PSA for anybody wanting first and second movie McFarlane figures, they're being sold for closeout prices at Ross Dress for Less. This is my haul from visiting four Ross's.

The small green ikran was $3.
The Bob and Seze figures with mini Jake and Neytiri were $10.
The Jake and Neytiri figures from The Way of Water were $12.
And the large Seze was $18 and can have the regular Neytiri figure fit on its back.

I also saw Shack and Thanator chase playsets and an AMP Suit figure but didn't have room to grab it at the time.

Cameron is like Lucas in that coolness and storytelling >>>>>>>>> consistent lore. He wanted to show Pandora's oceans and giving the Metkayina physical differences from the Omaticaya was both visually interesting and helped serve the story by emphasizing how isolated the Sully family is from their home, friends, and culture. Now they're in the position of being the aliens, both physically and spiritually.

If you asked Cameron if there are desert and arctic na'vi races he'd probably say "Maybe. And maybe we'll see them if the story leads us there."

>>
>>216867109
>The na'vi are totally monogamous
That's what Neytiri says, why would one believe her words when she just claimed Jake for herself like 5 minutes ago? If anything, Na'vi are shown to be as imperfect as humans are on a personal level. I'm sure they're not as chaste as they tell you

Writing this post made me watch the scene again and I caught something I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone else point out yet. When he's psycho-truth-serum'd up, Varang asks Quaritch if he wishes to serve her, to which he replies that he serves no one. That's interesting, since of course on paper he serves the RDA, all of his superior officers, fronts as mr. soldier boy, and so on. But in his heart, when he can speak only truth, he says fuck that shit. It's of course obvious throughout the latter films that that's where this is going but I found it neat that you essentially have it confirmed in one line there.

They were never monolithic nor one dimensional. They even warred with each other. But they all followed their real, tangible deity. What you wanted is a tribe that rejected religion and instead sided with the white man invaders. This will of course lead to their eventual destruction and conquering of the savage land to profit the settlers. It's a classic happy ending for the white man, and a tragedy for the natives. So it makes sense you'd find that more interesting.

You guys think we're going to see any good human characters ever again? Every single human introduced in the last two movies is either a cartoon character or a cardboard cutout.

Also, if there's a timeskip in 4, what do you think is going to happen to allow it? You kind of have to set up a static situation first and everything still seems completely chaotic as they stand right now

The human city is enormous now, there's a dozen more popping up, another wave of human colonists has come flooding in with reinforcements. The Na'vi have been driven even further away by the humans and Mangkwan. They were never going to win and it's only a matter of time before Pandora is colonized and run into the ground. It's why Neytiri eventually ends up heading to the dead Earth

Where are they even going with this plot? There's no way the Na'vi can defeat the humans unless Eywa has some asspull Deus Ex power that destroys all the humans and their infrastructure. Are they going to learn how to co-exist, with Na'vi being relegated to reservations? Are the humans going to completely win and destroy the na'vi? I can't imagine the ending being very satisfying if there is only two movies left.

Humans have been shown to be able to:
>grow a kuru
>breathe on Pandora
>fully interface with Eywa
>fully interface with Pandoran wildlife
They will be shown to be able to
>reproduce with na'vi
and the entire series is built on human/na'vi romantic relationships and asking the questions: What makes a human, human? What is a soul? Are our physical forms incidental to what really matters, the soul? Can we all choose to live different lives, to enter a new world and learn what life really is?

It's all leading up to humans and na'vi becoming one people, united by blood and spirit and faith.
>>
the real Jake died during the soul "transfer"
Eywa is a computer, it's just a cut paste of data on the hard drive (brain)
when the hard drive have too much defective sector, it fail, like how Grace failed the transfer

Earth Humans will never become one people with the Na'vi because it requires making some hard sacrifices: they will need to give up never-ending growth. They can't just continue to breed endlessly so there's 100 billion people. They can't destroy all the forests, empty all the oceans of life, pollute the air, and fill the world with plastic trash. If humans were to settle there, it would only be for like a few million and they'd have to remain around the max population number Eywa sets. She is the guardian that maintains the balance on the moon so it lives perpetually.

did I speedwatch or did they ever explain why humans were even allowed to come back and settle as much as they did. It feels like a big damn plot hole to me. First movie already had Eywa send the damn hordes. But then they decide to just have her let the humans come back, touchdown, and build a fucking polluting city? Anyway, fire and ash feels more like a part 2 of way of water instead of a 3rd movie. For better or worse. Wish they didn't try to fake out Navitch like that, it would've been fine to just have his girlfriend save him and see them fuck off.

