Death to Worf haters EditionPreviously on /trek/: >>215569702
>>215592034how did worf impale duras with the tip of the bat'leth, when the blow that killed him was an overhead chop, not a stab?
>>215592068The same way this works
I hate how the TNG remaster makes everything pink.
>>215592168The Visitor is such a good ep. Rip Tony Todd
Finished Star Trek Enterprise last weekend, and I found the finale to be very unsatisfying. I liked the show, though. Gon' miss those little guys. The bad thing is that I've now seen all Star Trek series from the 20th century. Should I bother with series from the new milenium?
Can somebody photoshop this into Neelix?
>>215592254no. ent is the end. the first jj movie would've been ok if not for the squeals and beasty boys. maybe prelude to axanar and some of those fan things https://youtu.be/1W1_8IV8uhAstart over at tos

>>215592237I watched one of the most recent movies he was in the other day and Jeffrey Combs was also in it. I pointed at the screen saying "Star Trek" when I saw them in the beginning credits lol
Did it, watched all of TNG in 172 days and now I no longer wish to see Patrick Stewart's bald ass head
>>215592559what will you watch next?
>>215592559You didnt watch the tng movies right...?
>>215592168>Doing a proper watchthrough of ToS right now, haven't got to this episode yet>Terrible episode, but tummy. Also Worf uses the replicator to make actual alcohol, which seems to have been retconned in later episodes.>Kino>Decent>This episode really made me hate everyone on ENT except Trip.
>>215592620no just a passing nutrek writer
>>215592308>Anti-contact>Non-offending>Neelix
>>215592596Something other than ST for the moment, going to do the movies but I need a break from Starfleet. Probably will do Enterprise then Voyager to finish it all though.>>215592620I've actually seen them all before so I know what I'm getting into. I remember being hyped for First Contact in theaters & less hyped for Insurrection, didn't see Nemesis at all when it came out.
>>215592714>Also Worf uses the replicator to make actual alcohol, which seems to have been retconned in later episodes.that also happens in early tng ep where they revive the people from the 20th century, data uses the replicator to mix the guy a drink and he says its one of the best he's ever had. even though data served scotty synthale in the one ep the replicator should have been fully capable of giving him a good drink before they busted into guinan's stash
I'm not drinking coffee from a replicator. Beans? Maybe. A cup? Fuck no.
>>215592838I'd replicate the cherries, roast the beans myself, would make sure I'd get the true experience with smell, taste, oils, the whole shebang. Then I'd whip out my Hario V60 to impress them all.

>>215593207they eventually produced a whole bunch of short eps. they were ok. the format loses its luster quickly, the interview part. it works well for the short film but thats not enough to keep it interesting over the long term. its still bettter than any nutrek shit since at least some effort went into it
every orifice
>>215593420why did they have that episode where he fucked that random lady that had amnesia?
>>215592168That such a generic synopsis for tonight's TNG that it could be a dozen different episodes.

>>215592168>>215593752Just tell me if its the episode where the one planet sells space heroin to the other or not
>>215592168Archer was right and Trip was wrong, interfering with other cultures is cringe.
>>215593778its not
>>215593778No thats Symbiosis. This is the one with the old timey irish colony that has to re merge with their sister colony that is now all clones.Riker offers to wash a womans feet and then kills his own clone
>>215593822This is the episode capsule we actually need.
>>215593809Their culture was shit, claiming to be enlightened while basically practicing chattel slavery. I was glad that asshole engineer who started seething when he was told that slavery was wrong didn't get to reproduce.
>>215593896like these days where we claim to be so enlightened but want hoards of brown people to use as slave labor
>>215592082Delete this
Archer wasn't even really upset about Trip interfering on principle.he was literally so fucking mad because of the fact that they wouldn't be able to use the slave to get knocked up anymore. It's so absurd it's fucking funny. This is your fabled Starfleet captain, paragon of human values.
>>215593721All forms better than pussy ass Earl Grey tea. Picard really does have poofter ass taste, I think I'm actually starting to dislike him.

