one of my favorites. There was this 4K AI upscale on youtube a few months back that didn't actually look terrible, like it didn't make the people look all waxy and didn't have the weird frame interpolation thing going on. It just looked a bit crisper than the all the 360p uploads. It got removed recently though...
>>
So these threads are only for arthouse films, right? How would you even define such a film? What criteria does a film have to meet to be considered an art film (ie its characteristics)? Something mainstream like Taxi Driver is confessional, sincere and stylized, though it does not feel right to call it an art film. The lines seem blurry.

I am finding Grosse Point Blank difficult to sit through after just 30 minutes.
The humor doesn't land for me, and I haven't found it engaging or poignant either.
I am considering skipping it rather than go through another high school reunion movie with a twist. Is it worth sticking with it if I don't like the first part?
>>
>>215983053
Arthouse is either avant-garde or art film, while classics means old or well regarded. Taxi Driver could be considered an art-esque classic.

A lot of non-art films can be/are usually discussed through an arthouse lens. Late career Michael Mann films, for example. It doesn't really matter.

Taxi Driver would be considered arthouse if it wasn't so popular.

Check out the rest of the record, if you enjoyed that piece. It's the recording of a show Miles played opening for the Grateful Dead, and the Dead themselves said he blew them out of the stage. My only issue with it is Wayne Shorter's absence.

>This screening puts into practice a radical Godardian proposition: the screening of his Made in USA (1966) and 2 ou 3 choses que je sais d’elle (Two or Three Things I Know About Her, 1966) as a single work, with their reels and narratives intertwined.
>In 1967, having set aside the idea of adapting The Wild Palms, Godard proposed instead projecting his two very different most recent features, which he had shot back-to-back for separate producers, as an integrated work. As Richard Roud reported, what Godard wanted was to have them shown together, ‘first a reel of Made in USA, then a reel of Two or Three Things I Know About Her, then a reel of Made in USA, etc., just as Faulkner mixed two stories in The Wild Palms. That would be his adaptation of the novel.’

I signed up for Letterboxd this spring to easily store /tv/ recs because I wanted to watch a bunch of movies
Now I'm over 400 movies watched despite having a job and all I do is watch movie, rate it, write a two sentence review, add it to any relevant lists, and repeat.
That with occasionally replying to the top reviews of apparently famous e-celebs to openly mock their bad takes.
Random nobodies will add me and have hundreds of followers and spam my activity feed with likes of other people's comments on random movies, but then their profile has 25 movies watched ever, I don't get it. Why spend more time reading about movies than watching them?

Xhe unironically is way more useful than 99% of the people in this site, and like 50% irl. In this irony poisoned times, being wholesome and sincere has somehow become "cringe" to the masses of edgy teenagers / edgy adult teens (30+), so it's cool to see someone doing "the right thing TM". Same reason why the Superman movie buckbroke the chvds... ironic nihilistic edgyness for ironic nihilistic edgyness sake has become complete cringe over the years. Niggas really be thinking they're Sasuke for shouting "nigger" at the top of their lungs, etc.

>What could you possibly know about your existence?
I know that everyone I've seen going into catholicism from an anglo perspective lately is either a) some kind of egotistical conservacuck or b) a Christbro. I would define the Christbro as an evolution of the gymbro and therefore the cryptobro, too, because they usually come from those kinds of backgrounds and fall into catholicism for aesthetic reasons. They really don't know jack shit about Christ, the saints or the history of the religion, but they think it looks cool and also feel like it represents a certain evolution of their capitalistic mindset into a religious mindset. Essentially, they feel empty inside, and think that projecting their inner emptiness into a rich, historical religion, will make them have some kind of gravitas and maybe a moral boost but, in reality, they keep on being completely surface level about their understanding of the religion and Christ, and so they speak in ways which sound Jordan Peterson-esque in a motivational way without even knowing about important concepts like self-sacrifice, solidarity and the severity of God (yes, turns out God was a very hardcore being), which are related to catholic social teaching. Basically, they want the aesthetic of being "good" in a christlike way without putting in the work. It also is hilarious that many of them are insanely materialistic and right wing, while the catholic religion is essentially socialistic. Not saying that is your case, but I mean, 90% of young dudes into catholicism are like this nowadays.

I agree with your sentiment. It may not show in public because of my deranged posts and the dog incident, but I'm actually wholesome and sincere with the ones I love. I'd much rather be that at all times, only I feel I'm not nearly as interesting of a character when I'm sincere. I know that's untrue because of my friends who enjoy conversing with me, but I'm not comfortable slipping my mask off with just anyone. I probe people with my irony stick to figure out their character, to see if I can unmask with them. Surely I'm not alone on this.

Not true. I've experimented, but it confirmed my heterosexuality. I know I can be zesty, and I get accused of being a woman (as a derogative) when I'm presenting my sincere thoughts. I don't know how to perceive gender in myself, I just perceive myself as a person. Sure I'm a male, but I don't really feel bound by any arbitrary criteria for what being a man is. I just do what feels comfortable.

>How can you possibly think salvation is tied to the place one lives?
NTA, but my personal view of salvation is that it depends on many factors, including your culture. You yourself were saying (ironically) that asians are unsavable bugmen, and while I do not agree with that feel, I do think that angloid culture is for the most part contrarian to catholic teachings, which is not to say that it is worthless. Essentially, I think that salvation needs to be put into action first with oneself, -and anglos excel at that-, but that needs to lead the individual to helping their fellow men, which is what the catholics focus on and angloids neglect. I think a mix of both POVs is something closer to the trvke, but that's just my personal view of spirituality.
