So that Saru can have a gay romance with him in the next season. How does the kid causing the Burn advance the plot or progress character arcs? It doesn't. You can tear season 3 of Discovery to absolute shreds just by asking obvious questions about the big wet fart of a final twist and you don't even need to look at any of the other parts of it, like how the Emerald Chain was an absolutely wasted antagonist faction.
