>Casey Biggs: I would say the big difference between the two of them I was on, for DS9 they were all renegades. If you know Ira Behr, he is a freaking renegade. And Avery is a renegade. We were the dark horse of the series, so they can do whatever they wanted. I don’t know about you Jeff, but on Enterprise I felt those guys were scared. Because they hadn’t figured out their formula yet. They called Ira in to say, “How can we fix it?” And Ira being Ira said they had to change everything.

As a non-boomer non-Star Trek watcher, I enjoyed his Star Trek revival

As someone who then-only cared about Star Wars through KOTOR, I didn't think The Force Awakens was bad at all, although I felt Rey was a strange Bastilla clone; I still don't think it's terrible—it was definitely wasted with the rest of the Sequel Trilogy's progression
>>
>>216630384
Are you gonna play FOTOR when and if it comes out? A bit of a side note; even though Star Wars might be equally as fucked as Star Trek, the one thing it has over Star Trek is the constant stream of quality video games. Star Trek is just stuck with Kurtzman shite and IDW's gay comics.
>>
>>216629774
The only thing worse than that dipshit breaking Star Trek in half over his knee & throwing the part everyone liked in the fire just bc he thought he was too hot shit to be bothered writing in-universe is that piece of shit Alex Kurtzman coming along and pouring his own mixture of piss, shit, gasoline & vaseline on the fire. Fuck all these people and the studio that so thoroughly trashed their most popular ip of the last 50 years for a quick buck today. In any other industry, none of these fucks would ever work again.

From left to right, Caleb Mir (Sandro Rosta), SAM AKA Series Acclimation Mil (Kerrice Brooks), Darem Reymi (George Hawkins), Captain Nahla Ake (Academy Award winner Holly Hunter), Tarima Sadal (Zoë Steiner), Jay-Den Kraag (Karim Diané), and Genesis Lythe (Bella Shepard). HBO trusted him to make their next Game of Thrones, and to his credit Westworld speedran turning into a trash fire just like D&D. No seriously WW was marketed as premiering the year before until HBO execs saw season 1 and told him and Christopher Nolan to go back and reshoot the entire fucking season with no cliffhangers because they were in such deep shit there'd be no further seasons if they fucked up again. That's the actual reason you see weird shit like can labels changing between them falling and a character picking them up, the photo in the dirt at the Abernathy ranch changing from a picture of the Golden Gate bridge to a stock photo of a model in Times Square at night, and other things like that to salvage what they could.

Abrams allowed the guy who wrote "I'm a big guy for you" to helm the series, it was disastrously bad to the point the cast are under NDA not to talk about the first version of the first season, and under threat Abrams agreed that Nolan would not only revise the first season script before reshoots but provide HBO a 5 season story bible in case they decided to fire both of them. And it still fucking sucked after S1:
>Entire subplot about Delos desperately trying to exfiltrate Host technology rendered moot by them having operated the backup facilities onsite for the last 30 years
>Ford who was a stickler about narrative somehow never noticed WW's park narrative being recycled in other adjacent parks

The overarching theme of the story was sold in interviews as "no we won't do robot good man evil, this will be a series about humans and hosts bridging the gap between them" but in fact the story became "humans stupid, robots need two state solution, AI secretly employing psychohistory at global level" with this idea that every season would BLOW YOUR MIND, MAN over and over and do so with the least compelling characters in the series.

probably wouldnt be any better if they put all that effort into writing and acting but i cant believe it would be worse

i mean yeah that's exactly what it means. effort would have involved making something that looks appealing. it's all cg slop anyway so whether it ends up looking good or ends up looking like shit it's pretty much the same technically. the effort is in telling the artists what to make and how it should look, which is apparently, like shit.

Speaking of, looking at the 2026 Star Trek Cruise autograph and photo price list, the kids from SFA are priced higher than some Old Trek like DS9. Kerrice Brooks is $25 more than Nana Visitor.

The Trekkie market is sending a message.
>>
>>216635838
The reshoot thing was real though.

JJ's original version of Westworld was basically William and Delores culminating in William blowing up his life and nearly killing his brother in law for a robot who got mindwipes so she didn't remember loving him or even recognize him. With Wright and Hopkins basically paid to be the Greek chorus and Ed Harris as a cowboy larper who William keeps running into at the park.

