People will say you're just thinking too hard and handwave it away, but the corpse manipulation really is a blatant violation of the setting's suspension of disbelief. I thought it was going somewhere, it but it started losing me somewhere around two or three episodes ago when they got back from the ship salvage. That's when the cracks really began to show. Finale was abysmal dogshit and confirmed all of my fears from the preceding episodes. I can't imagine being interested to see where it goes at this point, it'll be four seasons in before they get enough of juicing the eyeball and let it take over an alive person. Or it'll get cancelled first. I will say that I liked (some of) the sets, Kirsh and Smee.

The barnacle finally showing up only to kill the jobbers (while doing half life gib sound effects) hammered it in for me that the show is primarily to give the series a modern reference for zoomers and springboard it back into cultural relevance. I was overestimating it the entire time, probably because of nostalgia. They are explicitly appealing to 12-25 year olds with a paint-by-numbers power fantasy. Maybe it's poorly aping Predator's comeback by making a super-safe MCU Netflix show from 2014 where best friends defeat evil with friendship, I have no idea.

Overall verdict: capeshit action sequences mixed with schoolyard-tier allegories and stilted emotional beats that don't land, feel unnecessary and are likely autobiographical and therapeutic on some level for the writer. (Is this guy estranged from his sister?) Add in terrible actors carried by one guy trying his absolute hardest and it's like every horror movie made in the last decade.

Are staggered releases in the streaming age primarily to disguise inconsistent quality? I should have watched this in an afternoon so I could forget it immediately. The normies are gonna love it as designed.
