Shut up OP!
>>
Your threadly reminder that Star Trek is optimistic, hopeful, and utopian, therefore seething about other people's opinions, and pretending your subjective tastes are objective, is completely counter to the spirit of Trek, and implies you're not really a fan.

I listened to the Mission Log: A Roddenberry Star Trek Podcast TM episode where Wil came on and talked about his time on TNG. I felt bad for him. He was talking about how he wonders if his life could have turned out different if he hadn't left the show or hadn't been cucked out of film roles by Berman. They read an archive letter to Gene from Patrick where he said that he said Wil was a really splendid young man and loved working with him and you could hear the pain in Wil's response because that was lightyears away from where he is now.
>>

Star Trek pretends to be this.
It’s basically the same as bicyclists pretending to be good humans and good people, when in reality, bicyclists are assholes, using an inefficient means of transport, while requiring special lanes, and special rules, and whining any time someone gets in their way, or a bicyclist gets hit by a vehicle, even while ignoring traffic laws, and running STOP signs and red lights.
The average person in the USA walks a further distance per day, than the average bicyclist in the Netherlands rides per day, and yet bicyclists want the USA to adopt bicycle infrastructure from the Netherlands.

>He was talking about how he wonders if his life could have turned out different if he hadn't left the show or hadn't been cucked out of film roles by Berman.
He has been able to largely coast through life based on a role he had when young. He is deluded if he thinks he was ever going to have a great career as an act. That was his big break, and without that he would in all likelihood either have retired from acting completely at some point in adulthood or who be a the sort of same D-list TV actor just not associated with any role. It is like how their of numerous actors/actresses that complain about how X TV role ruined their career when X TV role is what made their career and without it they would not be known at all and from it they go several years of network TV pay and royalties from it. The industry is full of people with such egos that even when they do get a good role they think it is beneath them either after it or even during. Just look at Denise Crosby jumping ship thinking she was going to be bigger than what she was. Or George Takei seething that he was not part of the main trio.

You have to think of it like this. Them being on Star Trek was their career moment. This idea that if they were never joined Star Trek they would have had better careers is the flawed thinking on their part. A lot of the people cast a main cast members never had exceptional careers pre-Star Trek, and it is ridiculous for them to think that it was Star Trek that killed their career given they were never megastars to begin with. Star Trek gave them several years of 20-something episodes per year.

it's probably a bias at the time regarding TV to be honest- TV was seen as low-grade slop (and tbf most of it was) and being a 'big star' meant hollywood, until the sopranos upended everything and then movie stars started doing serious TV year later with house of cards
>>

>>
>>214191116
That still speaks about their ego though. The point I am trying to make is they, this is perhaps too strong of an expression, delusions of grandeur. It is the idea that without such TV show they would have had a 'better' career, when they would have just remained some TV performer though one without any notability or steady work, both the salary and whatever royalties come with that. Even in the realms of TV, it is not like like a lot of them were character actors who could cover a range of roles or be renowned guest appearances. The majority would have bene who? performers even in the realm of TV without becoming a main cast member on a Star Trek show.

Litigious fanfic writers, I'm not even kidding. The guy who wrote Gargoyles, Greg Weisman, went into it on his Q&A site - basically enough 'zine types sued for seeing an idea "similar enough" to their shitty AO3-tier fic that the solution was to avoid any sight of amateur fic, and since spec scripts were often shopped around, they just closed the doors to open script submission. Since that door was closed, they went with writers room droids.
