varang is his light the beacons/gondor calls for aid moment. when everything seemed to falter, and the fandom was waning, and the hype was fleeting, he brought out the sexy dommy mommy "I'll cut off your penis in your sleep if you talk to other girls"-energy secret sauce and by Eywa, it made 3 billies!

The Avatar, he is Hindu, no? Blue, lika Shiva. Is a Hindu myth. Many, many arms. But James Cameron, he reverses, he reverses the limbs, like this he goes woop! and no more many arm, now is many legs. And the movie keeps making the money because it has legs, and I laugh, who think to do this? James Cameron, he think to do this, he dreams this maybe, and what else he dreams? He makes the Hindu god into the cat, everyone love cats! Ever since ancient Egypt we love the cat, it hunts the rat, it hunts the Mickey Mouse, and so they fear it, the Batmans and the Spider-Mans, they fear it, because the cat will kill them, and the cat is blue like the sky, always we look to the sky, we dream to fly, and what James Cameron do? He make the blue cats fly!
He do everything we ever want!

My theory is that Jim could've gotten A4-5 greenlit with the success of Way of Water but he's holding them hostage until he gets funding for Alita 2-3 and the studio will only give him his 4-movie deal if Fire and Ash is a megahit because the original Alita flopped
>>
>>216914989
That's probably it. It's very common that prestigious directors use a personal project as leverage against the studios when negogiating for future movies. I'm guessing after Fire and Ash, Cameron has proved that Avatar is not just a novelty but an enduring cinema series and Disney will probably oblige to whatever he asks for.

ironic that for a guy criticising how the franchise is uncreative he literally does not voice a single original thought in the entire review.

>Quaritch somehow has returned and has a sexy evil bitch
>He dies, but it's already confirmed that he and his sexy evil bitch wife return
I thought there was a lot of great character development in this film.

That's twice in a row that I've disliked the final fight between Jake & Quaritch though. He needs a better choreographer or something. I know they're supposed to be tired, but they're military men and it'd be much more interesting if they had some interesting dance-moves instead of two retards rolling around on the floor while everything is getting destroyed.

Quartrich will likely finally become good, similar to Zuko's path being long and fraught with controversy before his baptism in fire. It's unlikely quartrich becomes a race traitor, just an avatar for righteous human interests. With how masculine the films are and the focus with balance, there is likely going to be a common Sky Father and a call for humans to balance and honor their Earth Mother. Cameron is a reasonable guy and just wants balance; he is a sub enthusiast not a luddite. It's been implied twice now that if RDA stuck to a sustainable whale harvest, they wouldn't have problems.

Fire people were hardly in the movie. The last hour was the same fight, scene for scene, from Way of Water. Jake and Neytiri are shockingly bad parents. Quaritch needs to either die or not die. Should have spent more time with the traders, traveling the world and seeing new sights. Spider is the most competent character in the entire movie despite being a manlet with a ventilator. This movie was retarded. I give it an 8/10.
>>
>>216917791
Holy based, I could have written this post. I found TWoW frustrating and seeing the whale shit end and broccoli hair die were great. Neytiri is sexier than ever and in a constant sex-off with Chief Hello Kitty.
>He dies
Off-screen doesn't count, this is only a "death" if 4 & 5 didn't happen.
I loved how much wise-cracking Quaritch was doing, he's becoming the main character.
Sad how Lyle disappeared halfway through the film, I hope it doesn't turn out he's been killed. Despite being totally unwillling he was a loyal wingman for Quaritch's alien pussy arc, he deserves greatness.

For me it's the weird fact that every na'vi seems to act completely normal (by human standards even) except Neytiri who still acts like she's half-feral or something. I laughed when her and the water mom were having a wife argument and then just started hissing at each other. But jokes aside Neytiri has way more PTSD and been through more shit than every other character in the film. Her realization of how far gone she was before running to Spider at the end was a good arc for her. If we get a 4th movie it will be nice to see an enlightened version of her.
>>
>>216921298
My cope: It's because the narrator in a3 (I don't remember how it was in a2) is Lo'ak and he overexaggerates certain things
Same with RDA being so fucking incompetent that their massive force gets wiped by savages with stone age weapons and they can't do anything about it despite their tech and recon advantage, seriously those guys can see every whale in the cove but they don't see na'vi setting up a trap? But you could chalk that up to them being corpos and just not caring about doing things competently
Or the scene with Toruk getting up after being shot fulll of arrows which is supposed to mimick Jake finding new will to fight and na'vi counterattack

>>
>>216920994
If you were making these movies from scratch, a human soldier falling in with a crew of alien mariners/traders who sail the skies of a bizarre planet on airships held up by giant floating jellyfish would have been a rock solid setup for a whole series. That easily could have been something Jack Vance wrote in the 60s or 70s.

