Sarah Gadon is wondering if those are worth it.

The greatest film of the last 100 years is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This should have the reputation that Citizen Kane does, and even came out two years before it (1939 vs 1941)

If it's not Snow White, then what can it possibly be? Snow White does so many things at once.

>invents a new artform and perfects it at the same time
>mass entertainment and commercial success
>critically acclaimed

I am probably the only actual film historian on /film/ (I have done several audio commentaries including on early Gaumont releases). The live action canon gravely underrates the history of animation and believes it to be a subset of cinema, hence, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs lack of presence on Sight & Sound.

You would be gravely mistaken if you believe animation is for babies. Even a film like Who Frames Roger Rabbit (this would land in my top 25) is more important than films like Citizen Kane and The Godfather. Then there is Vertigo and 2001, films that are only important due to the John Whitney and Douglas Trumbull special effects, but then even Silent Running is more important in that regard.

Sometimes I wonder how Eisenstein would have reacted if he lived to see films like Tron or Nintendo Entertainment System videogames like Metroid, A Boy and His Blob and Myst, which present a simulation with free will.

Suriyothai (2001) depicts the 16th century ruined Kingdom of Ayutthaya, which later became Siam. During this period, there were 2 city states that encompassed Siam (Ayutthaya and Pitsanulok). This film takes place over a score of years where the Kingdom saw many invasions from the neighboring Honsawadi (Ancient Burma).

The film features full scale outdoor sets, real temples, throne rooms, ancient palaces, and massive scenes with thousands of extras on camera in a scale not seen since Lawrence of Arabia. It was funded by the Thai royal crown, allowing them access to royal palaces and relics, and directed by one of the Thai princes who went to film school with Francis Ford Coppola. Coppola later re-edited the film, trimming 3 hours from its runtime, changed its name, added his own name to the title and ruined it. It is shot in a traditional manner using practical effects. They conscripted 20,000 soldiers to play the extras, used 350 elephants, etc.

This is the never before ripped non-export edition of Suriyothai that came in the mail on Monday. As a celebration for finally discovering the 2.0 track, I have painstakingly and professionally re-written the entire English subtitle sourced from the export DVD, all 3,000 lines of dialog. Beforehand, the previous hard subtitle packaged with the export DVD was completely botched, with improper grammar, misspellings, mis-translations, and even several scenes without subtitle at all. I worked through the subtitle top to bottom. I believe you all will be pleased with the result.

I continue my effort to resurrect this utterly lost film, a masterpiece that was ruined by none other than Francis Ford Coppola, that is now relegated to the dustbin of film history. I have contacted Arrow, Kino Lorber, Criterion, and just about everyone else about remastering this film in its full 300 minute, 5-hour long glory.

Maybe it was Godard, maybe it was both, but I can clearly remember one of them writing about how Murnau and Mizoguchi were the poets of cinema, and labelling others directors accordingly, such as Renoir as a musician and so forth.
>>
>>214838848
There is theatre (Griffith), there is poetry (Murnau) there is painting (Rossellini), there is music (Renoir), there is dance (Eisenstein), and therefore there must be cinema; and the cinema is Nicholas Ray.

The Connery arc is just bad rip offs of North by Northwest. Moore's are stilted FOTM B movies. Dalton has a great duology but still constrained by dumb Bond tropes. Pierce is fucking terrible but this board loves him because they probably saw Goldeneye first. Craig's CR is probably the best flick in the franchise, QoS is watchable as a direct sequel, the rest can be ignored.

I got recommended this film awhile back from here. Just watched it today and I can tell you it’s one of the best noir films I’ve seen. Thank you /film/.

did you know kurosawa wrote a few animes posthumously? seven 7 2004 and kaze no yojimbo 2001. how am i supposed to feel about this?
>>
>>214850661
Based Burt.
>>
>>214848693
It's meh as hell. His first mistake imo.

>>214849407
Yeah, it's very slow. I wouldn't say it's bad though, but better watched as separate films.

>>214849788
Film?
>>
>>214850804
Kurosawa doesn't have screenwriting credit on either one. They're just adaptations of his movies.

The trvest femcel kino ever made, maybe even the only trvecel femcel kino ever made.
Why did our hero decide to stay living the cucked live at the end, though? Did he get the feels for his incoming kodomo?

What is your favorite Nouvelle Vague movie /film/?

>>
>>214851909
Avistaz has a 408 MB DVDrip that is probably the same as the one you found on youtube.
>>
i hit submit too early. the french director is actually a french woman.

Up there. no need to be just one. Vertigo, Rocco + his brothers, The Leopard, 2001 are all necessary and spawned imitators too. SWA7D has far less impact on live action. Wizard of Oz has bigger fanfic subculture than just a theme park.

avistaz is great for Japanese cinema imo

i dont appreciate your not essay, nor do i the reference to this guy named varoufakis. not a single mention of the bank for international settlements, multilateral institutions, development banks, think tanks, and standard setting bodies is made within his 2024 publication. it is for these reasons, and because he's an agenda contributor to the world economic forum, that i have concluded that his material is designed to create a malleable base.

>>214853215
thanks.
look up his other work - he was the minister of finance in greece pre collapse when the government went against the referendum for rejecting austerity measures to get the third IMF bailout and loan restructuring. he walked out of the government in response to this. he's highly critical of the the international banking structure and how it runs a racket operation on the entire world on behalf of a few US and EU bankers deciding foreign policy of the west.

I'll asume Porcupine Tree is ass based on the level of praise the band receives from nerds and the fact that Blackest Eyes is just a nu metal song with pop verses.

Need something to scratch that I, Claudius itch.
Watched The Lion in Winter, didn't like it much because it came off as too soapy and relying too much on twist gimmicks and confusion in sacrifice of genuine drama and storytelling

Sad! Listen to Anesthetize or the albums Deadwing, Stupid Dream, Fear of a Blank Planet, Signify, In Absentia.

That docu about the I, Claudius joint Von Sternberg was working on, starring Charles Laughton as Claudius. It has all the surviving runtime of it and it's splendid to say the least.
