God Job! Not Worth Watching! (well-made in many ways, but too dreadful for a full view)
Hot Garbage

>>215068218
B’twixt Now and Sunrise – The Authentic Cut (2011, re-edited in 2022) – For me it’s a Good Job! Not Worth Watching. For someone else, the better lines and images might make it Worth a Watch . . . *if* he can bear another metaphoric meta-film about OVERCOMING GRIEF and THE PAIN OF CREATIVITY. Struggling writer Val Kilmer *seems* to go to a rural town to sign books and come up with an idea for his next. Gorgeous Elle Fanning appears in his dreams as a vampire, as does Edgar Allan Poe as a sort of spirit guide. Things clip along with the warm incidental details and idiosyncratic character development of a *straight* narrative about a haunted little town (the kind of thing October people are always wanting to see done right) . . . but then the genuinely interesting world dissolves into archetypal fragments, and everything is revealed to be an invention of writer Val.

This is always the easy and STUPID way. Metaphoric dissolution of the sort is the cheapest possible choice, the effortless method by which you can hand-wave every unsolved mystery you create, and preemptively guard yourself against feelings of inadequacy in case somebody thinks your imaginative work is CREEENGE. It’s never excusable. Create bravely or not at all! Sure, young Elle is almost supernaturally beautiful in this -- but you can enjoy her elsewhere. (There are, seemingly, several cuts. It’s mostly known for the original Twixt cut, and there are scenes that are different, but it all amounts to the same lame thing.)

As a fan since the early 90's I think of return of the living dead as a horror movie with light sprinkling on humor. Them treating it like its just another goofy shit zombie movie really sets my nipples on fire.

They certainly can make some good ones. Speaking of, I hope everybody in here has seen La Cabina? Some nice anon recommended this to me last year. They even have a replica of the sinister phone booth on public display in Madrid.

You'll either love it or be indifferent towards it. For the average viewer I'd recommend people start with VHS 2 instead since the segments there tend to be more entertaining. For the VHS series just expect wraparounds with underwhelming endings and generally fun found footage sloppa Outside of Viral, '99 and '85. Those are the weakest entries in the series by far and only have one segment really going for them.

Easily the worst V/H/S to date and that's saying something.
'Diet Phantasma' was dull but not the worst as narrative frames go.
'Coochie Coochie Coo' and 'Home Haunt' were decent segments. Both felt earnest, the first was kind of just incredibly generic but with an interesting enough bit of creativity and the latter was fun and well executed. 'Ut Supra Sic Infra' was also very generic but had no creativity to it, it was just boring.
'Fun Size' was insultingly bad. Looked like shit. All of the gags were incredibly reddit. Just absolutely stunk of soilennial writing with absolutely no charm whatsoever. Huge waste of time. Really a stand out for one of the worst V/H/S segments ever.
'Kidprint' had a lot of potential but blew it with the nonsensically shit writing. The pay off was weak, the narrative did that thing where characters inexplicably do things that make no sense in order to serve the convenience of the store, and it was in servitude of a completely lame idea. If you're going to attempt to do something as severe and heavy as this you need to have the writing capacity to pull it off and they didn't. In the end it felt very lazy which when mixed with the subject matter both made the segment pointless and left a bitter taste.
I genuinely don't get what it is about this V/H/S that has people praising it, it sucked and that's not a surprise because it has sucked for a while now but the previous handful of installments weren't getting juiced like this dog shit is.

I enjoyed the first V/H/S. The second and third stories were the weakest. Last sequence was the best. Looking forward to watching more of them.

The Final Conflict mentioned above is pretty good too.
He was ok in Daybreakers I guess. Seen him do small roles in some B stuff as well.

I know people are sick of hearing about it but the first time I saw Hereditary I felt genuinely gross walking out of the theater. Not scared but just like uneasy. I think it was her cutting her head off at the end for me.
