Quaritch edition
Are we finally done with the bullshit "Quaritch leads a mission to capture/kill Jake" plot?
>>
>>216750374
Avatar is gay and so are you.
>>
>>216750374
yes, he died offscreen
>>
I think so. The general is sick of his shit at this point, so I hope he just goes home with Varang

Spoiler tags dummy.
And he died on-screen in Avatar 1 so they could just bring him back again. Or even just pull some bullshit where he didn't actually die because it was off screen

It's like Cameron dumped the last movie and some new characters into an A.I. screenplay writer.

>OH NOOOOOO my wife and/or kids have been taken hostage to bait me yet again!
getting real tired of this trope, they've had that happen at least like 5 times now. It was old when they kept doing it in the second movie and now they had to do the same shit in this one.
>>
>>216750415
I thought the general went down with the ship
>>
Feel torn because in a lot of ways it was the most fun of the three but it definitely feels like things weren’t push far enough in directions they needed to go. If nothing else the Quarritch arc needed a more concrete finish because as of right now he’s still half in half out with another death fake out. Other than that I feel like the Way of Water rehash complaints are overblown. It’s way more character focused than that was with Jake and Neytiri really getting to do more. We need to be done with Kiri’s Deus Ex Machina shit though. Thematically it’s just not adding anything either and the whole “KILL THEM ALL” feels like it lost the plot a bit. Overall the most flawed of the three but still leagues better than all the rest of studio slop.
>>
>>216750541
If I don’t see her onscreen actively dying I’ll assume she lives
>>
>>216750408

>>
>>216750374
I think Varang is going to get pregnant in 4th one and Quaritch will join the pro-Nai'vi side
>>
>>216750502
>>216750497
He's now a traitor and a failure, so there's zero reason for them to ever bring him back. His actions to get Jake just resulted in a catastrophic losses of personnel and equipment all because he was far too concerned with his predecessor's child and being so nice that the kid could destroy them from the inside.
>>
>>216750817
actually Quaritch and the ash people damn near saved the whaling armada. They got wiped out by being greedy retards
>>
>>216750576
>We need to be done with Kiri’s Deus Ex Machina shit though
That's only just begun. She's going to be full-on Neo from the Matrix in the next one. She can control Eywa completely and tell it to do whatever Kiri desires
>>
>>216750869
The armada only needed saving directly because of Quaritch's retarded actions. He had Jake in hand, got them fucked up by going after Spider. Had Jake imprisoned, got the city fucked up by being nice to Spider and also allowing in Na'vi that could fuck up the defenses giving them IFF tags.
>>
>>216750817
To be fair, he didn’t really have anything to do with them losing Jake after he was captured and was the only reason they didn’t get merked immediately in the final fight. What fucked them over was trying to mass exterminate the whales against the warnings of their marine biologist. Hell, if they’d have let Quarritch and the Ash People ride with them in the first place, the fliers wouldn’t have been able to take out so many gunships before the battle really kicked off.
>>
>>216750869
That's the other thing getting tiresome too. How how stupid the evil fascist American tech monster humans are and especially all their higher chain of command. They're a joke at this point. They let Spider escape, they are constantly arguing with each other over what to do, a Marine biologist just walked in and stole a bulldozer, all the civilians are phone addicted NPCs that feel like extras from Idiocracy, and the whale hunters walked into an extremely dangerous situation after getting their shit kicked in because "money". There is no justifiable reason any of them should even be alive let alone starting a colony. They are all retarded. They have to do something different with them in the next movie for fuck sakes.
>>
>>216750932
If Quaritch hadn't been nice to Spider nor brought in Ash Na'vi, Jake would have died in prison. No Jake then no Toruk Makto, no Na'vi army, no Tulkun actually fighting back.
>>
>>216751016
They also have retarded security protocols. Spider literally escapes by unscrewing a vent lmao
>>
>>216750415
>>216750541
>>216750603
>>216750642
Carmella is dead.
Quaritch is alive.
>>
>>216750817
The whole movie they were building up to "Quaritch realizes that he's a Navi now, not a human, and joins the Navi and Spider" so they could very well pull that. I was shocked that he """died""" like that after the way the movie had developed him
>>
>>216751043
I'm just tired of there being maybe like 5 humans with any common sense out of the supposed millions already living on the planet. Even in real life it isn't that bad.
>>
>>216750511
This. It was fucking terrible and I loved the 2nd one. Its also 10x more woke with kiri being pandora jesus and spider is a zoomer idiot doing fortnite dances.Biggest disappointment of the year.
>>
>>216750540
They have a daughter whose entire purpose is getting taken hostage in the final act.
>>
>>216751016
yes, the point is that they're all retarded and greedy to the point of incompetence since they only thing that matters is getting rich this instant. These aren't supposed to be people you root for. They don't give a fuck about the survival of humanity, they want to make money.