>>215594492>Archer wasn't even really upset about Trip interfering on principle.I see just the opposite.
>>215594816i dunno maybe I'm misremembering or something but what sticks out in my mind about the scene is Archer being like>NOW THEY WONT BE ABLE TO HAVE A BABY, TRIP. ITS LIKE YOU BASICALLY KILLED 2 PEOPLE DID YOU EVER THINK ABOUT THAT, HUH TRIP????
>>215593896>>215594261Slavery is still practiced all around the world. The fact that you seem not to know this indicates the severity of your lack of education.
>>215594894i literally just said that you faggot
>>215592082A good time was had by all
>>215594894Yes, and if an alien questioned me about it I wouldn't try to defend it saying they don't understand human culture.
If a species wants to practice slavery its their right, the universe is big enough, we don't have to interact with them.
>>215595163I want to practice slavery with Queen Arachnia
>>215594492what you are describing is at odds with what you are saying
Another excellent Tony Todd role with the line that I must recite every Thanksgiving.
>>215592228>I hate how the TNG remaster makes everything pink.It has weird color grading but still the best way to watch the show. Paramount went above and beyond with the restoration. DS9 and VOY didn't get 1% the love TNG did.
Currently watching s2e4 Mirror, MirrorGood one. This episode and The City on the Edge of Forever now I see where Sliders got its inspiration from
>>215595000No, you didn't.How fat are you, anyway?
>>215594742Every year since the release of the smartphone has been worse than the last. We need to return to ending calls with the crisp clack of a shutting flip phone.
>>215592228>>215595574Think all the beige & pastel colored furniture kind of creates a washed out effect that is almost impossible to get out without being lit correctly. I don't give them fault for not filming for my 4K screen.
>>215595163All space slavers deserve xenocide. If you're warp capable and still too retarded to automate, you're clearly a failed genetic line.
>>215595574They would have, but DS9 and VOY especially didn't have film masters to reprocess. When LLMs are more advanced, I'm sure they'll do it again for both of them and it'll be closer to the TNG one.
>>215594861The episode established that the progenitor was a biological necessity for their species to procreate. It was wrong for Trip to interfere in the way he did, encouraging the progenitor to rebel against its biological role.
I've never heard of anyone hating worf
>>215595787His son sure did.
>>215595766>but DS9 and VOY especially didn't have film masters to reprocessYes they do, they were filmed on 35mm film but edited on video tape just like TNG was.
>>215595766Oh the masters exist, they're safely in limestone caves in middle America.
I just noticed in the intro of Enterpise they start with>it's been a long roadShowing the Caucasus mountains, Baikal lake>getting from there to hereShowing the American continent on the horizonThe whole intro is like an hommage to white people
>>215595732>and still too retarded to automateHuman brains use, on average, 12 watts of power, versus data centers, to do the same task. It's simply more energy efficient to use slavery, which means you can get more done with slaves than with automation. >b-b-but muh kardashevThe point stands. With a sun's entire energy, you can get more done with slaves than with automation. >b-b-but slavery is immoralSo are most byproducts of civilization. Deal with it.

>>215593822>Riker offers to wash a womans feet and then kills his own cloneIf I had a nickel for every time Riker met a clone of himself, I'd have two nickels! Which isn't a lot of money, but it's still weird that it happened twice

Why did the federation sign such a retarded treaty, cloaking is way too useful.I stand with Pressman!
>>215595935“Efficiency” is for the impoverished. Those seeking to “make do” with what they have, or worse, trying to buy low and sell high.
>>215597307It'd be kind of like in the 50s if we just said "Alright, the USSR can have all the nuclear submarines. We promise not to make any."
>>215597292>Homosexniggers are the gayest race on earth>CommunismJews>DS9 (not a compliment)Jews>Feminismalso Jews>Indiayeah okay, fucking Anglos giving them railroads and sewer systems instead of what they deserved
>>215597307Every Star Trek treaty is disproportionately in favor of the aggressors so they’ll fuck off and let the federation get back to exploring. Then several generations down the line, when the federation has expanded its scope and membership and is now even more technologically advanced than the old aggressors, ideally completely surrounding their space, the aggressors can either start a war they can’t win or join the federation.
>>215597384Feds are like children, if the Federation were real it would get taken over by conniving aliens, just like the US has been
>>215596764Never heard of her.
>>215597307it was probably inspired by how Japan and Germany were forbidden from owning Nukes despite being easily capable of creating them

