What if the good witch in the wizard of Oz is the real villain and she only used Dorothy for her own gain, Dorothy only followed orders thorough the movie
I think Coraline, just like Dorothy, is some kind of philosopher stone that is used in order to bring two things together, the real world and the fantasy world
Most modern movies follow this pattern: Alice in wonderland, Matrix, Neverending Story, etc