Should we work with allied tribes? No it doesn't make money now.
Should we invest in security? No it doesn't make money now.
Should we retreat after most of our fleet got destroyed and we only live through pure luck? No it doesn't make money now.

Needless to say it's probably the most realistic characterization in the series.
>>
>>216750697
Word of mouth is going to destroy the box office. It was trash. Not worth the ticket price at all. There will be no 4th movie
>>
>>216751127
refer to >>216751086
Also isn't the reason they came back due to earth dying so they need to colonize in order for the human race to even survive? In the first movie it was all about money. Now it's about the human race not going extinct.
>>
>>216751155
The word of mouth is extremely positive so far, the same as the previous movie. Cinemascore and RT audience score supports that
>>
>>216751168
They originally came for unobtanium, which was a super mineral that was invaluable to industry and space travel.

In 2 and 3, they are mostly there for the Tulkun Ambergris that lets humans live forever. It has always been about money, although now that they know about Spider being able to breathe they may shift their focus.
>>
>>216751155
The only badish word of mouth was the critics, audiences liked it
>>
>>216751221
What was the shit about colonizing the earth then? I know they said this in the first movie because earth is dying.
>>
>>216751122
in both the 2nd and 3rd movie. This is ridiculous. They keep doing it over and over
>>
>>216751244
This is the die hard fans that give those positive reception. It will get out that the movie is incredibly mid and people will watch it on VOD vs the theater. It might not even break a billion
>>
>>216751016
I mean outside of the fact that this series is explicitly an ecological parable that’s not really trying to both sides it, you have to remember that the Earth of this universe is all the fears of late stage capitalism taken to a far off end point. It’s not exactly OOC for the species so stupid it destroyed a planet to then immediately go do it again. That’s part of what’s interesting but so far underexplored about the human side of things. Are they actually too far gone?
>>
>>216750502
Lang said a long time ago that he appears in all 4 sequels
>>
>>216751168
the "good" people are represented by Quaritch, who actually has principles beyond getting a paycheck. People like him can't work when the leadership is greedy nepotists that are unable to think more than five seconds into the future. This is what he runs into in the movie.

The colonization effort is for the ultra-rich that can pay for it. Again they don't give a fuck about anything else than living forever in a mansion on Pandora

I like to judge A3 on its own level against the other entries, and i felt kinda miffed because it mirrors A2 so much, A2+A3 should've been one movie. Also, it has no "resolution" phase of the story. A3 ends right after the "climax" phase with the final spiral fight, when it should've gone further and shown scenes of all the major characters settling down and hinting at what comes next. Very jarring that it goes to credits right after that battle.

THAT SAID, A3 with all its glaring flaws in the broader movie landscape is WORLDS more entertaining and better conceived than literally everything else. FUCK gay ass political NPC retard shit like One Battle and Eddington. The realm of imagination is so potent and vast, and midwit slop movies made by soulless Hylics like Ari Aster and James Gunn just INSIST on dragging cinema and audiences down towards the abyss.
>>
I got you a burger.
>>
>>216751642
Tbf I think with James not knowing whether 4 and onward would be a thing at the time let alone how long they could take, it was necessary to have some kind of closure to 3 even if it feels kind of unsatisfying. I’m just more annoyed that it was about fucking Spyder.
>>