>>215597292>Whiteys invented:You misspelled "everything".
>>215597556Giving an aggressor more than they can handle to distract them from aggression has been a common tactic in history.
>>215597384it was always that way for story reasons. man i'd love to see an aggressive starfleet. a proper section 31 involving themselves in all sorts of stuff, assassinating people. i said the same about star wars years ago - i'm sick of rebels, show me a competent sith or empire commander driving through systems like patton. that would be so refreshing to see

I’m watching TNG on BD right now and the sound is equally kino. I don’t believe it ever sounded this good on broadcast, especially in SD. I recommend either a good sound system or headphones to really get the most out of the series.
>>215598442so what? thats how its shown up until the 'rebellion' shows up. 19 movies about rebellions, yet none about a competent commander doing their job to show us how the empire got to the point its at>>215598528early tng has way better sound and music direction than later
>>215598333he murdered a crewman for fun i don't think that constitutes "did nothing wrong"

>>215598725what do you mean?
>>215598741when the lady founder was hanging out with odo for the first time odo was asked her how many changelings there are.she told him there are many and one. when she leaves the link the ocean becomes the drop. when she joins the link the drop becomes the ocean. for this to hold true it doesnt matter if you kill one. its just a drop in the ocean. nothing is lost. nothing can be lost unless everything is lost.
>>215598071I like how the collage has a mix of genuine evil doers and characters the fans just find annoying.
>>215599258She was just being evasive and giving a non-answer as usual.Fact is, if the changelings and the link really functioned like that, they'd be The Borg and would have basically zero individuality. They would all contain the others. But they very clearly are just a collection of individuals which is what allows for separation and indeed, deviation.
>>215599258>for this to hold true it doesnt matter if you kill oneit holds true even if it does matter so, no.
>>215599258>but what is an ocean, if not a multitude of drops? Also the vorlons from Babylon 5 also did this hivemind but also individuals concept (as ds9 was a ripoff) where one of them dying permanently changed all the rest. Like having a portion of your brain removed.

>>215592082Why did they even need to do this?

Watched the Bajoirian space sail ship 'sode. Couple days ago. It's funny how Sisko says something like: 'I built it an exact replica to plans. Except, I added grav plating. I hate weightlessness'. Like, the writers thought nerds would nitpick that part. That they should be floating. When the obvious question I had was, how did the even get that wooden ship into space? Let alone break orbit. How are they breathing? A dozen more questions. It's funny that they picked just that one to handwave an answer for. And it fits that Trek trope. Where, no matter how bad things get. Grav plating is the last system to go down. The bulkheads could be exploding and shower the bridgecrew with sparks and rocks. But, they will be standing on their feet. Because stuntman wire work is too much money. Also, about 'Explorers' s03e22. I thought I remembered that most of the father/son bonding happened in the BUILDING of the ship. But Jake didn't help at all. Sisko did all that in like a 30sec montage. And it was nice of the Cardassians to immediately admit there was archaeological evidence of Bajorian spaceships as soon as Ben proved it was possible.
>>215592168My Halloween hypothetical lineup:TOS 'Catspaw', TNG 'Schisms', DS9 'Empok Nor', VOY 'The Thaw', ENT 'Impulse'.

With lot lizards. Literal lizards. Gorn in skanky outfits. So it's like Risa. But worse in every way. The show will sort of be like Elton John's Rocket Man. How it's set in a sci-fi future. Where being an astronaut flying a rocket ship to Mars is just a job. Workaday. Like, he's just a truck driver going to Mars. 'And all the science, I don't understand. It's just my job five days a week'. And, as a fun little nod to ENT. And use an inexplicably odd theme song. Star Trek: Travis should use the Shatner spoken word cover of Rocket Man as its theme.

