that prefer the original, V/H/S/Beyond just looks like a bunch of robot Indian women (gay) dancing to a soundtrack that isn't black metal, and that's as deeply as they engage with it. Shocking that these Cheeto-y chuds don't get it; as years go by, it will be re-evaluated as one of the best horror films in cinema history, while the themes I've mentioned will be explored further in books and scholarly journals.
>>
>>205939068
Is that a remake of Altman's 3 Women?
>>
I watched Subspecies a few days ago. Do I proceed with the rest of the three movies in the series? How do they compare to the first?
>>
>>205941449
Completely valid points. The police one that the movie started out with had the worst characters and believability out of all of them. NYPD wouldn't be sending in a crew of beat cops to raid a house and those beat cops wouldn't have the munitions they had (unless I'm misremembering, I believe they had fully automatic weapons.) Nor would those beat cops have the heart or athleticism that was displayed.

>>205941584
True, I was speaking generally. Some are just terrible. And even portraying the performative aspect of filming yourself has varying degrees of authenticity. And then you have surveillance camera footage FF where that performative aspect should not be present.

It's pretty rare for FF not to have it really. Normally the characters who are exempt are the film crew and even then a lot of their reaction to being in shot is oh shit sorry for the retake. Most everyone where they're getting vox pop has too much of it, because leaving the deer in the headlights on the screen for five seconds in an edited piece is generally shit film students know is dumb. A lot of edited for brevity title cards are covering that extra few stares which are an easy immersion tool.

>NYPD wouldn't be sending in a crew of beat cops to raid a house and those beat cops wouldn't have the munitions they had (unless I'm misremembering, I believe they had fully automatic weapons.) Nor would those beat cops have the heart or athleticism that was displayed.
From my understanding it was cops hunting monsters off duty using seized weapons and they're only recruiting the best guys to join the gang.

Your opinion on the 2010 Wolfman varies by which version you watch.
Theatrical version is alright but you can see where stuff was cut and it doesn't feel complete whereas the uncut version feels much more complete and the easily better film.

Rewatching "Forever Knight", Season 1 was absolutely Kino, but Season 2 just sucks, I manage to make it through 2x1 but the diversity hire girl boss is vomit inducing, so obviously a casting couch choice, a police chief that's younger than the detectives! If the director /producer wanted to stick his long time hoe in the series he could have simply made her a computer tech or something, it was the 90s, and we were still getting a lot of electronics stuff from Japan, "Amanda Cohen" was played by a non-actor so they could have hired a real techie or a factory girl for the part., but then someone with a real day job might not put out.

While the inorganic diversity hires was jarring, there were other stupid stuff too, LaCroix should never have been resurrected, other than that making no sense, he was more impactful as a powerful character in flashbacks and in Nick's fevered dreams. Oh, and there was a black woman working with Natalie that was actually a good character that fit organically within the series, but they dropped her because they dropped the writer who would still have to be paid every time their created character was used.

>Forever Knight is a Canadian television series about Nick Knight, an 800-year-old vampire working as a police detective in modern-day Toronto, Ontario. Wracked with guilt for centuries of killing others, he seeks redemption by working as a homicide detective on the night shift while struggling to find a way to become human again. The series premiered on May 5, 1992, and concluded with the third-season finale on May 17, 1996.

Season 1 of "Forever Knight" was so good it was such a shame they subsequently dropped the ball so badly. The original story was set in LA and then they made the decision to not only film in Toronto but set it in Toronto too, which I think made it a better story, not just because I've always disliked "Californian Doubling", but Toronto would just be a better city for vampires than LA, we have so many tunnels here and the sun sets at five during winter. Season 1 have a lot of street scenes, Nick driving past, and overhead scenes, Toronto the city was very present in the pilot -- that went out the window in 2x1...doesn't seem to be around in 2x16, I remember the homeless people being burnt episode from TV, rewatching it though, the sets look so fake especially compared to Season 1, I think a lot more stuff got moved to sound stage, at one point they name dropped Yonge and Bloor but the surrounding was probably Distillery District (factories near Harbour Front ish) where many sound studios were.

I'm going to hold my nose and try and get through Season 2 maybe to see if the PATH underground malls shows up, or not, because Season 2 is really bad, the special effects vampire fights were stupid. Janette doesn't act like Janette, so much I didn't recognize her when she came to visit Nick in 2x1.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Path_(Toronto)
>>
Elvira is a witch, right? Just wanted to confirm.
>>
>>205975862
Season 1 of Forever Knight was very low fantasy, it was basically a police procedural show set in Toronto, where one of the cops happened to be a guy who only works night shift because he's a vampire. The FK vampires are more magical than the ones in Buffy/Angel, because they can fly, but they also blend in a lot more, sunlight will burn them but they do have heartbeats, slow ones, so they aren't corpses. Nick also slowly acquire human traits when he abstain from drinking blood and eating human food instead in Season 1, with practice he could hold a cross. I really like the Police Procedural of Season 1 and they threw it out with 2x1, the personal drama.

