I've got a three-month free Sirius trial with a new car that I just got, and I was listening to the late-90s/early-00s rock station (a lot of Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Korn, Disturbed, System of a Down, etc), and for Halloween, they had the Crypt Keeper on as a guest DJ (voiced by the original guy), I thought that was kind of cool.

Anyway, I'm re-reposting this list I made in another thread because I'm curious to see if you guys have any recommendations for a very specific type of subgenre. Namely, the ones involving a cast of characters being caught isolated in extreme circumstances, usually besieged by some malevolent force, and they have to figure out how to get out of it.

>Poseidon Adventure
>Romero's trilogy
>Zombi 2
>Return of the Living Dead
>Tremors
>Demons 1 and 2
>Tales from the Crypt Demon Knight
>Feast
>The Mist
>Cujo
>"The Raft" short story by Stephen King in Creepshow 2
>Alien
>Predator
>The Descent
>Dog Soldiers
>Splinter
>The Hills Have Eyes
>Escape from New York
>The Thing
>Evil Dead
>Pitch Black
>30 Days of Night
>Jaws (kind of)
>Jurassic Park
>Assault on Precinct 13
>The Warriors (kind of)

Stuff like that. I think I've exhausted the ones that I'm aware of.

Am I the only one who finds Eggers to be kind of mediocre as a writer? I've seen The VVitch, Northman, and Nosferatu and they all feel badly paced, with Northman and Nosferatu essentially feeling like slogs that look pretty

I've long said that Netherrealm Studio should make a Moral Kombat/Injustice fighting game with horror characters, and Crypt Keeper could be the announcer for it, and the "TOASTY!" bit from MK could be the Crypt Keeper laugh.

There was a time when WB owned the rights to like half those characters too through Newline.

Holy FUCK this sucked ass, do NOT bother. I kept on having flashbacks to watching the Castle Freak remake. I should have trusted my gut and stopped 10m in when the terrible CGI showed up.
I'm not even sure I'd call it a remake since the plot has nothing to do with the original. It's like they gave a random fat wiccan lady the word "Witchboard" and told her to write a script. Also no nudity.
Forget this exists and just watch the original.
>>
>>215644526
Wait, there was a brief side-tit scene of an extra but it was pointless but it was pointless. The original had a unique full frontal scene with a scare.

They apparently wanted to do a Freddy vs Jason vs Ash movie. Bruce Campbell claims he only had a short phone conversation with the studio and they wouldn't agree to let Ash win so he said no. Who knows.

Apparently Carpenter's original choice for Doctor Loomis was Peter Cushing because he envisaged him as a kind of modern version of the Hammer Professor Van Helsing. Unfortunately Halloween came just on the heels of Star Wars, so Carpenter couldn't match Cushing's wage demands and had to look elsewhere.

Would it have worked?

That is so stupid if true. Ash would clearly be the good guy in that scenario. He's one of the few iconic horror movie good guys. It's like him, Dr Loomis/Laurie Strode, and Van Helsing.

The original is a psychological horror thriller. The remake is horror.

I had a strange realization last night in my drunken stupor that modern horror fans can never truly experience the classics. They can never watch Child's Play blind and wonder if the doll is actually alive. They can never watch Friday the 13th for the first time, the can only watch "that dumb Jason movie that doesn't even have Jason in it". Us old fucks should be grateful that we came up in a golden age of horror without the internet to spoil everything for us a million times over.
>>

>>
>>215644820
>Ash would clearly be the good guy
yeah, that was pretty much what he said in the interview, but it sounded like they wanted a neutral ending (like FvJ where the winner isn't really clear). That lets the movie be a stand alone without effecting the cannon of any of the franchises.

Wanted to give VHS 85 another rewatch because I remember not liking it, and I was confused to find that some circles online rank it as their favorite or their second favorite of the series while also saying that "Fun Size" was their favorite segment of VHS Halloween, either because they love Adult Swim humor or because they legit think "it was intentionally bad, that's why its good!". I guess I walked away with some more appreciation for what it was trying to do, something at times more grounded like the first VHS, but I still don't understand what those people see in it at all outside of 80s aesthetics. These segments either peaked too early on like the first one with the chick that didnt die and had her jaw nearly torn apart, or they didn't have much creepy or unsettling elements beyond maybe the wraparound and the Dreamkill segment. Its just a shame because the 70s or 80s had tons of shit going on that should have provided the film makers with more inspiration, either in terms of more horrific real world events, or film trends like those extremely violent shot on video Japanese films.
At least it has a nice credits song in the form of Doppleganger, but its still heavily mogged by the other Shudder entries in the form of '94, Beyond, and Halloween.

Watching Snoodspiria for the Snoodillionth time and I just realised now that it was Suzy’s fault that Sara got killed, because she told Madame Blanc about what Pat was saying before she ran away from the school.

I guess I was too focused on Sara’s nipples during the pool scene all those times before… I only noticed that plot detail when I put on the Italian version and had to detach my “secret” “irises” from them to actually look at the subtitles and see what they were saying.
>>
>>215645433
Jason isn’t even implied to be the killer in 1 so it takes nothing away from the movie to know he’s not in it. He’s not revealed to be alive until the sequel.

I think I've only seen Creepshow and the Creep Tapes so far. Masters of Horror also, and X-Files obviously but it's peak comfiness I don't know if that counts
>>
>>215649302
Not really if I'm honest.
The Haunting of Hill House is one of the better ones, though I think it falls apart at the end.
You can watch the Senritsu series like a TV show and that's way better imo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWtN1vCiWO0

I did not realize that Sean Cunningham directed Deep Star Six. That was always one of those movies that I recall the cover from, but never actually saw. I knew Friday the 13th, but I didn't realize he made an Alien knockoff too.

It's kind of a clever unintentional meta commentary on the Halloween franchise in general.

Preservation - surprisingly tense in spite of the budget and script

I immediately suspected that the director had to be one of God's All Stars, and naturally the early life section did not disappoint. No WASP could get away with this.

Weapons is extremely boring outside of the last 1/3 which is basically salvaged by the witch being very entertaining, first 2/3s are literally sleep inducing tier of nothig happening and things being told and retold multiple times
Sinners is only salvaged by Remmy being a very entertaining villain and one of the most charismatic vampires to date in a time when Dracula is still the only relevant one left, but the movie is too high on its own farts and should have just been From Dusk Till Dawn tier of vampire action and kills
Final Destination at least is true to the franchise and entertaining for its entire duration besides some questionable CGI quality on a few kills

>>
>>215646687
Yes, I had a similar experience seeing the 2006 Silent Hill movie, when the "janitor" demon showed up the teen girls in front of us screamed and ran out of the theater, never returned. It was particularly great because they spent the first half of the movie giggling and talking like "this movie is stoopid" "this movie isn't scary" blah blah blah but that Janitor fucked them up I guess.

I think people not going to theaters much anymore really fucked up the horror genre. There's a TON of movies I love because of theater experiences that I probably wouldn't like much otherwise.
>Even Snakes On A Plane was kino if and ONLY if you saw it opening night in the theater.
>>
>>215659766
That's a retarded explanation, considering people watch horror for the violence and suspense. The nudity is just a bonus.

Also, guro porn is hard to come by.