>>
>>216751642
I don't get the complaints about it being too much like Way of Water. Did people want the Sully family to ditch everything and leave for some fire place? The second film straight up has Jake say "we are sea people now". It was never a temporary stop, the places, people and creatures from the second film are essential to the overall plot of the series, it's all one story rather than hopping around to separate ones. In that regard it's more like LOTR rather than some Marvel universe shit. When a new character is introduced, they are there to stay for the story, and I think that's much better than "Avatar but it's fire, Avatar but it's snow, Avatar but it's mud". It goes for character and plot depth rather than width of the universe.
>>

the plot of "they take the wife/kids hostage" was overdone in Way of the Water and was just tiring at this point
>>
Honestly feel like if the final battle didn’t exist nobody would be bitching. Rest of the movie is completely different and unique from WoW but the fact that the very end is a fight over whales and one of the Sully children gets taken hostage colored everyone’s opinions on the entire movie.

>>
>>216752611
Honestly the whole scene with Neytiri crying to herself and realising Jake deciding to kill Spider was all her fault, coinciding with having the red paint disguise on her and it washing off to look like blood on her hands, it's so kino. Saldana always did something special that felt by far the most real and convincing as a Na'vi.
>>
>>216752506
First of all, this isn't a competition smarty pants. I, in fact, did not know this until recently.

Second of all, sounds like execs yet again intervening and forcing the creator's hand to split up great singular works into multiple entries. Like how Matrix Reloaded and Revolution were going to be 1 movie or Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2 were just one movie. And if WB execs werent so ready to move on from the Snyderverse (he's coming back by the way, he's "NEXT"), they probably would sliced the Snydercut of JL into two movies.
>>
>>216752718
>sounds like execs yet again intervening and forcing the creator's...

No, in an interview Cameron himself said that he wanted to split them up and that the studio didn't want that. He had to convince them that splitting them up would also mean cashing in twice while production cost wouldn't rise that much since they would need all the stuff in place any way, so using it all for 2 movies is just more efficient.

Didn't check my watch a single time. Great pacing imo and I was constantly engaged. But then again I really like the world of Avatar. But also, I didn't like The Way of Water that much. I think if you are just interested in the action and spectacle by the best action director of all time you are gonna have a good time. I personally loved it.
>>
>>216752848
Jake isn't really treated as the most important character anymore, it feels like the story has grown enough and it trusts the surrounding cast a lot to support the core from the first film and grow into further relevance. It mostly works, I enjoy watching scenes focused around Lo'ak, Kiri, Neytiri and others. Jake isn't even the narrator anymore.
>>
>>216752812
Almost all humans are white. Both the main protagonist and antagonist are white men with native waifus. And there are literally 0 gay characters in all 3 movies. It's like they're some time capsule from a bygone era. That's why the (((critics))) hate them.

Not very interesting plot wise but it's refreshing to see something else than superhero slop, in your face political propaganda, girlpower slop, or another mid dystopian film. Just having a pro natalist theme with a large family and visually showing pregnancy + baby, especially with the whole "connection to nature" thing, makes it enjoyable. Cameron loves life and I think pumping that message to the masses is infinitely better than what we find in the majority of media we've gotten in the last ten years. Plus it looks pretty. 7/10.
>>
Movie finished, way too fucking long.
also I was way more invested in the General Killjoy and his psycho gf than I was with the actual heroes. Eywa is absolutely useless and the only reason things worked out is a literal deus ex machina
the peaceful Navi girl literally screaming "KILL ALL THE SKYWALKERS!!* doesn't raise any red flags?
I also kinda hate Spider? Dude is an embarrassing self insert for wannabe Navi daters. Dude stabs his dad in the back what like five times throughout the movie?
And also nothing is actually concluded with the movie. I think the head general lady dies, somehow, despite abandoning ship. But the rich entrepreneur dude who I remember being a useless sod in the first film survives and there's no reason for the same stuff not to happen all over again.

AFAG? k

Just saw it and I liked it. I still like 2 the best though

[Spoiler]
+I like Neytiri in this. Slightly bigger presence than in the last film
+Varang is pure sex
+the air traders were cool. Wish we saw more of them tho
+Quaritch and Varang were fun to watch
+Ewya reveal?!?! Holy shit
+Spider and the changes he goes through
+got to see Tsu'tey again
-not enough Tuk
-not enough Lyle
-Spider getting kissed by Kiri. It should have been me!
-RIP Rotxo. he was a real nigga
-kinda shocked by how similar the film was to Avatar 2. So many scenes felt lile they were ripped out of it.
-the final battle being on the water and involving whales AGAIN

It really isn't a good look for the goddess when she waits until half the whales and Navi are dead before saving the day.