It was so God awful that HBO basically banned Abrams from working on the show and ordered Jonathan Nolan and his wife to reshoot 90% of the show. They came up with the dueling timelines, Harris being William as an old man, expanding Hopkins and Wrights roles on the show, creating both Teddy snd Maeve's entire storylines and the subplot about Delores being programmed to kill Arnold/lost in a memory loop, and the robot rebellion cliffhanger.

I love Star Trek beyond and genuinely believe it was the best trek movie since 6, but they BARELY made double the posted budget, which is a technical failure. I’ve been saying this for years, they should treat trek like mission impossible and just give directors a bit of free rein to make a Star Trek movie, I’d love to see a Brad bird or even an Edgar wright Star Trek, but paramount seems to not understand that
>>
>>216637855
An Edgar Wright Star Trek movie would be quipslop turned up to 11.

To expound on it a bit more, into darkness took the wind out of the franchises sails by being a banal remake when they should’ve just turned a random TOS episode into a movie to hook in the world wide audience. The 09 reboot got China and others interested in the characters and setting by just being an exciting action movie, the second movie should’ve been a bit slower to really showcase what the franchise is for that international audience, but JJ just wanted a big stupid action movie to test out a few more scenes for force awakens and pasted a go nowhere story that makes less sense as you go

By about 2005-2010 the marketing wizards discovered that boomers were done watching movies, GenX was too small to matter, and the millennials weren’t watching classic films, they were only interested in whatever is NEW. They didn’t care if it was shit, at least it was new and they felt up do date by seeing it. This was great news for directors, bc all of the sudden there was 100 years of filmmaking to mine for ideas to recycle and put out that the new generation of ticket-buyers had never seen before. The reuse & remix culture brought enough legal protection (& rights ownership being consolidated between a few studios) that there would be no legal obstacles from just mashing up old scenes, plots, dialogue, etc, into new movies over and over. It’s a lot less work making a collage of everyone else’s work than it is coming up with your own. The same thing happened in music. But the truly lazy, most brash ripoff artists won’t just rip off some obscure work that had good ideas lost to time, they go straight for the big popular hits. Like deciding to cover a Led Zeppelin tune, instead of choosing one of the few less popular numbers that never got radio play and making it into your own sweet arrangement to showcase a buried melody or whatever what you like about it, no, they go straight for Stairway To Heaven, a track everyone on earth has heard to death and what, think you’re going to do a better job of it? They don’t think that far ahead, they just see big numbers and imagine big dollar signs. Capitalism does not reward integrity, or even quality.

Trek: Behind the Magic

Karim Diané shared an Instagram Reel of how he turns into Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's new Klingon cadet, Jay-Den Kraag. Diané's video takes viewers through the whole behind-the-scenes process of creating a 3D mold of his head, wearing Klingon prosthetics, being fitted for his Starfleet Academy uniform, and even a painful-looking "stress test."

I highly recommend Red Dwarf. There can't be enough sci-fi comedies, as far as I am concerned. The first episode reveals the plot of the show, so unless you want spoilers, don't read anything about the show first.

Haven't seen it, but I haven't heard good things about it either.
>BSG
Haven't seen it, apparently the fans hate either the original run or the reboot run, idfk, but it's somewhere between Trek and Dr. Who in terms of its production quality, so make of that what you will.
>SG-1
Absolute kino. The first season, they're kinda trying to find their feet, but they eventually get there, and the last season or two can be kinda mid like TNG.
>B5
Kino. It's like a lower budget DS9, but the characters can be just as good if not better. A little dorky at times.
>Farscape
Very dorky, but kino. You're only going to enjoy it if you like Jim Henson's puppets and/or you enjoyed The Dark Crystal.
>Firefly
It's almost unbelievable that the guy that ruined modern-day movie dialogue was responsible for this show. It's not god's gift to mankind like the fans would have you believe, but it's extremely solid, and the movie is great aside from 2 particular things that happened exclusively because of behind the scenes fuckery.
>Red Dwarf
Haven't seen it, but it's a classic, and I've heard that it got another run somewhat recently. It's a British comedy series, so you get what you'd expect.

