Hilarious that the a military power that almost encompasses the entire species with aesthetics based on Soviet submarines would genetically engineer warship with a brighter bridge than Slop Trek.
>this shitty native american TNG episodeAdmiral Bitcheyev even says they were warned 20 years ago when they chose that planet that it was contestedWhy the fuck would I feel bad for these injuns at all? When people ree like babies whenever Wesley is mentioned I just assume they're newfags who are playing up to some social conception of what a Trek fan acts like, in an attempt to fit in. "Wesley sucks, amirite?" is basically the same as some 14 year old coming onto 4chan for the first time and going, "niggers, amirite?"
>>214198690I would have compared it to Red October but that would have been unfair on the Red October, it's more like Stellan Skarsgard's sub that was going after it.

All Wil had to do was shave the soibeard and slim down a bit and he'd have been a star of PIC season 3.
There is just something so enjoyable about listening to janeways voice. Would you call it mid atlantic? Its strong but smooth and musical.
>>214199098It's basically Patricia Neal's voice from Wish.com.Kate's whole gimmick is basically doing a Patricia Neal impression
>>214198692They explained that in the episode.-----ANTHWARA: You do not understand, Captain. The choice of this world was not only because of environmental conditions. There were other more intangible concerns as well. When I came here twenty years ago, I was welcomed by the mountains, the rivers, the sky. WAKASA: Anthwara, he's laughing at you. He thinks you're talking about old superstition and nonsense.PICARD: This is not true. I have the deepest deal of respect for your beliefs and the meaning that they hold for your people.ANTHWARA: Then you can respect the fact that this planet holds a deep spiritual significance for us. It has taken us two centuries to find this place. We do not want to spend another two hundred years searching for what we already have.-----I'm guessing you've chosen to hate it without even watching it.

there's no plot you can write l I keep this where I will ever take the side of the colonists. if you didn't wanna face any risk stay the fuck on Earth you bunch of fucking retards. the Federation is going to protect and relocate you literally have no grounds to complain.>muh muh adobe buildings>muh muh intangible heritage to this place I've lived for a mere couple decades there's mud on other planets too get fucked
I get the allegory but why does Trek act as if planets are incapable of fitting two groups of people? Earthlike planets are fucking huge
>>214199379Maybe the colonists get sick of treated like some pawn in a chess game you can just order around.
>>214199379Not only that but it undercuts Wesley's entire storyJust put him in Starfleet you retards
>>214199462>voluntarily relocates to a CHESS BOARD>whoaa you're treating me like a pawn over here!

>>214199149nta but even if we assume that the mountains are legit and not just ancient superstition and magical thinking, what stops them from just returning after being evicted? Grab some shuttles and head on over, sure the Cardassians will blow you up as you try to land but there you go, dying in your special lands that satisfy your deep religious beliefs. Clearly this isn't an issue because they were planning to face Cardassians tipping over their beet carts with stoic calm and an acceptance of death. This isn't whitey coming to put pit mines on your land, it's Cardassians coming to put pit mines on your land, and eviction has nothing to do with that. Either the land is important, in which case who cares if you're there or not, you can always get back. Or the land being undisturbed is important, in which case Admiral Cuntasaurus and her oppression squad have nothing to do with it! Because Gul Evek would take whatever data pad the Federation uses to send its "pls no rape the land" message and use it to store his Bajoran occupation porn.Furthermore considering the Traveller, who's predating on Wesley, is gaslighting him into thinking he can talk to the dead with powerful indian magic. Let's not discount the possibility that the Traveller is responsible for a lot of this, and also that he has some god damned responsibilities if he's the one that's sending good vibes through the mountains. I'm not saying the colonists shouldn't have an advocate in the Federation, but they made a choice to settle there for religious reasons and so if they have no plan to deal with the situation in front of them that really is no one else's moral failing. Build underground tunnels, hide in the mountains, start a guerilla war against Cardassia, become Cardassian citizens, find the trinium the Cardassians are lusting over and hand it over to them in exchange for self-governance, summon your mighty war gods to blast the Cardassian space ships out of the sky, and so on and so on...
Also why do the Feds give so many concessions to the Spoonheads anyway? They can easily curbstomp them; Cardies are a third rate empire
don't do it Wesley he's just after your hole
>>214199573Because the Federation is slowly trying to absorb the Cardassian Empire into the Federation like the Borg.
>>214199219I'm a Star Trek fan, not a Star Trek critic. My main reason for liking that show is that Wesley has a crisis of faith regarding Starfleet & it's the last time we see him until the end of STPIC S2.