my fellow w/hor/es

i have recently watched the original suspiria for the first time.

frankly, it sucked. great cast, coloring, mood and music, but the plot really fucking dragged and then suddenly the movie is over. the remake is far better in terms of pacing and uses its runtime better too.

also finally watched jacob's ladder after years of hearing how kino it is. sure enough, it was kino as fuck, and that's a given since it inspired the silent hill games.

and finally i also gave phantom of the paradise a proper go. holy shit what a film, and it's so severely underrated while being influential as fuck. the phantom is obviously griffith but he's also darth vader and the film is tonally rocky horror, and it was made prior to all three. shame how brian de palma really flopped after the 80s.

what can i say, this board ruined the hype for me. i saw the remake in theaters not knowing shit about the original and loved it, then i heard from this gen how the remake was hardly a remake (despite it being pretty on the nose as far as remakes go) and like a whole lot of nothing happened. some bitches die and then suddenly exposition about witches, more dead bitches and then witches confirmed and it all ends in a matter of like 8 minutes tops. i dislike films that spend the majority of a 90 minute runtime doing fuck all, only to wrap the story up in the last ten minutes. i'm hoping the next two films in the trilogy are better, i know argento is good and i still think overall the film is decent and i can see why you faggots love it besides contrarian gialloposting.

So, in other words, the movie was actually great. You are wrong in saying the remake uses its runtime better, if anything it drags way more and 'insists upon itself' as the kids say. I can accept a difference of opinion if it makes any sense, too bad.

cope faggot, all the best films (including horror) have great plots that keep the viewer interested from start to finish and when they go home and think about it again, it becomes even better because of proper story structure being used. even your average slasher still has better plot structure than suspiria.

no the retards that hype up giallo as being some supreme form of horror when giallo has nothing to do with horror because giallo means yellow, and in the 30s and 40s comic book/newspaper strip detectives wore yellow (dick tracy). giallo is traditionally a suspense/thriller, not a horror. that's what i mean by contrarian gialloposting, the ones that you can tell are full of themselves.
>>205977834

>>

>>
>>205978013

>>
>>205978013
The difference is that giallo movies have graphic onscreen deaths, meant to frighten the audience, where you spend time with the killer as he mutilates his victims. Se7en is just a murder mystery where everyone dies offscreen and you only ever follow the cops, not the killer or the victims.
Se7en clearly isn't intending to scare in the way that giallo movies are, which is why it doesn't get labeled as horror.
>>
>>205977948
i was baiting about dick tracy because i forgot it was that the old paperbacks had yellow on them, but it is true that giallo started as detective shit, then horror elements found their way in.

I'm okay with this. I think horror is a really flexible term that can cover a LOT of ground.
It can mean straight up scaring you, or refer to the general atmosphere, or maybe just invoking a really uneasy feeling.
Suspense and horror are like peanut butter and chocolate, they just naturally go together so well that sometimes its hard to tell when one stops and the other begins.
>>
>>205978124
The movies are called "giallo" because Italian pulp books had yellow covers. It wasn't just "detective" stuff, it was all sorts of thriller and horror. Classic horror stories from other countries were printed in Italy as giallo books.
Giallo, the film genre, has elements of both horror and thriller because of this. The famous giallo directors, like Argento and Bava, leaned strongly into horror and ended up creating slashers.

Suspiria 2018 and The Shining strike the same chord. It's the same lubricious madness, bathing in blood, the Universe seeping in and not necessarily making sense. It takes on the form of the divine feminine, possibly with implications that the Universe itself is a woman in a Spinozian pantheist sense and that the witches are her avatars, out of place in our Apollonian patriarchal world. In the case of The Shining, it was pure “scratch the Universe and who knows what the fuck will come out”.
For tasteless /hor/tards that prefer the original, Suspiria 2018 just looks like a bunch of women (gay) dancing to a soundtrack that isn't black metal, and that's as deeply as they engage with it. Shocking that these Cheeto-y chuds don't get it; as years go by, it will be re-evaluated as one of the best horror films in cinema history, while the themes I've mentioned will be explored further in books and scholarly journals.

Pretty okay-ish found footage movie.
Kind of a slow burn, with one of those "Oh shit lmao" endings that was kinda neat.

a strong ending does a lot to cement positive feelings about a film in your mind. that one is case in point.

This made good use of a tiny budget, the back and forth between the Bri'ish cinematographer and the middle aged deacon was charming and then the ending despite probably costing 10 bucks to produce was quite harrowing.

I bought season 1 a few years ago when I saw it for sale. Having watched it as a kid on USA. It wasn't very good. Hard to slug through. I remembered it being better than it was. Watched I think 7 or 8 episodes and just gave up.
