>>206050983>>Question of the DayKino, absolute kino>What do you feel is the greatest decade for Japanese cinema, and WHY?It HAS to be the 1950s or 1960s. Kurosawa, Ozu, Kobayashi all at their peaks. If you could pick any ten years I'd say 1952-1962. Ikiru thru Yojimbo, Harakiri, Tokyo Story (which is good despite what anons say) and that other Ozu film

>>206050983>What do you feel is the greatest decade for Japanese cinema, and WHY?'50s. Throne of Blood is the single greatest work to come out of Japan, and it's one of the best films to have ever graced humanity
So, for podcast anons, we should start deliberating about the way it's gonna be made:>How long it should be?>Which way should we contact each other>Which themes should be talked about>>206050983I've little knowledge of japanese kino; older decades seem to be higher quality, but I've personally enjoyed the 90s and 00s more than older decades, with the exception of Kurosawa-sama's work
>>206051644it was mid, the bitch was too ugly to look at for that long and it turned me off from the movie, I didn't even finish it
>>206051695Forgot the WHY>Because of the aesthetics of 90s films such as Cure, Ringu, Audition, etc., and the same for early 00s films like Suicide Club, Pulse...It's a dark aesthetic consumed by the sorrow of modern japanese lifestyles, very kino
>>206051695>How long it should be?17 minutes>Which way should we contact each other?proton mail Which themes should be talked about?we should talk about one movie that was agreed upon beforehand and give it a rating out of 5 stars>what should we drink?A lot

Also need a segment of /film/podcast roasting posters with shit taste, like ChewyKablooey and anon who thinks 1930s is boring
>>206053872I'd prefer a "2 hot takes segment" where anons send their secret hot takes / guilty pleasures and we "evaluate them"
Or a cringe segment, where we talk about how cringe the things people say on this general are, like "let's make a podcast"

>>206054926Sloppily constructed and so illogical that it must surely be a joke, even though it lacks wit. Half-spoofing the fairy-tale genre, The Princess Bride is full of trite showbizzy anachronisms that don’t require innocent audience belief but inspire snark. The film isn’t harmless just because its fairy tale avoids relevant moral challenge; it falsifies life’s challenges. What’s unacceptable about this threadbare fantasy is its contemporary irrelevance. Reiner and Goldman betray the instructional tradition that fables and legends pass on. Instead, there’s a coincidental giveaway — a political warning when Elwes explains his black-mask disguise: “I think they’re terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future.” It fits liberal Hollywood’s support of Covid obedience masks all too well.

Wanted to make sure everyone knows: cinema only matters if it’s being projected in imax 3D or an art gallery wall. None of your farthouse berlinale memes are even worth consideration, and will be rightfully forgotten in 50 years. You can all pretend hou hsiao hsien or Nicolas winding refn matter, but that’s simply not true. You engage with pure midwit trash. It’s Michael Bay or Matthew Barney for me, a film enthusiast.

Is there a good Bergman under 90 minutes? I feel like soaking up some of his more cerebral stuff but I have a strict night of films ahead and don't have time for one of the epics
>>206062104You're in for a YTS rip.No, but in all seriousness: super interesting film, super cool villain. Amazing aesthetics and symbolism. Also have to mention that the movie is a critique of japanese conformism.
>>206056025There's no point, read books and everything you can, it will become easier for you to write reviews once you have more influence
>>206062613Most of his kino I've watched is under 90 minutes, I even think Persona was like that.

>>206064332Any old AV receiver will be able to handle audio/video for any TV, game system, BluRay/CD player. Some have bluetooth but you can easily add that on just with another little device. You attach your speakers to the AVR to play sound for everything. If you're relatively tech-savvy it's not too hard to figure it all out, but put in work and at least attempt to do it properly. Watched Cross of Iron. It was a good watch. First Peckinpah film, gonna try The Wild Bunch next. The visuals and set pieces were amazing. One shot for a couple seconds of a dead German face down in a pond bleeding will stick with me for a bit I bet, and there are a lot of memorable shots and scenes like that. Seeing all that old hardware in action, from MP40s and MG42s to T-34-85s was great, and it's all used really well. The movie doesn't stray into anti-war melodrama like most modern war movies do, so that's a nice change of pace. It's done with nuance, from a sort of commoner/enlisted experience, against an aristocratic/officer experience. The most powerful scene in the movie is where Steiner is at the hospital and a general shows up. It has that 1970s jank but if you cut it some slack and fill in the blanks it's amazing.More hit and miss are the performances. It's a war movie and the actors still have that 50s/60s approach that comes off sorta flat or unrealistic in parts. This sort of bleeds into the plot too. Steiner and his boys come across a unit of Russian women combatants, and apparently don't kill them all after they murder one of Steiner's men. In a movie that otherwise portrays violence and war relatively realistically, this is extremely out of place. The ending too, while fitting, was executed sort of poorly imoWatch it for the hot Russian girl in the bathtub too
