Scream 7 sounds like it might be a shitshow going by all the behind the scenes drama, pre-production being suspended due to that strike, Melissa getting fired, Jenna leaving over "creative differences", Neve Campbell skipping VI and demanding more and more money to be on this one (Just kill her character at this point, C'mon), had to retool the entire script after Melissa and Jenna were gone, so they changed it to bring back characters who previously died, first director quitting after all this shit and so on
Movie is cursed

i feel like i havent made my point very clearly and we might be talking past eachother. sorry for being rude. my point is that i wish that these creators came together and said "lets make another horror movie!" instead of "lets make another jason movie!" like the inclusion of jason isnt quite necessary for the film in jason lives. it could be any old supernaturally powerful serial killer with a bladed weapon and a spooky mask, but its jason because jason sells tickets and jason brings the studio money. what would i have made instead? and dont say something original? i mean im not a filmmaker, but if the central gimmick is accidental dead body reanimation, why not dig up charles manson and have a zombie cult leader slasher? consider this, perhaps the real sequel to scream is cabin in the woods. perhaps the real sequel to blair witch is paranormal activity. we can have genre and theme and structure parallelism without the need to use the same exact symbol. Michael, Jason, Freddy, Chucky, they all became shorthand, they lost nuance, and in my opinion they lost beauty. not to mention its quite hard to find out what sequels are good and worth watching (like apparantly scre4m and jason lives, and what ones are awful such as tcm (2022) and Jason Takes Manhattan.

>like the inclusion of jason isnt quite necessary for the film in jason lives.
Have you not seen this movie, either?
The movie is about a fucking past victim of Jason returning to kill him for good and contending with Crystal Lake the town and specifically the police force's desperation to prevent Tommy from doing anything because they don't want Jason mania to take over again, and they're trying to arrest him and frame him as the psycho
All of this requires not only Jason's body count over the past several movies, but also Tommy's arc in the previous two movies that demonstrate that he is kind of a lunatic, and how that happened, and quite importantly for a police force that would want to imprison him, that he was briefly institutionalized for mental instability
You could have picked a WORSE example
>>
>>215137523
Yes, it's called Friday the 13th (8), A Nightmare on Elm Street (5), and Halloween (4ish). Psycho 4 is good too, but not quite a slasher in itself.

>In her autobiography 'Truth and Dare: A Memoir', Rona De Ricci recalled an incident happened to her during the filming of this movie:"In one of the scenes, my character, Maria, who was imprisoned by Torquemada, is being examined nude, true to the Inquisition's handling of women who were accused of being witches and coerced into pleading guilty. At the rehearsal, and clothed at my insistence, the director wanted us to 'improvise' that scene a bit. Circled by the clergy and the guards, I was pulled and pushed and humiliated with barbs authentic to the period and some that were not. When I sensed this was getting out of the artistic realm and was more of a cruel joke, I protested. The director reassured me that it was for the sake of the shot. We tried again, but now the language turned more profane and contemporary, along with more shoving. The director watched with sick satisfaction. Crying in anger, I demanded it stop, citing that the script didn't call for it, nor had I signed for more than what was in this scene originally, and I refused to continue. "

The last generation of females/actresses and people in general really did age better.
This actress in the movie I am watching is still very young and presentable looking but is actually 24 years old.
Comparing her to modern 22 year old actresses who look 69 at 25 is such a big difference.

>You could have picked a WORSE example
perhaps, perhaps not. you stress the importance of the previous two movies. and this is jason 6, so... consider if they did the original three, then instead of a fourth they did a new killer in a new franchise, a-la Johnny from In a Violent Nature (2024) gave him an origin movie focused on atmosphere and frights, a campy sequel focused on booba and blood, and this precise plot for the third in the trilogy. make it have a single final girl, who has a similar arc to Tommy. Hell the first of the trilogy could have the Tommy-esque be a little girl who sneaks along to the camp with her big sister for fun and rebellion then escapes the killer after witnessing the horror, allowing the Jason-esque to be a complete murderer and get ALL of the counselors, then in the sequel she has suppressed those memories and becomes a counseler herself, the jason-esque returns, killing the counselers again and forcing those memories out of repression. then, her final girl status requires that she kill the Jason-esque, and the epilogue puts her in the psyche ward. In the third movie then, you can have her released from the psyche ward, then go back to the camp, and try to finally destroy completely the jason-esque and have it lead to an accidental resurrection.

