I think it's safe to say the director Jennifer Kent ruined horror.

Here's my list so far this year. Everything will be a first time watch outside of the first Phantasm movie and Pumpkinhead 2 (I'm sure I've seen it but don't remember anything about it)

Weapons
Bring Her Back
V/H/S Halloween
Strange Harvest
Together
Smile 1 & 2
Ready or Not
Zombieland: Double Tap
Becky 1 & 2
Curtins
The Monkey
Adam Chaplin
Phantasm series
TCM '17 '22
[Rec]
The Boogeyman
M3gan 2.0
Pumpkinhead 2
JackO
Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers
Night of the Reaper
Baby Blood (1990)
Scurry
28 Years Later
Clown in a Cornfield
Final Destination: Bloodlines
The Long Walk
The Ugly Stepsister
Handling the Undead
The Shrouds
Destroy all Neighbors

I'll be watching classics as well but I'm just going to play that by ear day to day. I probably won't get to watch everything.
>>

>>214736605
Added.
>>
>>214737126
Monster A Go Go, Wild World of Batwoman, and Dead Talk Back are movies so bad that I genuinely get nauseated thinking about them.
Manos is actually extremely charming. It is bad, but it's at least a film with a beginning middle and end.
>>
>>214737123
I want to tell you to replace some of those but I hardly can given I watched them as well. Some kino in there.
Is Phantasm a fav?

28 Weeks Later isnt even worth watching
>>
>>214737157
I don't think it's too bad of a list. I really struggle to find movies I haven't seen before, that's why there's so much modern slop.
>Is Phantasm a fav
I saw it once years ago and it didn't really stick with me so I never watched the other ones. I'm gonna give the entire series a watch to see what the fuss is about. Can't be worse than when I watched the entire Hellraiser series.
>>
>>214737197

>>
>>214741976
I think they're going full supernatural with it, where the Grabbler can appear in your dreams to kill you, like Freddy
>>
>>214742433
That's one of 3 ways I see it going. The other two is they retcon the ending and he's still alive, which is the worst way to do it IMO. The one I see happening is Finney suffers from PTSD, hallucinations, etc. and all the grabber stuff isn't real. Anyone that ends up getting killed is by Finney, not the Grabber.
>>
>>214742496
I like your last idea. I don't want them to retcon the ending of the first movie either.
>>
>>214742547
The only problem with mine is that his sister is in the movie, which would make things difficult is he's the killer. So yeah, a Freddy situation is pretty likely as well.

Found Footage movies that aren't horror, what's the confusion? Here's all of them that I've seen & liked:
>The Dirties
If the basement tapes were a FF movie, but incredibly unbiased.
>Operation Avalanche
If the moon landing really was faked, here's how they'd do it.
>Man Bites Dog
Follows around a serial killer
>Alien Outpost
Sci-Fi action movie that pits the military vs aliens
>Project Almanac
Teens build a time machine
>End Of Watch
Cops against criminals
>Zero Day
If the basement tapes were a FF movie, but a more factual account of the Columbine shooting.
>The Midnight Swim
Slow drama about three half-sisters meeting at their dead mom's lake cabin.

Yeah i've a preference for when they put in "documentary filmmakers" or some other reason they would know how to set up a tripod in the blurb, because usually that means "not shaky cam"
Shaky cam is funny or useful sometimes but I don't need to be sicksea for 2hrs
>>214745955
Meh I think a lot of these are aiming at the horror market, sci-fi overlap is pretty big with horror, same with action/crime
I thought you might mean someone had a FF romance where they're pasting together home video or something like an actual documentary on found footage with no freakiness in it
>>
>>214745971

as a follow up to last nights ghost mansion i watched ghost train
written by the same guy but directed by some other
saw a lot of recurring themes , he seems to predominately be targeting phobias this time we got some trypophobia (though its execution was cheap and a bit rushed) that seemed very much inspired by that silent hill f game
mansion was a lot creepier and this felt a bit half baked understood why the stuff was creepy but didn't manage to go all the way. there seems to be some establishment of some base ideas as a red thread to connect this with mansion and to possible future installments, both in terms of a background story and in some thematic qualities (ghost mansion you had a webtoon artist chasing ghost stories and in this you have a youtuber doing the same)
not quite as strong but a light recommend to anyone interested in seeing a new korean horror series in the making

the movie makes more sense when you read the japanese title for it
リアル鬼ごっこ (real onigokko)
the rules of onigokko are different from tag in that there are three roles; oni, parents, and children
parents protect the children from the oni by forming a row the oni has to get behind and touch the child to win

>I want to watch Firestarter for John Carpenter's score.
It's like Halloween Ends in that JC's score singlehandedly saves both from being unmitigated disasters.

>>214749385
I read that after downloading the movie last night... they also made the second half years later with a different cast like Plan 9. The fuck's up with that? At least you get to see Lugosi in that one.

Creepshow is still the best horror anthology. I haven't seen anything yet that beats it.

Firestarter's really unremarkable. The score is good as you would expect. But the movie isn't bad, or good. It's just unmemorable and kinda there. You won't remember a damn thing about it a few days after you watch it.

Firestarter is good, but not amazing or anything. The books is genuinely better(like every Stephen King adaption) the story in the movie feels a bit rushed, and uninspired I think.
>>
>>214737866
The story of them shooting that scene was fun.

>Guerilla-style shooting, no permits
>Shot in some industrial park by the Hudson
>The guy who actually fired the shot was Tom Savini, so he was basically shooting himself
>Actual live rounds were used, no squibs
>Push the car into the Hudson
>Pass the shotgun off to an off-duty cop
>They all drive off in separate directions before the cops had time to arrive
>>
>>214750661
Savini's also only playing that role because he already had his own head made up to fill with gore as a proof of concept, and when he told them he planned to shotgun blast it, they offered him a part so they could get it on film

I met him at a con about 15 years ago, and he couldn't have been a bigger dick if he tried. He was standing by his booth, and I came up to him to get him to sign my Day of the Dead poster.

"Fifteen bucks," he said. No "hi", not even a "sure", just "fifteen bucks."

I don't think he even looked at me once during the entire exchange either. If you watch the interview he did with James Rolfe, he's kind of a dick to him too. I've been told that if you're not a filmmaker (or a chick), he's got no time for you.

Meanwhile, Bill Mosley, Sid Haig, Ken Foree, George Romero, Kane Hodder, Reggie Bannister, Michael Berryman, could not have been nicer.

What a silly movie. I mean, why kill someone who possessed but harmless when you know that his ghost will posses a guy next to you or even you?

I still liked the idea and some gritty visual stuff earlier the movie. And I love how Natasha Henstridge's character was high FOR an entire film, which helped her to stay not-possessed. I like the message. Funny how Clea DuVall also was in The Faculty which has similar idea in its core.