If you watch deleted/extended scenes from 2 they cut a bunch of presence from Neytiri for time, there is more where Ronal struggles to teach her to ride the water creatures and then Neytiri shows she can hunt her own way by leaving from her Ikran into the water.
The end scene where she was gonna kill spider is way longer too, she was gonna do it anyway to avenge her son and they really had to talk her down. It was way more tense and I can't believe they cut it.

RDA, like all gigacorporations, is basically suffering from immense corporate inertia. Spider is an ungrateful, cringy little shit in this movie. Quaritch goes so far out of his way for him and Spider throws it back in his face every time and brags about it. >the natives have air superiority and our close air support get shredded whenever we try to use them

they are written so poorly and made into a joke time and time again, it gets tiresome

He does generally face racism. Neytiri despised him and wanted Jake to send him away to be with his own kind. The only ones who like him were the kids and they grew up with him. He mainly played with the kids and stayed out of the adult Na'vi's way. It helps that he speaks their language and respects their traditions/lifestyle.

The whales were pacifists. The whales have long memories and their ancestral tribes got into big wars killing each other. So they resolved to give up killing so that it wouldn't result in big body counts of dead whales. This is obviously way before the humans arrived, but the whales were set in their way after so long. Payakan's pod was attacked and most of them killed, so he killed some humans to protect his pod. And the whales got pissed and outcast him. It took until this movie to finally get them to listen.

it was pretty big in that movie that neytiri didn't see spider as one of her own, it's why it was such a point of contention and her development in this movie.
at the end of 2 Quaritch holds Tuk hostage, Neytiri reciprocates and holds Spider hostage. Quaritch instantly backs down, in the extended cut she was still going to kill him anyways saying "a son for a son" because she knew the entire time he was Quaritch's son, and Quaritch had just killed her oldest son. This is where spider gets the scar on his chest, neytiri is the one who gave it to him and even before that moment when they're on the boat he has a shellshocked look on his face as he's hiding and watching her kill humans with inhuman hatred.

Sure, but im not talking about neytiri only, all na'vi attack choppers in the same way: dive bomb them from above before sniping the pilot with a well placed arrow
>They do expect retaliation, they are armed to the teeth when they go in. They just don't expect it from the tolkun themselves because they aren't supposed to fight back.
Except that they didnt prepare in the slightest, they just got a bunch more people than last time
They know the natives go under the waves before pouncing on them, but they havent installed any spikes or rails along the sides of the ships to prevent that sort of thing
And no, the humans DID know the tolkun were intelligent and capable of violence, the ship in the 2nd movie literally got destroyed by one losing his shit
Even if that were a freak case, people would learn from it and avoid giving the whales the advantage of surprise, such as swimming into a whole cornered pod of them and expecting them to be good little kittens
>Now you are just splitting hairs
No, i am being perfectly logical, its a well known fact in military doctrine that you do NOT bring close air support when you dont have air superiority, because then your gunships will just get destroyed by the enemy fighters
You need to control the skies before you try to bomb the enemy

When the squids showed up and started noshing on the plesiowhatever I was thinking they were free from the fungus hivemind. Kinda a parallel to the ash tribe with an animal that lived in a place so far from the trees that they followed the proper rules of nature.

So the final battle obviously disappointed me.

The most important thing that no one is talking about: they capture Jake and have him in prison, the entire city is looking at him and taking pictures, Selfridge is there, the General is there, how did not a single person ask how the fuck did this dude permanently transfer himself into his human-created avatar body? That's a huge damn deal. Fuck the whale juice, if they can just move their current consciousness to a freshly made body, they are immortal and can put themselves into any body they wish. Want to be a gigachad or even a stacy? Boom, done. But no, everyone just looks at Jake saying "yay, we got him! time to shoot him! nothing special to learn from this traitor! Now Spider, that's the real special guy we should study!"