>>215611493Reminder that Worf fucked a buttslug
>>215612234Do did Beverly. She fucked a worm that was possessing her ship's First Officer. And then they went on like nothing happened. It's still one of the most bizarre TNG episodes.
>>215612404she didnt fuck riker
>>215612404Tbf she fucked the worm before it possessed Riker and she shut it down when Riker-worm tried to bone her. Same when replacement chick-worm tried to get her to munch carpet. She didn’t know what she was getting into, Worf knew full well that he was fucking Kurzon and any other number of male hosts rolled into the worm. Trill are gross
>>215612471>>215612495Huh. I remember Troi convincing her to fuck RikerWorm but it's been a while and I'm due for a rewatch.
>>215612519She wouldn’t fuck him, but logically Riker post worm knows what her coochie feels like
>>215612495>>215612519>>215612856The Trill on DS9 are still ass but at least they're so much better than TNG, they put it up Riker's BOX.
>>215613045its the same trill. they made up all that shit about the host being important so they could stay in the federation after there caste system was exposed.
>>215613045They try to be but they never quite pull it off. I’m tempted to blame Farrell but it’s a hard role, being able to sell a creature with several lifetimes of experience in a young body. Much as I like trek I can’t think of any actor on any of the shows that had the chops to pull that off over several seasons
>>215613108Jeffrey Combs pulled it off just fine
>>215613169I stand corrected, Jeff could’ve made it work, but it was a time before Shran’s sexiness so they had to settle for female eye candy. Shame really
>>215613249No I mean he actually did make it work. The Weyouns are all different but it's just underplayed compared to Dax's >WELL THIS REMINDS ME OF THAT ONE TIME WHEN I WAS TORIAS I ACCIDENTALLY SHARTED ON MY BALLS BECAUSE AS YOU GUYS KNOW I HAVE LIVED MANY LIVES AND SOME AS A MANshit
>>215613095>>215613108It's just an ass concept because the host just ends up being an individual sacrifice that is blended into the general life of the symbiote without true singular freedom of expression. It gets annoying after a while for both Dax's when you'd ask for their opinion & they'd come back with someone 6 lives ago. I DIDN'T ASK THEM.Just zero benefits to hosting the worm, other than perceived expanded lifespan but it's not your consciousness.
the p'tak is in
>>215613108>I’m tempted to blame Farrell but it’s a hard role, being able to sell a creature with several lifetimes of experience in a young body.Skill issue. Doctor Who actors were able to pull off being an ageless alien in a young human body

How generous. Aren't all the ales free?
>>215613965no. they still have some sort of money and they still need to pay luxuries. the difference is that people arent obsessed with money. its just a way to allocate scarce resources like human labor and malaysian beach houses.

