And he went through an essentially action stunt school as a kid along with other stars of the era. And even then he still got constantly injured in his films. This culture is lost to us in many ways, even in poorer countries the stars no longer do stuff like this.

Outside of Shaw Bros and Golden Harvest, a lot of 70s/80s HK action movies were more about the plot than the stunts.