do you see my point? jason isnt whats important here. Jason is the fungible part, but the studio churns out sequels. We can have stock character shenanigans, but the costumes dont have to be exact. my point is not that there is no value to be found in the extant sequels, but rather let us imagine if they didnt make the sequels and we got other movies in their place. the writers and actors and effects could be the same, but the canon would be larger.
>>
I guess now I know why it is called the Wall. They really do all hit it hard at 30. Imagine looking glowing and pretty at 24, which is already a blessing for an actress as most look manly by 21.
There is no way this movie was released in 2018. Tubi says 2020 but google says 2018. Actress looks 20. Or she has good genes.
She is 31 today and looks really old.

A Violent Nature sucked ass. The acting was WORSE than any of the bad acting you could single out from a Friday sequel, and the killer was just a rip off of Jason in the first place.
>Do you see my point?
Your point is that instead of making a Friday the 13th sequel, where things actually carry over from previous movies, they should've cut the series short and starting ripping themselves off with worse versions of Jason but also more gimmicky camerawork, I guess.

Today's movie was 1408 and I'm going to say what I believe is the theatrical ending is the best ending where mike survives but his daughter's voice is caught on tape and revealed to his wife showing his experience was real. i also interpret this as him not destroying the room or "beating" it but merely surviving it

okay, i think we are definitely talking past eachother here. i apologize if i have offended you, and i didnt mean to make you angry.
> the killer was just a rip off of Jason in the first place.
thats why i selected him. hes got a cool mask and the hook is a cool weapon. im not saying in a violent nature is as good of a film, nor better than the jason series. im not trying to make quality judgements at all here about the movies. but i do like the design of Johnny and i hope they use it again and do a sequel to violent nature, but with more camp, as is tradition. modern day slashers can take a whole lot out of the playbook of the 80s without losing freshness. I think Art the Clown is another example of a good, fresh, design.
>where things actually carry over from previous movies,
i specifically outlined a three part series which has continuity between films. ive never indicated im simply against sequels, ive indicated that perhaps the excess of sequels isnt necessary.
>they should've cut the series short and starting ripping themselves off with worse versions of Jason but also more gimmicky camerawork, I guess.
thats what friday the thirteenth literally is. its quite literally a copycat ripoff of halloween, as admitted by the writers, including even copycat deaths! but i feel that that is a disingenuous read of what my point is. my point, as explicitly as i can make it, is that i think that the reason the same design was used over and over (12 times in the jason main line) has more to do with studios predicting the profitability of a film and less to do with the sequel being necessarily part of the franchise it falls into.

it's not even that he is goofy, its that he isnt scary or menacing. even when lugosi smiles, it has some sort of menacing aura to it. so far so good though, there is good and bad in both and if they were to be fused together by a freak accident, you'd probably have the perfect dracula film. the stagecoach driver being actually disguised was good and he looked way cooler that way.

>thats what friday the thirteenth literally is. its quite literally a copycat ripoff of halloween,
You understand they said that about the first movie, which tonally is nothing like any of the sequels, right?
And Friday ended up being a consistently better series in comparison to Halloween.
Are you reading this shit off wikipedia, and you haven't seen any of these movies except A Violent Nature? Which again, sucked ass. And the mask in that movie looked stupid as hell.
>I specifically outlined a three part series
Why?
Why are you so obsessed with limiting a series to a trilogy? Because of Star Wars or something?
3 isn't some magic number that automatically works better than 4, or 2 or 6 or 10.
You just diametrically opposed to specifically any series that has more than 3 movies and your "solution" to this "problem" is to not make A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: the Dream Master, but rather ... Nightmare Claws about a guy who kills you in your dreams with a blade attached to his hand, but it should (according to you) have the same actors, plot, and writing as Nightmare 5, but absolutely no Freddy, and even according to you, the returning characters should be the same characters, but it should just specifically be a different killer who also isn't different in any functional or tonal way, it's just that he'd be Reggie instead of Freddy