>>214199128ill have to watch some patricia neals stuff then.
>>214199573Federation had economic troubles and couldn't weather a continued conflict, they chose to cede territory to end the war. Federation doesn't do wars of extermination, they do cucumber sandwiches and cultural exchanges.
>>214199567I have no idea what you're getting at here. The episode resolves the conflict by the colonists choosing to stay & living under the Cardassians, thereby avoiding eviction and being blown up. The rest of your post is head canon.

>>214199667Thought you meant overall throughout TNG\DS9, as seen in 'The Wounded'. This and the first two(?) seasons of DS9 set up why Cardassians are given as much leeway as they are. Federation doesn't want to step on their toes, which later leads into not challenging them over the colonists. Treaty was signed, colonists have to go; non-negotiable.
>>214196665The black with the red and white lights is very fascism coded.
there are 4 lights
when he ended the transmission the Fed logo appeared. how do you explain that?
>>214199780We weren't discussing "throughout TNG/DS9", we were discussing "Journey's End". Stop trying to move the goalposts. And, in case you forgot, the colonists didn't go. What are you even on about?
Damar pull up the Bajoran stats for that.

>>214199691"Economy" is more than money, it's also manufacture and distribution. Dilithium needs mining, machinery needs moving, and replicators need power, to power the replicators you need power plants, and power plants require skilled workers, and skilled workers require food which require settlements. Cardassia had more ships and more lives to gamble.
>>214199691They talk about requiring the necessary energy to replicate stuff. They talk about how they have to mine dilithium to make their space ships function.

>>214199215I CAN'T ACT
why did Bashir think he was allowed to speak?
Is Benny Russell as real as Benjamin Sisko? Is the Sisko actually one being in two bodies or is that not corporeal?
>>214199974The Federation does not have a minimum requirement for member worlds to maintain combat capable ships. Starfleet is not a military, and its ships have no requirement for being combat capable. That's why the Enterprise-D keeps fighting battles despite having a nursery and petting zoo aboard.

I'm back from my 2-day "vacation" for replying to an off-topic post. As if 98% of the posts on this board aren't off-topic. Whatever. I finished Voyager by the way. Wanted to post this related Simpsons image.

>>214200649You are much more optimistic about the average intellectual capacity of posters here than I am.
>>214200476My least favorite ""on-topic"" threads are the ones which are just a veiled excuse to talk about why or why not they're getting laid. Just endless discussion about women not remotely related to the actual plot of 40 Year Old Virgin or 40 Days and 40 Nights or whatever. I dislike them even more than the /pol/ threads disguised as South Park discussion. Anyway sorry for spoiling up the /Trek/ thread where it's at least on topic to discuss whether or not nuTrek is still the correct form of Space Marxism. Carry on. Enjoy the DS9 watchalong
Bashir's acting seems so much better here. Why is his quality all over the place in these early seasons? It really makes it seem like when he's bad, he's just not giving a fuck.
>>214197161>he doesn't know about all the Urusei Yatsura references in TNG

