The Ascent is good but it has nothing to do with feminism. The "feminist" canon is basically all cheating fantasies, 50 shades of grey but with an arthouse aesthetic, usually ripped off from a male director the woman was in contact with.

People say it's a terrible film, but I've never watched it. From what I've seen, most fans of the "sick film" genre prefer movies with a better execution and less pretentiousness, like Martyrs, La vie nouvelle or Irréversible. Even full on exploitation fans of shit like Mermaid in a Manhole and the like have said to me that Melancholie der Engel sucks on all levels possible.

i dont want to make a thread about it so i put it here
best movies ive seen this last months with no particular order and just because i want to.

>The Nickel Ride - a secondary, non-important character of the mob that have a movie for himself. very pleasant.
>Juana a los 12 - solondz-like and surprisingly clever and sad, if you had an autistic adolescence you would like it
>une femme este une femme - the movie that made me realize all godard movies are reallly comedies. he would be an unapologetical popular genius by now if he embraced this silliness and alien sense of humour.
>bury me an angel - 60-s hippie b movie of vengeance with trash charm and with, unironically, great weird slow camera ending
>prince of the city - the beginning of a master piece but entangled in itself too much, still great.
>ghost soup - i love Shinji so i just love this endearing and stupid little movie of angels and benevolent spirits with anoraks and 90´ home camera video style, im that kind of weird fag
>iich will docjh nur - Fassbinder is really great when he make this bleak movies where he follow his protagonist despite everything. this is the story of a really kind and confused man that dont know how make people love him so he just buy them things, really good.
and thats all, dont forget to survive.

>terence stamp supposed to be christ?
That is the traditional interpretation of the film, yes.
>i dont see religious sentiment at all except in the woman levitating, but its too little.
It is about christian faith.
Emilia (the maid) represents true christianity and its connection to the poor people's authentic lifestyles, while the rich family shows the inauthenticity of the elites that gets exposed by Terrence's presence, but gets redeemed in the same way by his "lessons". It's also evident that Terrence's character loves every person in the family without there being a discrimination for their age, sex or class, representing Christ saving humanity through inconditional love.
The levitation scene is just the physical representation of the revelations and miracles that Terence gives the family, in the sense that they get confronted with the truth about themselves and are then left to act according to their own conscience. Some of them are unable to face themselves (the young lady that dies due to "not letting go"; being incapable of accepting the new version of herself that was shown by Terrence), while others are able to adapt and sacrifice their egos to realize their true potential (the father, which symbolically removes his links to materialism (clothes, status, money) and gets naked as a way of showing his intention to start again from a perspective of humbleness).
All in all, Pasolini presents a simplified version of christianity that can be represented by the following biblical quote: "it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God" - Luke 18:25

the only acts of love of terence stamp (christ) is sexuality.
i dont care at all about religion labels, but just that made it, at best, an approximation to love/sex as redemtption. not a christian message.
my point is that there is nothing christian about it if you want to give some credibility to the word itself. anyway there is a little sense in what you say, its dumb, and, like i said, a pretty millenial "subversive" take for the "subversive´s sake. but pasolini was not a very bright mind, so its possible.
mi interpretation was that the bourguoise live a fake life, an emotionally dry life (the volcanic landscape) and terence stamp as some kind of naive stupid representation of the new hippy liberated people of now or the future without the suffocating restrictions of societal rules.
all in all an unnecesary alegorical take for a cliche like that

Lil Timmy got baited by that video. One of the comments:

Goddamnit! Will people who don't read stop making these levels! Can you name one new wave director from the Eastern European/Central Asian canon? Can you name an Iranian director from before the 80s? Can you name any chinese director from the chinese canon before 5th and sixth gen? Can you name a Mexican golden age film? Can you name an Indian indie film? You see my point? Naming levels to this shit are like trying to dig to the core of the earth with a spatula. Besides, the people who take it the most hardcore are the ones who experience art as a spiritual endeavor. Who take the great works of Cinema as a lens into the timeless patterns of human experience to contextualize them and they occur in real time in your own life. This way art becomes less about becoming a worthy reproductive entity according to the ideals of insert social identity group, and more about going to the source to become a better communicator, more prepared to find fortune within the ways people will come to treat you, more accepting of natural life, more comfortably precious with your vulnerability, and more important to people and the human race. Precisely because you can love freely. And this love rises past Cinema. It's a love that loves more once its loved a little. We all have this love in great spades by virtue of being human. The love that comes to love architecture, scuplture, painting, music, literature, photography, dance, and theatre. And beyond that, History, philosophy, theology, spirtuality, psychology, sociology, anthropology, political science, economics and when you're done with all that, the natural sciences. Stay loving! Stay flying! Choose your energy to be part of the world!

But you know what. I'll forgive you if you can answer only THIS one question.

i am unfortunatley watching film again because i can't for the life of me find an anime that is worth my time. the scenario devised above did not work out, so i got enraptued by the idea of going on a bike ride loaded down with my shelter, camping equipment, cooking supplies and a potato. now that i have arrived back home, it is not anime which has my attention, but rather a film entitled gambit 1966. at first i thought it a bore, but the initial part is an important build up to the comedic elements present in the latter half of the film.

PT Anderson being a celebrated auteur while living as a normal dude in the Valley with Maya Rudolph, taking their 4 kids to Marvel movies and such, is incredibly endearing. It's Balzac's quote about living an orderly bourgeois life so you can be original in your art come to life.
>>
>>214904236
> living an orderly bourgeois life so you can be original in your art
Balzac, the guy who drank liters of coffee to work for 48 hours straight? the fella who slept in the street several times in his life? the individual who frequently visited homosexual brothels?
>>
>>214904236
That was Flaubert, not Balzac.
>>
>>214904528
another degenerate with a rotten penis btw
>>
>>214904636
You sure know a lot about the penises of 19th century French authors.
(This reads like Don DeLillo dialogue)
>>
>>214904528
You can tell because Balzac is always spicier than Flaubert
>>
>>214904730
come here, let me show you some pictures...

Supposedly straight niggas talking about penises and homos all of the time... kek.

I just love movies. I feel so empowered that I have a huge watchlist full of highly regarded movies from the past 90 years, and that I can just pick any one of them to watch at home on any given night and 99/100 times i'm going to have a great time watching it
>>

I like the scene where she is serving drinks at party, sees her friends there and immediately decides to hide.

how do i know whether im watching a film or the film is watching me?
>>
>>214907877
If you're watching a Godard flick or Haneke joint then the film is watching you and criticising you

Hotels seem like an underutilized setting. Other than Psycho, the Shining, and GBH are there any other movies set primarily in a hotel?
>>
>>214908953
Lost in Translation is a classic one.
Psycho is a motel joint, though.