>>215614345TOS is not TNG. There are no replicators in TOS, there's only a crude facsimile which is why they eat food cubes instead of replicated food and there's even a full kitchen on the movie Enterprise refit. There may've been some sort of energy credit type system during this time but it's never explicitly fleshed out.In TNG though, they specifically say multiple times in explicit terms that there is no money in the Federation.
>>215614345mudd was not a crewman aboard the enterprise in the tng era, nor was he even a federation citizen
>>215614405>There may've been some sort of energy credit type system during this time but it's never explicitly fleshed out.>In TNG though, they specifically say multiple times in explicit terms that there is no money in the Federation. In Gambit the four armed pianist explicitly told Riker she didn't accept federation credits.
>>215614405call it whatever you want. cadet sisko spent all his transporter credits going home for dinner. in all versions of star trek people are paid for their labor and people use the funds to buy luxuries.
>>215614522Could be a system exclusively for external trade but most likely writer error because that episode fucking sucks lol
>>215614529>transporter creditsThose weren't currency I don't think, unless you're able to transfer them. They just allot a certain amount of transporter use to each starfleet academy cadet.
>>215614535Sisko mentions wasting transporter credits as a cadet.
>>215614585they wouldnt need a credit system unless resources were scarce. if resources are scare you need money to allocate them because command economies and barter systems are ridiculously ineffecient. the real point is it doesnt really matter. money is not the driving force in peoples lives so all the problems with money have been eliminated. its just a universial medium for exchange. jews arent fucking everything up pushing paper around.
>>215614585Why? If there's truly no scarcity why would it matter?
>>215614671>>215614695>they wouldnt need a credit system unless resources were scarceOh, it's you. The guy that always argues this same retarded fucking point. But yes, there are reasons. One would be teaching students responsibility and limiting their travel to teach them discipline, you brainlet.
>The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in our lives. We work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity.>A lot has changed in the past 300 years. People are no longer obsessed with the accumulation of ‘things.’ We’ve eliminated hunger, want, the need for possessions.>It’s a strange thing, a hotel designed around a culture that had money and possessions.>Jake to Nog: Not for us!The Federation has no money!>Sisko: “Then use your latinum. Starfleet doesn’t use money.”>Kirk (to a 20th-century woman): “They’re still using money. We need to get some.”I'll take these references over offhand lines typically given by outside spec script writers.
>>215614715>PICARD: A very dangerous piece. Were you really going to give this to the Daystrom Institute?>VASH: Well, maybe not give it. Five years is a huge investment, Jean-Luc. I deserve to make a reasonable profit.shut the fuck up, retard. there is money. everything falls apart without it
>>215614852Vash is very clearly someone who works outside the Federation system. She is probably the worst example you could use. And the fact that the Institute has goods to trade for it implies nothing in your favor either.
>>215614819>The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in our lives. We work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity.no reference to money>A lot has changed in the past 300 years. People are no longer obsessed with the accumulation of ‘things.’ We’ve eliminated hunger, want, the need for possessions.no referenxe to money>It’s a strange thing, a hotel designed around a culture that had money and possessions.conflicts with the countless possessions owned by the crews of federation starships>Jake to Nog: Not for us!The Federation has no money!jake is a retard who doesnt know shit about fuck>Sisko: “Then use your latinum. Starfleet doesn’t use money.”cant find this quote anywhere but starfleet uses money all the time>Kirk (to a 20th-century woman): “They’re still using money. We need to get some.”he says that to the crew. and in this case he means they are still using physical money to put in an honor box to buy a newspaper. same with the exact change on the bus and when he tells the broad they dont use money to buy pizza.
>>215615021The Sisko quote is: >Nog: “You don’t understand, Captain! The Ferengi don’t have Starfleet credits. We have gold-pressed latinum!”>Sisko: “Then use your latinum. Starfleet doesn’t use money.”Pretty explicit.>he says that to the crewWrong, he says it to Gillian.>Gillian: “You don’t use money in the 23rd century?”>Kirk: "Well, we don't."Anyway, I accept your concession.
>>215614879>goods to tradevash doesnt want goods. goods are fucking worthless if you cant sell them. the federation institute pays money. this is econ101 shit. you cant handwaive it away by claiming every example of people using money is an exception. they still use money because there is still scarcity and money is the most effecient solution. THEY JUST ARENT OBSESSED WITH IT LIKE YOU
>>215615054>>Kirk (to a 20th-century woman): “They’re still using money. We need to get some.”i really hope youre nta, retard
>>215615065>goods are fucking worthless if you cant sell themWho says Vash can't sell them? She deals with non-Federation races typically, Ferengi, etc. Her whole character is the independent rogue who lives outside of the boundaries of Federation rules. Again, a terrible example on your part.>>215615082Take it up with Gene Roddenberry faggot>In the 24th century there will be no hunger, there will be no greed, and all the children will know how to read.Do you think Gene would care if some autist says "it all falls apart without money!!11" No, because Star Trek isn't about realistic world building and never has been you fucking dipshit.
