Alien Earth is actually a great show because it remembers what made Alien scary in the first place. It is not just about monsters popping out of the dark it is about paranoia and survival and the constant tension of being trapped with something you do not understand. Every episode keeps the focus tight with corridors shadows and distrust between the crew and it nails that claustrophobic vibe. The fly that eats synths was not just a cool monster it was a clever twist on the theme of what counts as life and who gets to be prey. That is smarter than it gets credit for.The barefoot mogul is easy to clown on but in a way he works too. His whole thing is not subtle but it is unsettling. He is like a cult leader who believes he is untouchable so he strips away even basic human conventions like shoes. It makes him look ridiculous and creepy at the same time which fits the tone.And say what you want about the writing the actors are locked in. No one is winking at the camera. They sell the fear and the paranoia like their lives depend on it. Even when the script goes goofy the cast grounds it. That is why the show works it is not just dumb monsters it is people trapped in a world that hates them on every level biological mechanical and corporate.You can nitpick all day but at the end of the day Alien Earth is kino because it swings for the fences and keeps the atmosphere tense as hell.
