I generally enjoyed S5 especially the tone which aligns closer to what made S1 good. But is it just me or is the writing stiff and maybe the worst it's ever been? There's so much exposition dumping and then "we should do X, but what if Y?" dialogue alongside clumsy lines that seem inserted just to explain things or advance the plot. It almost feels like a synopsis of S5 moreso than an actual sequence of events that are taking place.

I marathoned the first two episodes last night, will watch the other two today. I watched every season as they released so I don't really remember why I liked S1 so much that it made me watch all the other seasons when each one seems worse than the previous one. I think most of the kids aren't great actors, only Finn Wolfhard, Joe Keery and Maya Hawke are tolerable. I think the show has too many characters and they keep adding new ones, I think the story is a bit retarded, the action scenes aren't great and the cgi is bad.

Honestly most I've enjoyed a season I think. That said, I liked the first half of season 4 and hated the second half, so I'll keep my expectations for part 2 tempered.I have been waiting since season fucking 1 to actually see armed soldiers fight the demogorgons. man, rewatching that first season, just the first episode again, it's so rich in scenes, sucks you right in whereas in the following seasons are just rollercoaster rides or spookhouses at worst. dont get me wrong, there is still some fun stuff, but man, quality is like day and night. i feel this is also an issue about modernism and each year people involved in making films and tvshows just get dumber and dumber, or rather, cheaper and cheaper. hire the cheapest personell there is, non-union, possibly outsource a lot of the effect works, but i digress.season 1, as i already knew, holds up very well, but it's a delight to watch again, reminding oneself of better times~

I wouldn't call this season bad, but it's quite dull. It's almost entirely lacking the slice-of-life stuff and the town world-building and side characters. It's almost exlcusively about all the main established characters and most of the show is "This thing happened/is happening. We need to come up with an elaborate plan together and pull it off like a heist movie".Honestly, the best part of the season thus far has been the fat kid. Jonathan has been an utterly shit character and a complete waste of space since S2. Eleven has been pure cringe since S2 and is only getting worse. Steve is good but is always constantly just spinning his wheels, going nowhere. Dustin is quite insufferable this season. Mike is improved, because we're no longer witnessing the horrendous teenage love angle between him and eleven. Robin would be a horrific character if the actress wasn't so sexy. I wouldn't call it boring, but it's just dull.Also, does a single person give a fuck about the pajeet? Talk about a let down.