I will not be satisfied until we see a time skip 100 years into the future where humans have fully settled pandora, replaced its serene natural landscapes with parking lots, strip malls and mcdonalds, and the na'vi are reduced to reservations where they live off government assistance and are all fat and addicted to alcohol

In reality? LLMs are a dead end. It's not alive and will never reach sentience because we don't know what sentience is. If the technocrats were building datacenters using organoids made of brain tissue, we'd have something to talk about because we obviously know brains=sentience. But that's not the case.

And thank god for that. The looming techno-antichrist will never cometh, Deus Ex, Ex Machina, Skynet, Jarvis, Ultron, iRobot, all this shit was a paranoid false prophecy.

why did jake not try to get the word out to humanity?
that was grace's original plan, and she knew that people back home would care if they knew the truth
is it too much to ask that jake recognises that he is human? he only got his perfect life through sheer luck because his brother died
>>
>>216755492
Because that requires humans to confront the question of their mortality and consciousness. Jake was willing to leave his past and his body behind for love of his new home. Quarritch did it but he can't decide if he is devoted to his old ideals, or if his new self can be a different and better person unshackled from his past. I don't think I would be able to ditch my body and mind out of some vague promise that my next body would have my memories. Would it have my "self"? Because I want that.
>>
>>216755485
They literally build them on site, we see their factories in the 2nd movie
They could easily upgrade or improve on their designs to counter the enemy
Hell, the russians and ukrainians in the current war started welding scrap metal to their tanks to protect against RPGs, you telling me the pilots wouldnt start strapping armor to their cockpits themselves if they knew how the enemy operates?
Humans are reactionary creatures, we adapt and we overcome, the ones in this movie are as clueless as a bunch of greenhorns who have never seen combat, but most of these are supposed to be mercs with experience from fighting on earth!
Just admit that they are written poorly and purposefully gimped

They did it themselves with Quaritch. They haven't figured out to breathe on Pandora. That's why they cared more about Spider.

Because to do so would cost at least the millions upon millions it costs to grow an avatar body in the first place. It was such a monumental loss when Jake’s brother died that they sought out his brother in the first place

Justification mainly. Dying Earth also sounds very improbable if they have Space Travel and Space Mining operations.
Sure the Flora and Fauna may went the way of the Dodo on Earth, but Industry can easily sustain life. They already do that on Pandora.
Oxygen Recycling, Water electrolysis, Carbon scrubbing, etc is not complicated to have at scale, just Energy intensive.
>>
>>216755694
that's a good thing
>>
>>216755672
You don't have very good reading comprehension, buddy? The people on Pandora did not have any technology to copy Jake's brain and put it permanently into an Avatar. The only thing they can do is remotely control them from an expensive pod. Spider's mutation is nothing compared to what happened with Jake. If the Human's controlled Eywa, they could force it to move anyone's self to any body they wanted.

>humans are capable of splicing alien and human DNA to create hybrid bodies which they can then pilot remotely via wifi
>They are somehow unable to genetically alter themselves to be able to breath on pandora
Lets be honest, why in their right minds would they want any pandoran life form in their bodies when it has been shown to be unpredictable and potentially a sentient pseudo hivemind
I have a theory that the reason all the scientists and jake turned on their own was because they were brainwashed by eywa through their avatar connection whenever they used their head tentacles to connect with the flora
Its clear the planet is a self aware and intelligent organism, so it being able to manipulate the avatar pilots is fully within its capabilities

They can terraform whatever fucking planet they want, or based on the scale of their manufacturing and industrial capabilities, build some fucking dome cities. There should be 0 fucking reason humans are on the edge of extinction. Or even needing to hunt the whales. Once they get a single sample of the brain goo, they could fucking clone that shit in a lab, or whatever fucking gland that produces it. Voila!
God damn it pisses me off when writers forget shit like this, because it sinks the whole fucking plot.

Stop being retarded. I'm not talking about us, I'm talking about the humans in the movie, who can clone and genetically engineer wholly functional bodies. It is within their power and interest to just clone the organs of the whales that produce the immortality juice.
They can also clone plants, animals, whatever they want.
It's one of those technological breakthroughs that solves one of those massive sci-fi issues of space colonization.

