You know what the worst part about DS9 is? If you watch enough of it, you begin to like it.

DS9 is carried by the writing and the performances of the cast. The best supporting cast of any Star Trek show in terms of actor performance I'd say, even the shittiest characters like Dax and Bashir have thinks to like about them.

That's like 90% of a tv show.

I also appreciate it for having a coherent, overarching plot (once you get to season 3 or so)
A shame about the eventual character assassination of Dukat by weaselly kikes who didn't like that we appreciated his character

DS9 was the most enjoyable series in Star Trek but it lacked the Star Trek spirit.

DS9 is a bad show.
It had half of TNGs air time to learn from their mistakes.
Then Voyager came
Yet, DS9 had the same boring, shitty, contrived episodes as TNG and VOY.
How do you keep making the same mistakes over and over again?
They did finally learn with Enterprise, which compared to the rest, had no bad episodes.

I love DS9. it remains the only Trek show I've watched the whole way through. no shade to the other series, I was just never compelled to sit down and watch them besides catching some reruns on cable. and I know some sweaty Trek nerd will hate me for that or use it to say "see! DS9 is only liked by people who hate Trek!" and I honestly just don't give a fuck. frankly I'm glad I'm not burdened by having to compare it to other shows and can just appreciate it for what it is. maybe I'll watch more Trek one day but some of the attitudes you superfans have put me off.

The Nygeans are supposed to be the proxy "whites" in this story though.

HOWEVER, the reason Neelix is looking it up is because one of those Benkaran's is telling Neelix that he's been locked-up for not doing anything deserving of his sentence and the Nygeans just have it out his people....only for the episode to end with the reveal he totally did the crime and was just manipulating Neelix as part of his plan escape prision which gets people killed in the process.

It's wild how, at the time, it seemed like they were telling fairly simplistic morality plays, but even then they would sometimes try to make fairly difficult points.

They even gave Ferengi and Klingons a fair hearing, in terms of showing how someone could be part of their culture and still do their best to be a good person, without ever saying they should just give it all up and become Federationers.

These days the same kind of shows do a lot of complex characterization and plotting to make very straightforward and easy points.

It’s the lighting and staging that make those shows such a pleasure to watch. Even the way the actors deliver their lines. I don’t even know if they can recreate that atmosphere with modern equipment. Probably not. So in a way TNG/DS9 are a window into a lost era.

Unfortunately, faggots these days find characters like Dax, Troy and Kiera over sexualised, and banter and talk about sex, when directed towards or about a woman, is a big no-no.
There will be no recreating the playful atmosphere, no harmless flirting, no sexy female Orians in skimpy outfits or alien strip clubs. No trek fucking sucks.

How did O'Brien go from a command division lieutenant to an operations division enlisted man? What did he do to not only get demoted but to not even be an officer anymore? Ro Laren tried to girl boss it and got eight people killed, and even she got to stay an Ensign.

>>
Battlestar Galactica was kind of a retread of old Trek scripts and ideas that RDM had. The skin job cylons are just changelings again, they basically remade Paradise Lost, the uniforms are just blue Wrath of Khan uniforms, the opera house is the worm hole aliens again, the whole idea is Voyager, etc.

How did Section 31 build and maintain an entire fleet of varying starship classes of their own design if they aren't backed by Starfleet? Someone had to design the ship, an entire shipyard with tens of thousands of people would need to build them, someone has to manufacture and store and distribute spare parts, someone has to train thousands of crewmen, etc.

I've heard a lot of people claim DS9 is the best, but gotta be honest, the whole static setting appealed less to me, and most of all, I find ferengis really ugly physically and character-wise. Like I don't want to watch a show featuring one so much

The entire Derna plot was stupid. The Romulans put plasma torpedoes on the moon to defend their hospital, the Bajorans become frightened this will be used to blackmail Bajor into Romulan control later, so fearing the Romulan military they...antagonize the Romulan military and threaten to fire on a group of warbirds, any one of which would flatten the entire militia. What was the endgame?

It doesn't even make sense for the Romulans, who probably were just trying to defend their hospital. One of those episodes that can only exist if everyone inhales retard gas.