>>215615107money was extremely prevalent under gene.>bet credits to navy beans>federation spent good money on our training>money I got>I just bought a boat>I would pay real money for him to shut upyou cant win. give up.
>>215615175>anon has never heard of turns of phrase or colloquialisms
>He thinks that when people say "[they'd] bet dollars to donuts", that they're being literalRetard fatigue
>>215615175Those are just turns of phrase. But anyway, that's a different guy entirely, 60s Gene. That was "grounded television writer" Gene Roddenberry, the guy who got TOS on the air and let other guys like Gene Coon do realistic worldbuilding for him. It's where we get the Prime Directive and a lot of Starfleet's hardline militarism. But that's not who made TNG or the TOS movies. The guy who made those was coked up sex addict cult leader 1970s Gene Roddenberry who started huffing his own farts and getting high on his own supply. He almost became a Jonestown type during these years, or Charles Manson, it's kind of a miracle he didn't.The concepts of TNG are way more high-minded than TOS by design and no money is one of those concepts whether you like it or not. Realistic? Grounded? Maybe not but that's not what Gene was trying to do with TNG and S1, for all its flaws, shows a lot of his utopian concepts in action before the stroke mushed his brain.
>>215615216Impossible. You can't bet credits navy beans if credits don't exist. It makes no sense
>>215615246such a phrase can only be turned if dollars exist. im getting bored
>>215615369one of the dumbest posts ive ever seen
>>215615410am i supposed to be impressed that you learned how to read today?
>>215615369No one has been hoisted by their own petard in hundreds of years, but people still use the phrase.
>>215615541No one has been hoisted by a petard ever. Petard means a fart.
>>215615798It's a grenade. You would hoist the grenade towards your enemies unless it blew up in your face, hoisting you by your own petard.
>>215615798petard means bomb, you doltto be hoisted by one's own petard means to have something PROVERBIALLY blow up in your face
>>215614819That’s Picard projecting his fantasy. Plenty of humans still like money in the 24th, the federation isn’t the boss of everyone
>>215615957we're talking about the federation specifically you phoneposting retard
>>215615970That’s an ad hominem, not an argument. Does the federation control Risa? Do the whores get paid in transporter credits? Ask your mom
>>215613965Probably because the Captain is giving permission for them to have some beers on duty
>>215616025>comes in at the end of a long conversation>doesn't know what the hell people are talking about>makes an assumption>it's wrong>...that's an ad hom!Are you fucking drunk?
>>215616050No, the other guy is correct regardless of how much text you post. They have money if for no other reason than to transact with non-federation types, they just dance around it, Picard’s grandstanding to some frozen primitives notwithstanding. You’re just dumb
>>215616098>the free love swingers planet totally has money my mom says so
>>215616098Nope. Whenever the Federation trades with an alien species, they exchange goods and resources directly. They don't give the Cardassians some money, they give them industrial replicators (member those ones the Maquis stole?). They trade dilithium. They trade technology (with warp capable species). They exchange cultural resources, sensor readings, etc.You are a brainlet who can't imagine a world without fiat currency.
>>215616231how do propose they ration the hotel suites and whores without money?
>>215616025The sluts on Risa are paid in sperm.
>>215616231Your mom may give it away for free, Risans aren’t so stupid >>215616234>I have no concept of history or trade between disparate cultures Alright, fine, they have no money just like Odo doesn’t obey the laws of mass conservation
test
>>215616234then why did they bid 1.5million credits for the Barzanian wormhole?
>>215616333They were planning on stiffing them and paying them in 1.5 million creds worth of stem bolts or sensor readings. It’s pointless trying to reason with the guy, he’s in lala land
>>215616360>be the federation>trade valuable commodities for gold-pressed latinum to use with species that use gold-pressed latinumit's not hard to figure out
>>215616360>1.5 million creds worth of stem bolts>worth
>>215616514>>215616516The point is that they not only explicitly reference federation credits, it’s necessary for it to exist in some fashion. Money can be simply regarded as a medium of exchange, it’s a lot easier than pricing things in jumja sticks or industrial replicators. Picard’s speech to the frozen industrialist was just him being a condescending prick, not a reflection of how things must necessarily work to transact economically. I’ll stop because it’s a fantasy universe anyway but really it’s just basic logic, whether it’s called creds, quatloos, latinum or dollarydoos
>>215616038non-alcoholic synthetic beers?
>>215616642thats what i was trying to say
>>215616689Cheers m8, this round’s on me
>>215616642If that was true why are they never mentioned again
>>215616989Because it’s a massive hole in the writing generally and Roddenberry was a dumb shit for pushing the notion in the first place: to say that people aren’t infatuated with it in the future is fine but to say it doesn’t exist at all logically makes no sense. Don’t worry about it
