Valentine was okay, not great, I can see why I didn't remember anything about it. Didn't annoy me, got up to piss and get a drink in the middle of it and didnt feel like i missed anything. Definitely a film made in Scream's wake even if it was 5 years later so it has a giallo-lite feeling where the kills are mostly grounded but the camerawork and lighting is a lot more elaborate. 2/5

Can you help me figure out the name of a movie? It was like, a couple who lived in a high rise apartment building and they had young children. The genre was kind of like an alien invasion situation but if I remember correctly the twist was something like the "aliens" were actually normal humans and the protagonists trying to escape from the "invasion" were actually androids, and the entire planet was full of them. Anyway this movie was memorable because the kids in the movie were so fucking infuriating. Whenever it was time to hide they ran around and screamed and cried and put everyone in peril and this happened throughout basically the whole movie. It was so crazy I went to check imdb after and basically every single comment was complaining about the kids. Reading through them was more enjoyable than the movie itself. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I don't typically watch horror movies, but I've been going through a few of old ones recently and I thought I'd drop an objective ratings list.

>A Nightmare on Elm Street
Campy yet enjoyable watch
solid 7/10
>A Nightmare on Elm Street 2
Dull and homoerotic, wouldn't watch it again but I liked seeing Freddy again.
4/10
>A Nightmare on Elm Street 3
It was nice seeing some of the OG cast, but the movie was a bit of a drag until like the last 20 minutes.
6/10 and a point of that is for Heather Langenkamp being cute
>The Evil Dead
Some neat ideas but such amateur execution and camp in a bad way, another I'll never watch again.
3/10
>Evil Dead 2
Now this one was pretty fun and the intro almost made watching the original worth while. Bruce Campbell learned how to act a bit in between films which was nice, and the special effects don't look like dogshit anymore. Quality went down a little when the rest of the cast showed up however.
8/10

What should I watch next after Army of Darkness? I'd prefer some more 80s stuff.

You're about to witness unabashed kino. Novel is even better. One of my favorite scenes:

> Rex: "So, how's Simon?"

> Rex: "Oh, they can't be that bad."
> de Richleu: "No, my friend. These people are of the sort that are most.... concerning."
> *Rex snorts*

I've been working my way through the Halloween franchise slowly. Why do people say the Halloween franchise is boring compared to the other big slasher franchises? It's largely garbage, sure, but boring? Far from it. It's almost never boring.
>First movie is legendary
>Sequel is good
>Third is great and unique
>Fifth is fun schlock
>Sixth is so ridiculously fucking stupid and absurd it's unbelievable
The only film you could really call boring is the fourth and even then it's serviceable-ish. I haven't watched the rest of the movies yet, but I think I've seen enough to confirm there's hardly ever a dull moment.

>>
>>215270017
>implying kubrick didn't want you to laugh at this scene

>>
>>215269143
The original NOES is a 10/10 and Dream Warriors is an 8.5/10 and doesn't drag at all but I forgive you for having a dogshit opinion.
>>
>>215270004
Curse is such a mess it becomes dreamlike. Like they're in a disturbing nightmare. There's no authority, the hospitals are empty of life apart from evil psychos. It's like they're living after the rapture, or in a horror videogame.
>>
>>215270004
Probably just in comparison to the other two of the big three. The series lacks Jason’s creative kills or Freddy’s charm and personality.
>>
>>215268739
I've got a lot more to watch but so far I'd recommend:
> The Old Dark House
> The Red House
> White Zombie
> The Cat and the Canary
> Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
>>
>>215269630
this was a weird one, it has some fun concepts but tying all of them feels messy
his other movie is better
>>
>>215270107
I definitely get Elm Street because that's a fun series overall, but I honestly think the Halloween franchise is less dull than F13th and I say that as someone who likes the F13th series. Jason only really has a handful of creative kills in the entire series and the franchise never quite reaches the level of dumbfounding absurdity that Halloween does until Jason X when it becomes completely farcical. Even Jason Goes to Hell, for me, is more restrained than Curse of Michael Myers.
>>
>>215269741
Hiruko the Goblin is a fun-horror kino.
I think I'll watch it again this Saturday...

Sure:

> Creepshow

> Halloween IV
> Halloween V

Phantasm was even more kino than I remember it. Watching good quality versions of these movies I think is the reason I'm enjoying them more on a rewatch. Either that, or I have watched so many terrible films now that I can appreciate them more.

There are lots of great touches in this that make it dreamlike. One that stood out is when Mike is in bed, and it pans out and the Tall Man is standing over him and he's mauled by the dwarfs. It telegraphs that it's a nightmare, but unlike other films it doesn't have a "wake up" scene. It just continues to the next one, and when Mike appears again that's when you get the delayed confirmation it must have been a nightmare.

What a hilarious movie, especially the such stark contrast between the wooden performances of D'Alessandro and the guy who plays his friend and the very over the top theatrical performances of Kier and Van Vooren. The ending is so delightfully absurd and over dramatic that it had me yelling kino. Also laughed my ass off at the scene where they want the male zombie to fuck the zombie lady but he won't get hard because they made him with the head of a faggot.

Gonna watch Blood For Dracula tomorrow.

The theme is very hypnotic. It repeats so often that you start to assign other notes as the start of the melody so it sounds different. Really adds to the overall dreamlike quality of the movie. The scene where the Tall Man walks by the icecream truck is like something out of a nightmare despite happening in broad daylight. Fairly atypical idea like the other scene you mentioned.
