I asked for chink horror threads ago and watched calamity of snakes which was insane so I looked for another on my own and came across hell has no boundaries which was insane for plot reasons than production. I don't want to spoil the ending, but the spirit of vengeful little girl possesses her reincarnation over ehat happened to her in the past. I don't shit about old china, but was selling your children to have their organs harvested and cooked as "goat meat" in markets a thing? I'm no Buddhism expert so I'm confused about how you possess you own reincarnation. Wouldn't your spirit already be in their body? That's what "reincarnation" means as I understand it. Though I think Buddhists believe there is no "self" so I don't know how reincarnation works if there isn't an immortal fundamental component of being.

nothing but shaky close ups

what a piece of shit rob zombie is when it comes to directing action.

and the Halloween movies are also EXTRA ruined by the absolute shit acting of Scout Taylor-Compton
the worst person he could have hired to play the lead. what an AWFUL performance

It's interesting to compare RZH2 with Halloween (2018) in their depiction of trauma. In H18 trauma makes you into a toughened gun toting badass that knows how to take care of shit unlike your soft family. In RZH2 trauma is completely devastating and poisons your life and all your relationships.

Romero's daughter has one coming out. The Soskas also did one in which the MC was Ben's descendant, which was the incredibly flimsy way of advertising it as NotLD-related.
>>

It feels weird to say this about a movie that features gratuitous dialogue about necrophilia and strippers getting massacred, but I feel like RZH2 has a really big heart. Almost every character gets their moment of genuine emotional reckoning.

his Halloween 1 has really interesting concepts of institutionalization and bullying

his dialogue is just fucking retarded.

Didn't know that, I watched some behind the scenes stuff and it's easy to forget how much work goes into every little element, like the costumes and sets and everything. I don't know where rob zombie was talking (Joe Rogan or something) and he said he started to properly working on the story 5 years officially, but it was his dream project and he wanted to do it since he began filmmaking. he wanted to do that movie 20 years ago.

also they had to film during covid which is why it feels so bare bones. why it barely has any characters.

I also like it. it was funny and charming in a way.

the only time I've seen rob zombie angry, legitimately angry was in the behind the scenes filming of this movie. they were filming some scenes and he yells "ITS NOT GONNA GET ANY BETTER JUST ROLL WITH IT"
apparently the crew also didn't speak English if remember correctly

the first ones are also great, naturally, I think the two are very comparable to Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 - the first is darker, creepier, dark humour, spooky, whereas the latter are more comedic, more action, brighter settings

The Vampire Doll by Michio Yamamoto is a cool Japanese gothic vampire movie (Yamamoto did 2 followups with Dracula too)
Bay of Blood by Mario Bava is a proto-slasher that was clearly the blueprint for Friday the 13th
Horror Express is a fun ripoff of The Thing’s original novella set on a train with Cushing, Lee and Savalas
Death Game, the original noooo don’t suck my cock
God Told Me To, sort of like a proto-Cure but completely skitzo in its resolution

The 70s is my fav period for /hor/ so there are a lot of cool ones.

BASED. Brad Dourif finding his dead daughter is the most emotional scene in the franchise for me. Rob was the only director that actually cared about his characters (which is funny because the most loud complaint is that he made a lot of hateable characters like the stepdad and the necrophiliac ambulance guy). It’s the same empathy that makes The Devil’s Rejects so effective. His ability to make people empathetic and also to make people reprehensible makes you like the deranged killers but hate the cop, who seems even worse than them after a certain point…

>>215165696
Astute and true. They’re both two of my favourite movies ever. Rob said in a reddit Q and A that he hadn’t seen Twin Peaks but like come on… The opening of the movie is highly reminiscent of Ronette walking down the train tracks for me.

I've only watched a handful of horror movies in my life, but I fired up Tubi and watched the first Hellraiser yesterday. There was certainly less screen time dedicated to the Cenobites than I anticipated, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Clare Higgins was a total smokeshow, as much as a murderous necrophiliac corpo mommy can be.

