ok, help me understand this please.

In the original Alien movie, the Alien, after bursting from Kane's chest, runs off into the ship. I assume the crew took a short amount of time at most, to take care of Kane's body, deal with the mess in the mess hall and get over the shock of what happened before they realize that there's a hostile alien creature on board, small as it may be, and they need to deal with it.

Maybe a few hours passed since the chestburster came out of Kane and Brett gets killed / taken by the Alien in engineering, it being fully grown by the time it grabs Brett.

The Alien went from a tiny creature barely a foot tall to a 7ft+ tall monster in the span of a few HOURS at the most. The crew basically realizes and starts hunting down the Alien immediately.

So in Alien Earth, how is one of the Xenomorphs so small still, not fully grown? Why is this such an inconsistency in the plot? The Xenos are supposed to just magically get huge somehow, it's never explained in any way but they somehow gain a fuck ton of mass in a tiny timespan and grow to full size. None of this shit makes any sense or is internally consistent. They just make up new rules with each new Alien entry in the series and it pisses me off. You cannot have a cohesive, consistent lore for Alien when you throw a bunch of new shit or re-write the rules every single time for the sake of plot convenience.

The lore isn't really locked into one thing. In some versions they're some kind of engineered weapon that grew out of control. Maybe that type of alien would like being back under control and set to a purpose. They can get big, but they don't have to. There are maybe different types they can specialize into being, for example. The one in Alien was one type, or picked one approach, but it's different than the one here, or in Alien 3 or etc. They can also sometimes be influenced by the type of creature they grew inside, in some stories. This is like, size and body type obviously, but also personality or the approach they might tend towards. It's not really a plot hole so much as something left deliberatly ambigious because it's a horror monster and those are less fun if they're fully explained.
