It's somewhere between a 5 and 6 for me after one viewing. The photography, sound, and acting were good, but the narrative, pacing, and editing were not.

I hear Del Toro's new film is more a rumination on what it means to be a man and less a horror, reception has been lukewarm. whereas I think you need the horror aspect to have the monster to work. the scene where he kills the little girl is exceedingly creepy in the original.
frankenstein's monster often just comes across as an angry undead dude in adaptions because the directors don't do enough to make the audience feel his existance as a patchwork of other humans, something ghastly and blasphemous, yet existing none the less.
I think Junji Ito's adaption works really well because of the horror. He's repulsive, unnaturally large and powerful, and kills without remorse.

Nah it's not really stylized like that, it's more akin to a super slick TV pilot/movie, something you'd see from the producers of 24 and Alias
I actually can't even remember if tv movies were still a thing in the 00s, I don't think so. Anything that would have been a standalone film became a pilot as television moved more towards being cinematic itself.

Are there any good horror anthology shows other than Tales from the Crypt?
>>
>>214523207
I'm not trying to turn this into a whatchamacallit, but...I remember a book, a true story, about a Jewish girl whose family had been wiped out by Nazis and she managed to escape into the woods. She lived in the woods for some period of time with a pack of wolves who took her into their confidence. Then at night she would sneak into the town or village or whatever and murder Nazis on her. Including, but not limited to, strangling them to death with her bare hands. Boomers had no trouble believing this really happened so why would a lone grown adult woman, armed with a knife no less, taking on an entire village of people, not even trained killers no less, armed with assault rifles be so hard to believe?

I wish there was a decent modern anthology that actually had a wraparound, not some kind of through story. Who-ever is sitting on the Tales IP waiting for a payday is just being greedy at this point.
Can barely even buy merch for it.

this is a lot like me seeing parts of Halloween 6 as a kid, gave me nightmares for many years afterwards.
one of my nieces didn't want to go within like 30m of the mummy at the museum so we had to do a big loop to get around it.

Sort of related
>Freddie Oversteegen was a member of the Dutch resistance during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II.
>Oversteegen, her sister, and friend Hannie Schaft also killed German soldiers, with Freddie being the first of the girls to kill a soldier by shooting him while riding her bicycle.
>They also lured soldiers to the woods under the pretense of a romantic overture and then killed them.
>Oversteegen would approach the soldiers in taverns and bars and ask them to "go for a stroll" in the forest.

Starting to really like some of these crappy low budget 00's movies I used to avoid. The plot of this was pretty generic and the ghost effects were bad and ruined some cool makeup designs but it had some some fun kills.

The Black Waters Of Echo Pond was another enjoyable one. Too bad some of the others are such a crapshoot though.

Is this true?
Haha, yes, Mad Max: Fury Road definitely has female characters—Imperator Furiosa is basically the co-lead, and a bunch of the “wives” play key roles. But if your main goal is testing surround sound, the gender of characters doesn’t affect the audio mix —it’s all explosions, engines, and environmental chaos flying around you.

If you’re picky about avoiding female leads for some reason, Dune is mostly male-focused, though it does have a few key female characters (like Lady Jessica)

Has anyone here seen the tv show called the Dark? It is German but on Netflix. Highly rated.
>>
>>214527077
When two children go missing in a small German town, its sinful past is exposed along with the double lives and fractured relationships that exist among four families as they search for the kids. The mystery-drama series introduces an intricate puzzle filled with twists that includes a web of curious characters, all of whom have a connection to the town's troubled history -- whether they know it or not. The story includes supernatural elements that tie back to the same town in 1986. "Dark" represents the first German original series produced for Netflix.
Cool. Sounds like a typical horror movie plot.

>>214527088

>For foreign stuff, ratings are more trustworthy
Not really, especially if it breaks out into the anglophone audience, then people get a bit too enthusiastic because it's usually the first foreign show they've watched.
>>
>>214527486
> because it's usually the first foreign show they've watched.
It is 2025.
>>
>>214527519
Well it's either that or they just overlook things like bad performances because it's in another language. Imagine if people were giving K-Drama performances in English, people would rightly call it absolute dreck.
>>
>>214527486
If a show breaks out, the ratings are still more trustworthy because foreign shows have less forced woke so reviews and opinions are more grounded.
There isnt an elephant in the room (ugly blacks. ugly browns, ugly females, etc) that viewers have to pretend are not there.
>>
>>214527539
K drama is something else. Definitely meant for females. Not a good comparison.
We are focusing on horror/action/sci-fi shows and not shows kike korean drama which is something niche. “Korean drama” literally implies a certain genre.