The only good movie in this franchise is still the first one, when the sense of discovery and adventure were at the forefront and it wasn't just 3 hours of miserable softcore torture porn of watching blue people's houses get burned and family members get tortured. And none of the actors are very good, lol. The franchise is thoroughly mediocre, which is probably why it's so easy to be entertained by. It's big, expensive, nice to look at, and empty at its core. But I still enjoyed it.
>>
>>216916809
Where does it say those are the domestic numbers? The tweeter’s name is “global box office” not “domestic”
>>
>>216921544
The entire point of that scene is to have an Abraham sacrificing Isaac symbolism. Jake even tries to call out to Eywa for guidance.
>>
>>216921562
I mean that setup alone would still be good for an Avatar sequel. The sky people were defeated in the first movie. 2 and 3 should have been about adventures in Pandora. The world is still beautiful, it's just submerged in all this corpo military bullshit that, frankly, isn't all that interesting. I just want to see more Navi, more fauna and flora, and more cultures. Instead we get glimpses of it before the marines show up again in their helicopters.
>>
Why are normies like this?
>>
>>216921529
The moment when they wake up to Spider suffocating in the middle of the night and Ney just decides to wait it out instead of helping save him was brutal. Was that implying she misplaced those mask filters or am I overinterpreting?
>>
>>216920712
Hard to goon to proper furry porn with the Chinese government censoring so chinks gotta make do with the furry movie.
>>
>>216921682
The main problem with the franchise is that the planet is perfect for exploring but wherever you go it seems like it's the same tribal villages copy pasted with a slightly different theme.

Those sky merchants looked like they come from some other franchise desu, it felt like a final fantasy thing. I wish the entire planet is like that. made out of cultures of various stages of "refinement" and so on. But Cameron just keeps defaulting to the same primitive native tribes vs colonizing humans shtick.
That final battle in 3 felt like almost the same one from 2. I swear like 50% of the shots looked copy pasted from the second movie. Maybe he's going senile or something. I get that he likes water-themed bullshit but come on.

I think what I disliked the most was how convinient everything played for the main characters and how lucky they were all the time, neither Jake nor Quartich dying after all that shit is just ridiculous at this point. Also in the span of the two movies there were way to many kidnappings.

Watch it again. As she's acting that way, the camera cuts to a closeup of her deliberately moving her kuru to connect to Quaritch's, which is how she turns the tables. She also escapes Neytiri's hold pretty quickly, though I think she was really worried there.

The cultural impact is in going to see them. It is weird they're only successful as movies. It's weird that it is common to see kids wearing clothes of other billion dollar franchises but not Avatar. I don't believe there is any difference besides what semantics the people around them used. Especially because of anon's super computer theories I subscribe to. There is no data transfer from the basics of computing to the nervous system. Data is copied and wiped from the source matieral.
>>
>>216923312
If counsciousness is transferable then the concept of soul is pretty BS. Spider only needed an invasive species to make changes in his DNA to grow an UBS port and he could interact with the planetary computer without issue.
>>
>>216923312

It's kinda clear it works like an organic computer. It stores the "information" of a person by copying their neuron synapse stuff. Even giving Spider a way to breathe the air was explained "scientifically".
They all continue to live in an organic computer essentially. And then that computer (or a human tech equivalent) can copy the stored info into another person.

And as we see with Kiri it's possible that the copied person is then a separate individual since Grace's personality still exists as a separate imprint from Kiri's.
Eywa can essentially copy/recreate/store any person and make as many copies of them as needed looks like.

Hope Cameron goes somewhere with this and Eywa manifests the earliest navi from way back when this first started to do a lore dump.

He's not going to turn race traitor, but he is going to be purified and see humanity is acting against itself. He'll turn against the RDA to save earth.
>>
>>216923682

The end game is humanity and the navi combining into one.
Just look at Spider and Kiri. That's the template. Both are "of both worlds" and in both cases they have been altered.