Pontypool (2008) – A very strong Worth a Watch, in which the slippery tongued Stephen McHattie (an actor with many Willem Dafoe-ish qualities), portrays a provocative radio jock relegated to a station in a snow-blanketed Ontario backwater after losing some *cushier* job. There are only two settings: the interior of the station, and the blinding blizzard outside, which we only catch snatches of. The movie would fall apart, and it would be boring -- which it NEVER is -- were it not for the constant torrent of fun, *fast-rattling* dialog that sketches broader events in the mind’s eye: there is a zombie infection going around that spreads, not by virus or bacteria, but by INFORMATION. Certain words in the English language are infected, and upon *understanding* the meaning of these compromised words, susceptible individuals start mindlessly parroting phrases and *sounds* around them, then look for victims to kill OR zombify . . . which are apparently mutually exclusive? Sometimes, according to the information we receive, they chew *through* people as if looking for something -- and sometimes they suicide and infect people in some nebulous way. The mechanics of the infection are a little jumbled, but going from the tone of the movie, perhaps they’re meant to be. At any rate, this facet is *unsatisfying* enough that Pontypool doesn’t quite reach Excellent. (There are certainly comedic elements, yet the zombie plague is truly terrifying in both implication and portrayal. With the limited setting and dialog focus, this would make a great stage play.)

Started my watch through of the Paranormal Activity series. Turns out I have seen the first 3 before and it came back to me during my watch. Going in chronological order, because why not? Only affects the first 3 I believe. Anyway, here's what I watched this morning:

>Paranormal Activity 3
This I enjoyed more than 2, although a movie set in 1988 being shot on VHS tapes seems weird, since it's in 16:9 widescreen and the image is very clear. The performances by the kid not being total dog shit is shocking. The movie overall and especially the ending was pretty good.
>Paranormal Activity 2
I liked it, except for the dad being the stereotypical doubter that dooms everyone in the end. Really, what a fucking retard. Dog and daughter are both great. Having all three women in bikinis at one point was great, the director knew what the people wanted. As I said, not as good as 3, but still enjoyed it. Maybe I was sleeping on this series. Hope the rest are good too.
>Vampire Night
It takes half the runtime to amount to anything and then it's just not enough. There's a good scene here and there, but I wouldn't watch it again. If you absolutely need a new Vampire movie, give it a watch.

Basado. Rob is basically a /hor/fag who got money to fund his witches, goblins, ghosties and ghouls obsession. The Munsters was him doing pop up mall Halloween store core. I guess he disappointed people because they wanted an edgy Wednesday style update to the Munsters but he refused. I wouldn't have wanted to see it done in the style of his previous movies. People will always be wildly differing on what VHS segments they like or hate. It's like asking people to rank Tarantino movies. Personally, Halloween was the first one I liked start to finish. I loved Bates Motel's twist on the story, where Norma is an overprotective coddling mom instead of a shrill, evil woman who beats him and sexually humiliates him like in Psycho IV. Badly mismanaging your child's burgeoning mental illness is a much more tragic story than being so evil you singlehandedly caused it.

The Craft (1997) – In this solid Worth a Watch, a coven of would-be teen witches achieve *actual* power when a fourth, more innately talented girl comes to L.A. and joins their circle. Part high school drama from the era *just before* kids all fell into their cell phones, part teen girl POWER FANTASY with a horror twist, it’s a slow-paced film with mostly polished parts. Sexy Fairuza Balk warps her big, rubbery mouth with maniacal glee as Nancy -- her wicked twisting of her magic constituting much of the film’s interest. All around, there’s considerable exploration of the old adage: “power corrupts.” Balk’s Nancy turns violent when it’s in her power to harm and get *away* with it; Neve Campbell’s Bonnie aspires to be a turboslut when her back scars are healed. Robin Tunney’s protagonist Sarah, though, is one of the less interesting characters -- competently portrayed, but boring. So is Rachel True’s Rochelle, who just goes along with WHATEVER. Hers is a real-life personality type, but dull on film, even more because Rochelle is the only one whose home life we never glimpse, whose parents we never see.

One thing that always struck me as bizarre and a little ill-fitting, even back when I saw a fragment of The Craft as a teenager: In the early part of the movie, the four girls witness a harmless, snake-handling bum get fatally run over by a car; every one of them, even Mary Sue SUPERWITCH Sarah, cackles with glee while considering that perhaps they, in fact, *willed* this to happen. Certainly, we could assume that Sarah, being blessed with all this elemental power, might be a bit *emotionless* as a side-affect . . . yet she weeps and wails when others are later harmed by her circle’s magic. The bum is noticeably absent from a tally of evils she recites toward the end . . .