It's an allegory for the Cuban missile crisis
>>
>>205960260
But a really stupid one. Missiles in Cuba made sense for Cuba and Russia, and wanting them out made sense for America. Plasma torpedoes on Derna only make sense for Romulus in an actually defensive capacity (and Bajor already leased the moon to them in the first place), the paranoia on Bajor's part is irrational, and the military response in a bunch of glorified runabouts was even more irrational. Probably the most irrational thing was Ross acting like he'd lose the war on principle instead of just beaming Nerys back to my dungeon when later he's engaged in all sorts of murder and intrigue just to stop that from happening. Whole thing is gay.
>>
>>205960383
It's a weekly syndicated TV show on a shoestring budget meant to be watched by people who weren't alive during the missile crisis. You're putting more thought into this than you should. The main competitors for DS9 were like, Xena and The New Adventures of Zorro. We aren't talking Solzhenitzin here.
>>
>>205959571
You should consider the fact I deciphered your gibberish in kind when I tell you your entire perception is wrong. To presume William, is not an altogether cunt, is foolishness. He has the makings of a cunt. A real one. Of course he is. And of course you are. Of course you don’t know. It was nice to see Bezos, another real cunt, take him up and set him down. That was real and it didn’t matter what he thought that day. I pretty much can only stand TOS but it’s a story and I’d like it as much with different actors on a stage or even on ice

were zoomers alive in the early 90s?
btw, zorro had a lot of overlap with Star Trek. Don Diego was Shakaar and the candle ghost from Sub Rosa. His dad was Chakotay's acoochimoya dad. The second antagonist was played by Martok's actor. I remember watching DS9 first run but at the time I was digging on Zorro more.
>>
>>205961847
>were zoomers alive in the early 90s?
No, which is why discussion of Trek and sci fi/fantasy in general were dominated by people who were able to model the world and discuss it in those terms. Now that the zoomers are alive, discussion is dominated by "it's just a show", and "because that's what the script said lol" and other zoomerisms. The tone has changed for the worse over time.

"Repeat to yourself, it's just a show, I should really just relax" is part of the MST3K theme and that also predates zoomers. Maybe you're just investing too much of yourself into this. Have you tried having a personality outside of nitpicking Star Trek?

Yes, zoomers didn't invent being a bore, they just made it commonplace. It's an utter lack of imagination that used to be rare, particularly among the sort of people who discussed sci-fi and fantasy online, and now it's just meme poisoned mentally sterilized pseudo-people clogging up the internet. It eventually leaks behind the camera and you get shows written for that audience, filled with snarky redditor archetypes.

Oh dude I finally realized who you remind me of. It's this guy. I've seen the exact same message cut and pasted everywhere, like every /soc/ thread, /b/, whatever. It's this haughty, combative style whose bravado and hyperbolic assertions mask a resignation that failure and rejection is coming. As with his message, it's more bellyaching about what isn't than improving what is. This isn't Star Trek discussion. It's just an attempt to start some sort of beef between generations or cultures or whatever. Let this dude be a cautionary tale for you. I've seen this exact same message across threads and boards for years. He clearly hasn't found what he's demanding but not making any effort to earn. So it is about you and earnest Star Trek discussion. Quit being a twat, jackhammer that chip off your shoulder and come back when you're ready to actually discuss star trek.

It has the highest level of consistent acting of any Star Trek show, even though you could say it has one of the weakest captains in terms of acting. Kira, O'Brien, Quark, Odo, Garak, Dukat, even other supporting guys like the Nagus, Martok, fucking Weyoun/Brunt, Damar, Kai Wynn, Salome Jens. The show is absolutely loaded with excellent supporting acting, all re-occurring characters.

What Trek show has more quality acting out of recurring characters than DS9?

To me there are 3 Star Trek eras:
>The 60s show, 70s animated series and the movies 79-91
The classic era of the show, some of it is a little dated but introduced everything.
>TNG including the movies and all the spin-off shows like DS9 and VOY up to ENT.
The best era of the show, still holds up today.
>NuTrek starting with the JJ Abrams movies.