Porn artist here, there's no demand. I've made Avatar art, and even the popular stuff is niche. Literally the first scene of the 2nd movie. The expedition scale is just so much bigger this time around because the goal is specifically to build a colony instead of just mining (plus they preemptively torched the forests around the landing zones so there'd be no animals to send)
>>
>>216873918
That ship landing was so fucking dumb; the ISV's literally were not built to withstand an atmosphere. My guess is that the writers and science guys had the RDA use warheads but Cameron is such a boomer that he didn't wanna show nukes working or being useful, despite the fact that Bridgehead is OBVIOUSLY powered by fission, if not fusion.

>Netyri sucks
The simple truth. And they, until now, failed to establish any other female characters with presence. Or that wouldn't vanish you to the ATF shadow realm.

Rule of 3 applies to most series to be the minimum for true lewd posting. Avatar just got it's 3rd female character if you count lolibaba sigourney weaver now that she's legal in Pandora years. The fish women didn't land at all. The teen has 0 art and prego mom has like 5 graven images in 5 years. And no sfm porn.
>Varang already had a viable 3d model made before the movie was even out
And a lora for slopmaking

We really should have had 6 or even 9 characters as a "roster" by now but the female characters that haven't been varang or netyri have gotten minutes of cumulative screentime in 9 hours of movie.

How the fuck is dipping your long range transport ships into a turbulent atmosphere to blast ultra-radioactive slag all over your landing site more logical or plausible than using a nuclear warhead as a daisy cutter?

People who get mad at the humans losing in the sequels aren't paying to the big picture. Some literal boats and probably fewer than 200 total human deaths is inconsequential in the big picture. It's like the British losing a handful of patrols on the New York/Canada border and thinking the Indians are going to capture Boston.
>>

Movie 3 is like the battle of islawanda where a thousand British died deleting a third of the Zulu nations military. Before the squid ex machina the assembled naavi had gotten slaughtered by the ash tribes inexplicable ability to actually kill things that would die to human weapons. With bridgehead and the thousands of men shown to live there being completely fine outside of a damaged refinery complex a lot of people will be very mad at the unexplained massive expansion of man (again)

Two whole movies and she didn't get a single scene that was as badass as any of Quaritch's in the first movie. I feel like that was a bad move by Cameron. There was space for two antagonists. The new human commander should have been someone respectable not a joke

>as commander she wanted to be last off the ship
Really dumb since she's not an admiral nor captain of that ship. Her responsibility is to Bridgehead City, the overall human force on Pandora, and the entire human colonization effort. That bitch should have been off quick and the actual boat captain could go down with the ship.

The first movie made it feel like every human on Pandora was potentially moments away from death at all times. Jake is a combat veteran force recon marine and everyone instantly accepts that he's dead if he has to spend one night out there.

At the same time, humanity still felt untouchably powerful. Jake and Grace desperately pleading that the Omaticaya have no conception of what's coming and the slow buildup to the hammer being dropped is more impactful than any of the battle scenes we've gotten in the sequels.

>>216874559
Quaritch was fantastic in the first one. His presence dominated every all-human scene he was in. He wasn't just some meathead who looked big in shirt sleeves; he really came across as an exceptional man who was fully aware of the responsibility on his shoulders but also absolutely confident in his ability to carry it.

If there's one huge criticism I would make, it's that every single adult who's a real character is now CGI. It's all sugar with no salt.

Yeah, it goes to show that all of the effects are lost without a strong narrative core that they all serve cohesively.

The scene in the first one where Neytiri actually holds human Jake for the first time after he's almost choked to death on the air truly manages to express how vastly alien the humans and the navi are to each other. Contrast how Spider and Kiri aren't even that different height wise and how everything in the ocean seems weirdly non-threatening to the point that humans can just jet around in mini-subs taking potshots.