The last tracks I have to do are The Maquis and my coda. The problem is I try to make every track reflect Dukat's hilarious narcissism and in many ways missing the episode's point to make it about him. The big problem with the Maquis is that there's no way to make that funny. He literally strutted in on orders, primary education mogged the federation and then sat around arrogantly parrying mind melds until he was saved. His bemused interpretation of the event is exactly what happened. So it would just be a ballad about the episode. Maybe I'll make the chorus what he's thinking about to avoid the mind meld. This is about to be a song about bay-jorran wrinkle pussies ft. Calvin Hudson.

Ruth Breisinger was the first among dozens of fans to claim that ST:TNG could not be "real" Star Trek: "It's bad enough that Paramount thinks different actors can portray the characters we know and love, but to think that even the characters themselves can be replaced is doubly insulting. Evidently, Paramount thinks that we will accept anything labeled Star Trek... It's fine that Paramount intends to do another science fiction series by Mr. Roddenberry—but PLEASE just don't call it Star Trek."

Lisa gave ST:TNG updates throughout the year, but once ST:TNG was out, she said, "I don't expect I'll watch The Next Generation again. It's like tuning in to watch the corpse of a much-loved friend decay. And it gets ranker each week...it seems to say that logic is no longer relevant." The last comment was particularly directed to the episode "Where No One Has Gone Before." Lisa objected to the Enterprise being pushed through space by "wish power."

The casting leaves room for complaint. Capt. Jean-Luc Picard played by Patrick Stewart, is a grim bald crank who would make a better villain.

Jonathan Frakes, as commander William Riker verges on namby-pamby.

there's a reformed Klingon with a leafy forehead (played by a drowsy Michael Dorn) and an android named Data (Brent Spiner), who unfortunately resembles a San Francisco street mime.

The new Enterprise is, says Paramount, "twice the length of the original Starship with approximately eight times the interior size." Inside, to tell the truth, it looks like a 24th-century Ramada Inn.

Anon, we’ve been over this. I beat up the bullies in highschool. They weren’t trying to bully me. I could probably kill everyone in this thread with my bare hands old boy style if we were all locked in a room. I would shoot the meth Nazi in the head first

Wow, no need to be rude. It's not my fault that you have the mentality of a middle aged SJW, where everyone under 30 is a child.
>Young as in not old. 37 is not old.
Young means 18-mid 20s. You grew up and YOUR perspective has changed. That doesn't mean you're right, it just means that you're delusional.

Advertising age groups segment youth into tweens (pre-teens), teens (13-17), college students (18-24), and young adults (25-34)

Everyone else isn't young. If they think otherwise they're lying to themselves.

So, according to you and the schizo post above, the three STARS of JJ Trek, Pine, Quinto, and Saldana, were literally YOUNG. Thank you for proving my point. They were also fit and healthy looking and not fucking Tilly or Old Man Picard or fat black SNW Uhura. Or Q forbid whatever the creatures on Starfleet Academy are going to be. Literally fuck off.

I've always heard about Doohan's military service. How he lost fingers storming a beach on d-day. And I just now know that DeForest is the same age. Made me wonder, did he do WWII too? And, yes:

>During World War II, Kelley served as an enlisted man in the United States Army Air Forces from March 10, 1943, to January 28, 1946, assigned to the First Motion Picture Unit with the rank of private first class.

Not as cool as Jimmy though.

Also, this factoid just above that paragraph on Kelly's wiki:

>nearly secured the lead role in This Gun for Hire (1942), but Alan Ladd was chosen instead.[9]

That's crazy. He had no chance. Alan Ladd owned that role.

You're right. In SNW, Enterprise is the flagship. But, in TOS. It was not the flagship. TNG was the flagship. Then TOS-era Enterprise was retconned into being the flagship in the JJtrek flicks. And that retcon was carried over into SNW.

So, you are right. Only because you consider NuTrek cannon over TOS though.

And Cadet Nog was a bridge officer aboard the Defiant. Which was the flagship of the fleet that retook DS9. Because Sisko was the fleet commander. And that was the ship he was aboard. And I'm no seaman. But I'm pretty sure that's how 'flagships' mean.

Why would you generate an AI image of Lenny Nimoy sitting in a chair and reading? For what purpose? He has been photographed doing that. And you can find and look at those photographs by using the internet. Why did you NEED to see that specific one? Like, instead of writing a prompt, why not just type that exact same text into a search engine?
