>Pearl (2022) Girl with Bad Person Disorder (BPD) goes untreated, goes insane. Taking place during the end of WW1 and the beginning of the spanish flu pandemic, this movie wants to engage in the culture of secrets, shame, and stigma surrounding mental disorders.Mental illness carries with it a pressure to keep it hidden. Pearl is very likely a person with Borderline Personality Disorder, which is one of the more stigmatized mental disorders that affects people. Sterotypically a 'womans disease,' BPD is associated with the sudden flip of extreme emotions and black and white thinking. There's a nuanced relationship w/ blame that can be described: on one hand, a person with a disorder is indeed the one taking the action, is who holds responsibility. but on the other, these actions are strongly influenced by illness, which offers a sort of 'excuse.' Consider the schizo who kills someone they presume to be a danger. This is, from their point of view, self defense. But of course they are still responsible for murder of some kind. There is an incommensurability here, with experience and action, and the discordance is caused by the mental illness. One we should hide. The point being made is almost hilarious, she lies undiagnosed and thus suffers and causes suffering, a diagnosis might offer her help. There is almost a suggested foucaultian surveillance of mental illness here. Pearl is a fucked up individual, people like her should be identified and 'treated.' The pandemic is causing people to cover their face and conceal identity. The films retort: "its hard to know who anyone is nowadays with all these masks" Read: people ought to be upfront and plainly visible about their mental illness. They should not hide it. Mia Goth did a great job here, putting her all into the performance. Her monologue is pretty damn good, and she worked well converying a range of subtle emotions. Honestly, i think shes got what it takes to be a scream queen in this new era of slashers.

Some spic countries such as Mexico had to remove the characters from the Fanta horror collab due to retarded laws about not having any character on packages that might attract children to non healthy food, in Mexico the package looks like this, one of the countries that bypassed the law is Chile where Freddy and Chucky show up in the Diet Fanta, no idea if Diet Fanta is even a thing in most of the World

Watch Friday the 13th part 2 (1981)
Worst movie on this Walmart "Horror Movie" pack?
1/2Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983) -- It’s Worth a Watch, especially for fans of the novel, to marvel at those parts that are absolutely perfect . . . and be shocked at the sections that are so clumsily, incoherently *off*. In a small Illinois town in the 1930s, it’s deep, lovely Autumn. Two boys, Tom Holloway and Jim Nightshade, are the very best of friends; Tom is the straight-laced one, and Jim is the rowdier boy, a big-fibbing adventure kid from a broken home. Together with Tom’s elderly father, they fight the evil of Coogar and Dark’s Pandemonium Show: a mystical traveling carnival that sucks the hopes and dreams from people by granting *twisted* Monkey’s Paw wishes. The beginning narration and imagery, which are straight from the novel, are beautiful, setting just the right tone of simple, small-town life amid the changing leaves. A good chunk of the middle, involving the fight against the Dust Witch, unfortunately feels very fragmented and sometimes *incoherent*. Why is the Dust Witch both dust-themed AND ice-themed? *Why* is she the dusky and beautiful Foxy Brown (literally!), instead of a dusty, leathery zombie in a moldy hot air balloon? Why does she only pursue the boys -- such a big, important task for the evil ones -- as CHEAPLY animated green mist, giving up after a half-assed dump of tarantulas in Tom’s bedroom? Many scenes are not even mangled, but left out entirely, which creates continuity issues. So even if a viewer *hasn’t* read the book . . . I imagine they’ll be scratching their head at the plot of the movie.
Aunt Martha was right
>>2151451542/2Jonathan Pryce, however, is consistently *excellent* as the top hatted MISTER DARK, the story’s Little Satan, and the simmering evil he exudes in the town library while teasing Tom’s father about his age -- and his bad heart -- may be the best part of the entire film. What a performance! The ending lapses into incoherence again, with lucky bolts of GOD lightning saving the day more than any act of heroism -- but we do get to see Mister Dark’s AWESOME evil carousel one last time! Going forwards on it ages you, and riding backwards on it makes you young. For people who saw the movie even *decades* ago, the CAROUSEL tends to be what they remember most. (If someone were interested in this at all, I would recommend they read Bradbury’s short, classic novel first. The film will not give an altogether glowing first impression.)

Just finished Bring Her Back. Holy shit, I feel like I've seen that exact movie multiple time. It was nothing special, yet, I keep seeing motherfuckers calling it the movie of the year. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, but it definitely had some issues in the writing department (like the characters making the dumbest decisions, like, shit that nobody in real life would do). I've so far been unimpressed by both of the Philippou brothers movies. I'm glad they're finding success in the film industry, especially considering we're from the same city and I watched them on YouTube a lot when I was younger, but still.

Another 3 movies in the books:>VHS HalloweenHow can you call it VHS when most aren't even shot on VHS? Even some past entries weren't. Misleading as all fuck. Anyway, thought most segments were good enough. The 2nd segment with the girls trick or treating was okay, but also stupid. The first time they talk about needing to get out, they're in a room with chairs and toys that could easily break glass, but don't do shit. The kid abduction segment was probably my favorite. Take note, never hire blacks. Hated the son in the haunted house segment. Dad should have beat the shit out of him for being disrespectful.>Strange HarvestReally enjoyed this one. >>215142086Wokeslop, but it's so stupidly and entertainingly over the top it doesn't matter.
Would you really die from a metal bucket falling on your head, like in Carrie and the remake? I just don't buy it. Concussion and maybe a laceration, sure, but not dying.
>>215147068he's the best, I'd top him
>>215147279In the book there is point made about how the bucket holding the blood is a thick metal bucket that was very heavy so theoretically it falling from that height directly onto someone's head would kill or severely injure them

>>215142260https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBCLoeWM3C8James covered this idea in a video
Cure (1997) – At first I thought it was only a Worth a Watch, but upon deeper consideration of certain themes and plot elements, which I did *not* understand upon first viewing, I deem it no less than EXCELLENT. A police procedural with a supernatural tinge, Cure involves inspector Takabe investigating a string of ritual murders, in which the various killers symbolically ERASE a person that bothers them -- even if it’s their own spouse -- by gashing a big X into the victim’s neck and upper chest, severing both carotid arteries. The murderers don’t know one another, and the ONLY possible lead is a wandering amnesiac named Mamiya.Mesmerism, psychic infection -- these are the major themes (like in the later Ringu), along with the transformative or CURATIVE potential of psychiatric medicine. “You’ve got too many bottled-up emotions, too much trauma!” therapists are wont to say. “What we need to do is LET IT ALL OUT.” Yet becoming “karappo” or *empty*, as one character says he is, putting all your inner nastiness and willful instinct OUTSIDE, may not be the greatest thing in the world. (Though it may feel liberating in the moment, to be sure!) In keeping with the mesmeric theme, we have an aural background mostly composed of thrumming first-world systems like air conditioners, and the lulling *buzz* of electricity. It’s actually hypnotic! The action is plainly framed, almost as *quiet* in a visual sense as the sound, until some noise of violence shatters the peace. (I don’t care for J-Horror like Audition, in which there is no real explanation, and no sense looking for one -- only what YOU want to see. I think encountering films like that made me prone to not thinking *deeply* enough here, and initially dismissing this movie as a lesser one.)