you never do learn what their beef is. in the show anyway
>>214200890Dukat and Garak? You do, though. Garak assassinated Dukat's father after he was disgraced, on orders from the Obsidian Order. Or am I misremembering?
>>214200983that's not in the show it's in A Stitch In Time
>seethes
>>214201006I've never read A Stitch In Time, I remember it being a one-off throwaway line in a normal episode when they're on screen together. I just looked it up>From the episode For the Cause>Dukat: "I should have you executed for what the Obsidian Order did to my father."
>>214201072so did Garak kill him personally because that makes it sound like guilt by association or something. weirdly ambiguous way to phrase it given how much they hate each other. but maybe the writers wanted it to be.
>>214201072>>214201110>>214201006Also more>Ziyal to Garak earlier: "You used to be an agent of the Obsidian Order. That you had my grandfather tortured and killed, and that you could easily kill me without a second thought.”>Garak's reply: “Although I seldom credit the Major or your father with being entirely trustworthy, in this case, they’re both telling the truth.”
>>214201132>Garak just admitting the truth with no pretensehe was down bad
>>214201150That's what 19 year old Bajoran/Cardassian hybrid pussy does to a mother fucker
There was quite a bit from various episodes about Dukat's father and Garak, from Civil Defense>Garak: “Well, you've always been shortsighted. It's held you back over the years. As I recall, your father had the same flaw.”>Dukat: “My father's only flaw was trusting you.”>Garak: “Funny, at his trial your father said his biggest flaw was that his ambition outweighed his patriotism.”That's the line I was thinking of, always thought it was one of the best Garak lines.
>>214201045rewatched this ep recently and i laughed because he's basically an "old good new bad" fag hundreds of years in the future
>>214201273>>Garak: “Funny, at his trial your father said his biggest flaw was that his ambition outweighed his patriotism.”Wait a minute isn't this contradictory? How'd he have a trial if he was tortured and killed?
When will star fleet develop experimental seatbelt technology?
>>214201340I assume he was taken down by the Order, tortured extensively for his confession, they had a show trial to destroy his reputation and you can recall what Cardassian trials are like from the O'Brien trial episode where everyone is presumed guilty from the start, and he was eventually executed.I don't think they're saying Garak did it with his own hands as much as supervised the Order operation to take him down. Garak was basically Tain's right hand man, so he wouldn't be getting his own hands dirty much at this point probably.
>>214201390mmm, makes sense
100 cardassians vs 1 gorilla, who wins
>>214201419Yeah, people really become enamored with Garak's charm but if you really think about the things he's done, he's a monstrous character. Dukat is not at all wrong about him.And sure, you can say who is Dukat to judge but right is right. Being the 2nd man in the Gestappo for like 30 years, god only knows what he really got up to.
It’s been a long road, but I still love Enterprise.
>>214201434gorillas are gentle they aren't killers. a chimp could take 100 Cardies
>>214201474I was never into Garak that way desu. What some people see as charm always was just phony to me and I wasn't into it. I always enjoyed him the most when he was murdering people
>>214196665Would've been kino if Garak murdered the female shapeshifter at the end of the series after she fucking genocided Cardassia.
>>214201554well he got the last Weyoun at least
The Doctor and Seven Show is the only time Voyager is good. Otherwise it’s garbo and I don’t care about any of the characters or anything that’s happening.
>>214201419>>214201419DS9 fucked up the baseball episode by making the opposing team some random Vulacan crew and not Dukat and Weyoun and other Changeling shenannigans.
>>214201554Would have saved so many lives if Worf didn't stop him.
>>214201927Dukat would have been game of course but Weyoun and the Jem'Hadar bodyguards would have never. well...maybe if it was RIGHT at the beginning when they fitst got there and he didn't hate Dukat yet. Dukat playing baseball to suck up to Sisko is a very cute idea though
>>214201498You have seen the Terok Nor episode. They will leave them behind to protect Cardassian assets. What do you think Garak's objective was?
>>214202046>WeyounWeyoun literally drinks a flagon of poisoned Kanar, experiments with cellular rejuvination, and experimental psychological psyops.Let's play some baseball!
>>214202046Weyoun would if he thought he could get some information out of it
this ep is meh but peter weller is a great bad guy. he played a bad guy on that shit show the last ship too and was the highlight
>>214202110yeah that's what I'm saying. at that point he probably would have but as I pointed out before he loses his smile and sense of whimsy pretty quickly having to deal with Dukat's failure and faggotry
>>214202116Yeah the Vorta keep talking about Sisko's psychological profile and understanding how he plays a game under pressure would be interesting.
Sisko is immune to Vorta Acrually can you guys just admit they suck at their supposed God given jobs? They make everyone uncomfortable and uneasy and seem oblivious to it. Forget analyzing Sisko's "psychological profile" when you can't even get a rapport with people in the first place. Maybe Gamma quadrant people are built different or something and their weak shit actually works there idk
>>214202260they aren't really motivated to do their job unless a changeling is breathing down their necks
is this canon?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi2HO5e_oeM
>>214202322Weyoun 5 really did seem motivated but when it came to being a cultural contact or whatever it was embarrassing. Kilana kinda did the same playbook if I remember it's like>hello Stranger I just met I sense you and I are very similar, yes peas in a pod you and I surely we'll be friends.
Just watched maneuvers episode of voyager, Its a pretty good one outside of the last literal 5 seconds when it goes off the rails.Seska impregnating herself with Chakotays dna transfered her from a nuanced villain to a cartoon villain.THe actual scenes between her and Chakotay were actually well done with the emotions and tensions going on in a spy thriller kind of way, but that last bombshell just turned her into a complete psycho.
>>214202260They did make a big deal about Jem' Hdar that were born in either the gamma or alpha quadrant but never make the same distinction for the Vorta if the are cloned in a certain quadrant.

>>214201498>What some people see as charm always was just phony to me and I wasn't into it.Garak’s character is dedicated to the art of deception. We only see his true self in small doses here and there. The “charm” is very openly fishy on purpose. He doesn’t want anyone to trust him or be his friend, he only wants people to call on him when his actual skills (not tailoring) are necessary. Friends are a weakness, after all.