Nta, but maybe the organs who make the juice also require more to make it, like the whale's diet or way of life
The shit is stored in the brain, so for all we know, it could be made as a side effect of social interactions between pod members

Now that the general is dead, i think that the next big villain is going to be the chairman that was already mentioned
Would be cool if they revealed that this guy is like mr house who ran simulations to see when earth will collapse and it showed that its got like 50 years max and everything the humans have been doing has been in an attempt to get as much funding as possible and to get as many people and resources from earth before the planet devolves into anarchy
This chairman bankrupted his company to afford the initial colonization and now everything he does to make more money is to get as much off earth as possible
Would also be cool if he were a cyborg who gets badly damaged at the end of film 4 and has to get installed into the city's network to survive, which gives him complete control over it, turning him into a mecha eywa
So yeah, pretty much just mr house

We need some human interaction with the whales.
Right now there are three intelligent species in these movies.
The Na'vi interact frequently with both humans and Tulkun, but a human has never exchanged a single line of dialogue with the entire third set of characters.
They could use some of the massive runtime to have, for example, that marine biologist who helped them escape actually meet the beings who he worked to save.
>>
>>216755421
>Except that they didnt prepare in the slightest, they just got a bunch more people than last time
There were a lot more people, and the whole operation was organized on a super tight deadline, compounded by the chaos just caused by Neytiri busting Jake out, a leadership crisis, and undermined by the reassurances that the tulkun are completely docile.
>They know the natives go under the waves before pouncing on them, but they havent installed any spikes or rails along the sides of the ships to prevent that sort of thing
The Na'vi are clearly shown to jump out of the water and shoot them or throw spears at them, out of reach of any spike. Also, where are they supposed to get those custom-made anti-Na'vi spikes on such short notice on whaling boats?
>And no, the humans DID know the tolkun were intelligent and capable of violence, the ship in the 2nd movie literally got destroyed by one losing his shit
The ship was destroyed and sank because it rammed a rock and split its underside. The single tulkun's attack did not do nearly as much damage.
>Even if that were a freak case, people would learn from it and avoid giving the whales the advantage of surprise, such as swimming into a whole cornered pod of them and expecting them to be good little kittens
The whales that attacked them were not in the pod they surrounded.
>No, i am being perfectly logical
But not sound, from the looks of it.
>>
>>216756131
>Maybe they can because blah blah blah
The movie never says they can't. It doesn't even try. All it does is bend itself into pretzels to MAKE humans out to be the most over the top cartoonishly evil idiots to ever exist because Cameron will get pissy if people continue to side with humanity over his furry ocs
He will never allow the humans to do anything cool, logical, or anything that isn't motivated by whatever hippie dippy bullshit he was upset about when he wrote the script.
>>

Clone != successfully bring to maturity. The bigger the tulkuns get, the more amrita they produce, but that takes a lot of time. Any such cloned organs, provided they even worked, or even made useful amrita in enough quantities to be economically viable, would also take years if not decades of maintenance. Meanwhile the whales are right there.
>>
>>216755965
They can’t clone navi’s. Those are just hybrids. They couldn’t even get the finger count right.
>>
>>216756603
Then clone hundreds, or thousands. Tens of thousands. Make farms. Genetically alter the them to produce more, or to mature faster. It's the most valuable resource to ever exist for the richest people who have ever lived.
>>216756695
They have five fingers because they're hybrids. Not because they're bad clones.
They have to be hybrids because they need THEIR OWN personnel to be able to mentally pilot them, and that requires a close genetic match.
That's why they needed Jake Sully at all.
ERGO

>>216754671
The movies biggest mistake was failing to show how the inhabitants of Earth perceive Pandora. Namely, they're obsessed with it. Humans have even brought some animals and plants to Earth. Eyewa is even worshipped by some. If this corporation were to suddenly destroy all of that, it would be like Amazon burning down all the rainforests and killing all the elephants and whales. Bezos would be killed by his own security guards within the hour. That's why humans won't drop a few nukes or asteroids on Navi.
>>
don't make another thread
>>
>>216755884
Anon probably meant that Eywa transferred Jake's consciousness to the new body, and not simply copied it as was the case with Q. After the whole ritual, Jake's old body was merely an empty shell, just like avatars before a human enters it. People probably didn't know this. They probably thought Jake was just a copy.
