I think the film is about the difficulties of domestic life for non conformist relationships. the sex doll, the affair, the near divorce novelist the obsessed artist, they all were basically struggling because they were unable to live up to the expectations that le SOCIETY placed upon them. its a large apartment block, and as such, the neighbors are going to be at lest somewhat privy to the drama among the relationships. It seems like its essentially the negative of Kdrama series. from what i can tell, marrying up and getting on with your life seems to be a huge pressure in korea, and as such, those who struggle with relationships quickly get pushed ot the wayside. something something the individual has less import than the couple or the family, so once divorced form the parent the single person is useless until they are married. The comic book artist was able to get by without danger for so long because he was doing fine in his place, he is young, has a girlfriend, and so on. but near the end his obsession with his art leads to him neglecting his 'main' responsibility, his finding of a future wife, and that is precisely when things become dangerous for him. i rate it 7 or 8 on the scaries, 4 or 5 on the plot, and award it bonus points for being sublte about its message, but still being pretty accessible. i think korean viewers, if my read is accurate, would see this with greater ease, and might find it on the nose.
Black Phone wasn't great. Seems like both that and the Sinister gabagool mask were trying too hard. Terrifier, good mask though. The Collector? Kind of goofy.Thanksgiving, plain but it's cool it's unique.

Interesting read. The segment about the sex doll was the best I thought, just because it's memorable.If you want a similar feeling film, try Rigor Mortis (2013). It's actually a homage to the Mr. Vampire films, but you don't need to know that to enjoy it. Set in a Hong Kong high rise. Though watching Mr. Vampire first is always recommended since it's kino.