They could have made a movie where Jake and co. have to go into a really dangerous region with lots of dangerous predators and a really hostile tribe of Na'vi, but instead we got more harmonious whale slop with some angry squid.
>>
>>216875272
Cameron made Avatar without knowing that he would ever be able to return to that world. It was his baby and he knew he had 1 shot to make it count, so everything in that movie is as close to perfect as he could make it.

Now he has a blank check and doesn't have to consider anyone else's opinion about anything. So he's free to focus on the things he values most and de-emphasize the stuff he doesn't think is important. So the series went from 80s style sci fi action to fantasy space opera and as a consequence the villains became flatter and less formidable, Pandora became more tame, the na'vi became less alien, and kids began to share centerstage with the adults. It's Jim's true vision for his universe, but it's not what the first movie was.

Why do people say this is anti white?

>calls out neytiri racism as hypocrisy (BLM fraud)
>Jake even tells her to embrace their own humanity
>pigskin as a degrading slang

Jim woke up. This is his best movie since aliens

There was a group of black people in front of me in the theatre that "ooh"ed or giggled every time "pinkskin" was said. They definitely enjoyed seeing a culture with a meaningful slur for white people.

what are those ridiculous chains and rings made of? the ones the matriarch whale wears.

100%, Spider grew a kuru out of nowhere once he got the fungal infection from Kiri. I think Eywa is more interesting as an alien parasite.

The average American black is violently racist at a level that would get a white American a door kicked in from the FBI. "Pink skin" barely registers among the other stuff they say.
>>
>>216882100
>meaningful slur
South Asians say that slur all the time, it's not new nor is it offensive coming from a race who's skin looks like literal shit - so I couldn't see it working in AVATAR either

Imagine introducing her to the history of Earth, feeding her Earth cuisine, reading her philosophy and religious books of Earth, seeing her react to different things. As Quaritch gets closer to her she begins feeling more comfy letting out her cute side near him, she doesn't need to put up the facade of being strong around him only. I need a slice of life TV series starring Quaritch and Varang now.
>>
>>216878474
Quaritch and Varang will have a whole litter of evil children next movie. And they will hate their pinkskin step brother

Among it's other problems, I feel like Jim wrote himself into a corner.

Jake resumes being Toruk Makto, unites the Navi clans again and... they *lose* against a whaling operation.
Eywa intervenes but all this does is wipe out the whaling op, the human city is still standing continuing on with it's thing, and they know humans can be adapted to the atmosphere.

How are there stakes going forward? The combined power of Pandora can't take out a lone PMC
>>
So now that Eywa is confirmed as a real, sentient, all-mighty being, Varang was totally right that Eywa abandoned them and let them intentionally starve?

She could have just sent some of those amphibious squid to go jump on lava to give them calamari.

Actually it seems every problem ever on Pandora was personally signed off on or at least tolerated by Eywa
>>
>>216883113
Yes, we knew that already since the last movie. This isn't star wars. They can't defeat the evil empire. There isn't a happy ending and the settlers will eventually flood pandora and destroy it. All they can do is to enjoy the paradise for what little time it has left.
>>
It didn’t hit me until rewatching some bits of 3, but Grace’s Avatar body is still around, chilling in that tube in the lab. I can’t help but think that this will be important later (perhaps Kiri gets wounded and transfers her mind to her mother since she’s a clone, or something)
>>
>>216883154
No. Eywa has never worked that way. Eywa maintains balance and order of the ecosystem, that is it. If one tribe decides to genocide another, Eywa does not take sides. It is only now that Eywa has acted because the humans were an existential threat to the moon's overall ecosystem. And Eywa is not confirmed to be a being. It's an interface to a computer-like system that Kiri can now access and control. Just because your computer displays a friendly face when you log on doesn't mean it's alive

>>216870418
cute, sauce me nigga
>>
>>216883186
I don't know, doesn't seem hard to motivate a scenario where the human settlers have had enough with corporate greed and incompetence and force a change in leadership to a faction that wants to preserve humanity and to do that they need to preserve Pandora.
>>
>>216883206
Sorry to ruin your fun, anon. But the real reason they keep it around is as an onahole for the humans there who don't have their own avatars.
