It’s been years since I’ve seen the musical but why does the wizard want to cage animals in the first place? They mention the great drought yeah but Oz seems to be fine now so the persecution from the wizard seems random and unmotivated besides having a “common enemy” which still isn’t satisfying because Oz seems to be in perfect harmony as is.

I've seen Wicked live twice and I gotta say this actually seems like a pretty decent adaptation. It's a shame they are splitting it into 2 parts (and even more jewish that they are very explicitly not advertising this) but at least they won't have a reason to cut anything.
