V/H/S Halloween (2025) – An anthology film that’s stupidly fun in every part, its exuberance kicks it up from a Strong Worth a Watch to Excellent. It’s more silly than serious -- the story that fills the gaps between the various segments, “Diet Phantasma,” is about a deadly focus group for supernatural soda -- but there are at least a couple segments that have a more serious, disturbing tone. Some of the most creative stories are actually the funnier ones, but none are without gallons of fake blood and a few pretty impressive practicals. The theme being Halloween, things usually start during parties or trick or treating; the next stage usually involves lots of SCREAMING and CHASING . . . which provides more room than you would *think* for individual expression. There’s a disgusting infantilization demon, a cursed phone, a supernatural candy man (reviled by some as “zoomer mascot horror” but I think he’s great), the notorious “Kidprint,” and it ends on a really fantastic bit about a suburban haunted house attraction. I’ve never been that fond of found footage, but I’ll definitely dive deeper into the V/H/S series at least. Basically, they’re all compilations of little horror movies with the fat and filler cut. This one is probably one of the more fun things I’ve seen this season!
