Back from TIFF.

Frankenstein was a very good Frankenstein movie. Great make-up and production design, questionable CGI. If you like Del Toro's style then you'll love this movie. The acting was fine; the actor playing the monster gave the best performance. On the whole is was just good.

JUNK WORLD was a blast. If you're a fan of the original movie JUNK HEAD then you'll love this too. Weird, funny, and action packed. The BTS during the credits of how they made the movie was also really cool to see. I hope the director is able to find another crew to make the next movie so it doesn't take him 10 years to make the third film.

Why does every horror movie have to be a shitty thinly veiled metaphor for some retarded shit. I wish the fucking word "TRAUMA" never made it into the horror lexicon.

I want to watch a monster that does things because it is hungry or playing like a cat with a rabbit. Or it has some other motive other than being a retarded stand in for the writer to voice their distain for getting spanked or told "no" as a kid. Go see a fucking therapist you freak.

That doesnt mean I just want to watch gore. I want monster flicks where there isnt an abusive, alcaholic parent. I don't want to know shit about the main character because it is always a TRAURMRER dump of retarded shit.

Why can some people go into the woods on a hunting trip and get hunted by a wendigo? Why cant an alien monster just kill because it is hungry and not just as a metaphor for rape or whatever retarded nonsense.

Horror is straying from the path and realizing you're lost in bear country. The fear of being hunted with no real reliable mode of escape.

I am just butthurt by the overused shitty metaphors and tropes that ruined The Terror, new Creepshow, and every single "horror" short.
>>
>>214533884
It's a consequence of women and modern feminized men having more participation in horror as a genre.
>>
>>214533504
I'm not the biggest Frankenstein fan. If I wanted to watch a serious version of the story I'd go with Del Toro's film, but my favorite is still Young Frankenstein.
>>
>>214533970

>>
>>214534453
The craziest thing is that sometimes feminized men are even worse. For example Jessica Biel wanted to show her tits in TCM remake but the cuck director said it would be objectifying her, misogynistic male gaze blah blah all that nonsense and kept her clothed.

The Snake Queen
Satan's Slaves 1 & 2
May the Devil Take You Too
Impetigore

>>
>>214536097
There's an 80s Queen of Black Magic and a recent one, they're not the same thing exactly but both spooky
A lot of those are solid enough you should find western fans without the list. Impetigore and Satan's Slaves have a fairly big following, Satan's Slaves especially because it South Korean co production afaik, so it's getting k-wave viewers too it's about inferitle women cult
Can't vouch for all of them, or your taste, but there's a 50/50 you're hitting a banger with a western audience from that list

>>214539752

>>
>>214539752
Work restrictions are definitely the number 1 reason. They can only work a certain amount of hours a day, a certain amount of hours in a row, and only until a certain time in the day. You also have to shoot around certain things because you don't want to get arrested & sued for corruption of a minor. Obviously, this is much easier these days with adding CGI in post.
>>
>>214539832
I disagree. Read Salem's Lot.
As good as the 70s mini series was, no adaptation will ever be as good as the original work.

Also, as far as I remember none of the 3 adaptations have had Barlow's letter in it. Which is a shame because I remember it being so good.

The short story The Mist was also very good and wasn't topped by the movie.

lol you’re not even wrong. every time I go to read a book by him because I liked a movie usually the movie is better. Carrie is so much more well done as a screen play based on his novel. And IT Part 1 the movie is actually a full and complete story that doesn’t need all the adult story shit. Cutting out the entire adult hood story arc and all his hippy garbage in the screenplay made the movie so much better and a ton creepier.

I'd add The Howling and Jaws. no offense to the source material in either case, I just think the movie's better.
yeah The Shining (Kubrick one) is prime example of the movie being better than SK's book, King can seethe about it

It is CRIMINAL we can't have more of that. A competent deadly monster with no pretentious motive, a dozen men competently trying to respond to and stop it, an isolated location, no women, ending with everyone and everything dead. The perfect movie.

normal people don’t know how to appraise horror properly because it’s outside their usual frame of reference
a normie will look at the original Evil Dead and think "what the fuck is this? it’s cheap, ugly, badly-acted and the effects are terrible” whereas a horror fan will look at it and go “fuck yes”

in my experience, when you see a rating for a horror film on a 10 point scale you should add 2 points and that's the true rating for a horror fan