>>214208348The main reason I love and rewatch TNG is just how insanely and overwhelmingly comfy it is, in every regard - the music, the sets, the lighting, the costumes, the pacing, the tone, etc. It feels like a show scientifically designed to make you feel warm, relaxed and positive while also being entertained. I first watched TNG in 2020-21 when I was pretty badly depressed and lonely and while the show didn't cure that it sure as hell made me feel a lot better and more inspired and optimistic in life.
>>214196665I thought this was the Bright Future.
>>214196665ST is even deader than Star Wars, why does this general exist?
If Tasha was into dog sled racing, she would be Musher Yar.
>>214208869I had a similar experience. I started watching it because my new job was stressing me out. It quickly became one of my favorites. But at the same time I can’t watch any show filmed on digital after discovering TNG as an adult.
>>214209002If Tasha was into auto racing, she would be Tasha Car.
>>214209064if Tasha was a pirate she'd be Tasha Arrr
If Tasha grew up in the Federation she'd lost her virginity on a holodeck and not to rape gangs.
>>214209025The Blu-Ray remasters of TNG are so fucking gorgeous, the later seasons look like they were shot yesterday, all thanks to being shot in film with a good budget. That alongside the S-tier performance of Stewart and the unexpectedly great writing (still unsurpassed in sci-fi TV) makes TNG (well, mostly the mid-late series) feel extremely modern and ahead of its time in a way that no other Trek series does. Like, tonally and thematically and in terms of how the characters interact, TNG STILL feels ahead of its time and especially ahead of other Trek and sci-fi shows in how it depicts the future.

>>214201273Dukat's father died because of his ambition and Dukat inherits all of Cardassia at it's weakest moment only to squander the opportunity to be an independent leader to ally with the devil which will get you what? DS9? The Wormhole? Bajor? Do you think the Cardassians would have always sided with the Dominion no matter what?
>>214201273The Dukat/Garak banter/rivalry is such absolute kino. I especially love the episode where the DS9 crew needs to call in Dukat to help deactivate the security systems and despite being minutes away from death, Dukat and Garak still waste time shouting at each other and insulting each other for old times' sake. I fucking love Cardassians.
>>214209104If Tasha married Klinger she'd be Tasha Farr.

>>214209988Dukat is basically living a Mexican soap opera telanovela in terms of how he views himself (as the troubled and morally questionable but rich and powerful male lead) with Kira as the poor simple peasant girl, whereas Kira views herself in some post-modern feminist sci-fi.
>>214209864If Tasha became a doctor on board a space station, she would be Basha Yir
>>214210058Reminds me of Generalissimo from 30 Rock.
>>214210141One of the greatest sitcom episodes of all time. But it’s also some sort of filter because every time I try to show it to someone, they don’t get the jokes. Like, you don’t understand. This is what 30 million abuelas are watching all day while you’re at work.
>>214208950There's a lot more nostalgia for Star Trek.
>>21421020630 Rock, like SNL at its best, requires some form of coherent media literacy that pulls from the history of TV.Zoomers are completely disconnected from the centrality of media. They grew up on Youtube and so they'll never understand the little TV-isms that a great parody show uses.
>>214201479I've been rewatching it lately. I like how the ship's cramped. Without a ship's computer, though they have one to talk to in their Telemetry room, means the crew have to do more, they have to press more buttons, which means a shit ton of buttons and myriad control panels plastered everywhere. Nothing's really streamlined.
>>214208552oof DS9bros, the awful "the handicapped are... handicapable!" because the 90s thought they'd solidified race relations therefore disabled people were the next token minorityAt least it's got the Klingon restaurant scene.

>>214208950You can rewatch the kino old episodes
>>214210561Early DS9 was really bad with budget. The Allamarein ep was hilariously expensive just because they decided to use the Star Trek caves.
>>214211278It's not that they're "bad with budge" it's that they blow their load on a few select things so they have production value that actually pleases they audience and then they make it up later on. TNG worked the exact same way.
>>214211285From the Dominion's perspective the Cardassians, including Dukat, were basically just whiny annoying small-minded low-level employees they had to put up with just to get a job done, and this comes across so many times in the interactions with Weyon, I fucking love it.
>>214211336same. i've watched that scene so many times it's just so good. their relationship is so interesting.
>>214211322Move Along Home really pleased the audience and the caves did the trick and saved the ep.
>>214211336Weyoun "it's all so tiresome"-edit when?
>>214211367Move Along Home suffered from them blowing their budget on the pilot. It was supposed to have them go into like this whole magical realm but there wasn't the budget for they reworked it so you just got a weird hallway + caves.
>>214211336>>214211363>>214211379I swear this was based on the historical interactions between Hitler and Mussolini, where Hitler was constantly having to bail out Mussolini from his retarded fuck-ups and pretending to care about his silly larping delusions of being a big strong man while dealing with way bigger problems elsewhere.
>>214211382I like how the bad guy was basically this guy
>>214211379i just want to point out that even though his displeasure isn't a secret or anything and he gets his petty little jabs in here and there he never actually lashes out against Dukat he just kind of entertains his moronic whims like when he was sitting there looking at Ziyal's stupid paintings. the only time you see him popping off is in a hologram where Garak put words in his mouth and then in Dukat's hallucination. he's just such a professional and I love that about him.
>>214211379Here's the template
Allamaraine, count to four,Allamaraine, then three more,Allamaraine, if you can see,Allamaraine, you'll come with me!
Dude should have been court-martialed for this.
>>214211456Herbert.
>>214211432That's what makes him so funny, because he obviously dislikes his job and has absolutely no respect for Dukat but he is way too professional to say anything about it, because he prioritises smooth relations to get the job done. This is hilariously realistic.
>>214196979Dunno, but according to IMDB, the production designer, Jonathan Lee, for ST SNW is also the production designer for star wars: attack of the clones
>>214211483I'm so glad TOS had a hippie episode and not TNG, because in TNG Picard and co. would have tolerated and respected the hippies whereas Kirk just told them to fuck off because he was an actual chad.
>>214211336I prefer how the Female Changeling treats Cardassians: just unmitigated scorn and disregard
>>214211617she can afford to do that because Weyoun 5 was so good at tardwrangling them
Halfway through TNG and I want it to be over already so I can move onto DS9. I'm an Irish fag so I need more Mileskino. At least he has been given more to do in season 4.
>>214211647The Changelings were basically the utterly soulless and inhuman CEOs dozens of levels above any regular workers and in their own world, whereas Weyoun was the regional manager who had to actually deal with the lower-level annoying asshole managers and try to convince/pressure them into running things properly despite (correctly) thinking they're fucking morons.
>>214211664You'll miss the colour, vibrancy, warmth and comfiness of TNG after 3 episodes of DS9 lmaoAlso be VERY FUCKING CAREFUL what you wish for when you say you want more O'Brien, because that means you get more Keiko too
>>214211701and that's why I highly relate to him. i wish i handled working with retards with his grace. but i have a quick temper.
>>214211738You need to remove your genitals, like the Founders did for the Vorta or how people neuter their dogs. You'll have a better temperament and live longer.
>>214211582Wish they'd have come back in VOY, Janeway would've airlocked the bastards.
You know Quark really put it bluntly when he commented on the fact that the Jem'Hadar don't eat, don't drink, don't sleep. And the Vorta are just as tireless. They are just not good customers and that is why they will never acquire the alpha quadrant.
>>214211877Why were they hanging around Quark's?
>>214211664>I want it to be over already so I can move onto DS9Patience is a virtue. Watch each episode one by one. Don't skip.
>>214211877Keevan would definitely be down to get drunk and talk shit. Vorta aren't QUITE as homogeneous and soulless as Jem'Hadar. With time they could come around.

>>214211988Or to Garak>They're dead.>You're dead.>All of Cardassia is dead.
>>214211988>She has this look
>>214212016Quite honestly Worf should have let Garak murder her and the rest of the choids (foids?) right then and there
>>214212046Good actors who could emote through their latex, where did they all go?
>>214211278>>214211382>hilariously expensive because caves>no budget so they just get cavesSo uh which is it? It's my personal worst DS9 ep but I think I lean towards the later as an explanation, it might've been okay with like a movie budget
>>214212111There are good actors without latex and they stopped using practical effects and outsourced it all to cgi
>>214211568AotC had decent designs though, but it was also 25 years ago. Maybe he got too influenced by JJ movies (of both franchises) in the meantime.

NEW>>214212205>>214212205>>214212205
>>214211932Well... maybe skip Sub Rosa.
>>214212113i'm relaying what I read in the DS9 companion book. they said that show suffered and a lot of people felt the end result was "disappointing" for various reasons but they did indeed not have the budget to do their original idea. they wanted the characters to be in this fairy-like village but there was no budget for buildings or to film on a street set Paramount had. and they directly mention the tight budget was because of how much they spent on the pilot. nothing in the book about the caves in particular.
>>214212062Letting Garak kill the entirety of the Founders then killing him would have been the honorable thing to do. It would have saved billions.