Cameron is cheesy so a solution will be to get the human side to yield and adapt to the environment and then it will be implied that Eywa's seed/philosophy will be brought over to Earth to "repair it".
>>
>>216923682
He will go against the RDA because they will they will try to fuck with the firechuds.
Then blue jesus will install the Eywa DLC on Earth to repair the biosphere so that humans leave Pandora
>>

Indeed.
>family oriented
>muh balance
>Navi God is Great Mother

Anyone doubting ought to consider the films are overtly tracking the five traditional elements: air water fire earth and spirit. People talk about no cultural impact, but ignore the spirit through organic computation stuff was considered weird and dumb in 2009, only for the zeitgeist since to develop spirits and magic as memes and patterns in the shared human consciousness.

Cameron said a long time ago, well before 2 and 3 were full into production, that Quaritch would evolve in very interesting ways over the course of the films, he's definitely on a journey rather than just static antagonist, and I think it's working.

Why is it stupid? You can clearly see the giant tree and ritual transfer his essence at the end of the first movie and They give a detailed explanation on how they made Quarich and keep harping that he's not the original Quarich.

Seems like you want to hate it for some reason.

Because there's no fundamental difference between a "copy" and a "transfer", first of all. And the fact that they keep saying there is doesnt make much sense because they make it like its a big deal, but why should it matter to Quaritch? It might have mattered to the original if he was alive and having a blue clone around, but from blue Quaritch pov there is no difference. The process was seamless and he woke up in the new body, just like Jake did. Can Jake truly know he was "transfered" and not "copied"? Would it have made any difference to his experience as a Navi? I think not.

I struggled with trying to understand why the decision to repeat those story beats was made, i believe it had to do with what the Tulkun whale elders said, on how violence repeats in a spiral. I think that's the theme of A3 is that we're seeing the characters live through similar events to A1 and A2, and A3 ends in a literal spiral vortex.

The one thing i would change, if Cameron does go through with extended cuts for A2 and A3, is have at least 1 character go "Hmm, things are happening again, just like before." Or something.

To argue on if the tree actually tranferred his soul is undetermined because we, in real life, dont understand what consciousness actually is. And to delve into the same discussion regarding Na'vi Quaritch will have the same pitfalls, they said they transfered his memories and his "consciousness" into the recom body, but they don't specify if thats the same as his soul, etc.

BUT i can say for certain that the process for Na'vi Quaritch was NOT in fact seamless. They essentially reloaded a save state into a different body. Na'vi Quaritch had to be informed of his own death and all the events that transpired after.

Is there "continuity of consciousness" or "soul" like what seems to have happened with Jake? Undetermined. But the processes at play between the tree transfer and the recom save state seem very dissimilar. That's relaly all i can say.

It's been emphasized to him that he's not really Quaritch but a copy of day-old memories from a man who's been dead for 15 years, just a product of technology and he's not obligated to continue that person and identity. There's "biological" technology going on with Jake and Ewya and the transference there but it's obvious much more direct A to B, leaving the previous body behind.
>>
>>216927086
>BUT i can say for certain that the process for Na'vi Quaritch was NOT in fact seamless. They essentially reloaded a save state into a different body. Na'vi Quaritch had to be informed of his own death and all the events that transpired afte
From the save state he was on to the moment he woke up it was seamless. That some years of "real time" were missed for Quaritch and a couple of minutes/hours were "missed" for Jake as he was under transfer is no fundamental difference to the process. If you have a cloned blue body ready you could die and be back up in the same amount of time the transfer of Jake took.
Blue Quaritch is not the man that died in the suit, but he is very much the man that was saved on a drive, and those men were not very different.
And again if the "transfer" process for Eywa involved transfering Jakes memories to the planet drive and then back again in the new body, making it essentially a copy, would it have changed anything for Jake?

I think that's bridging a lot of gaps that we cant truly bridge because the save state memories were stored on a hard drive and later relayed to the recom brain. This will fall into the same problem of "continuity of consciousness". Like in The Prestige, you have to ask, when Jackman uses Tesla's cloning machine, is there continuity of consciousness between him and the clones? And the thought experiment of the consequences of teleportation, if a machine creates an exact copy of you on the other end of the teleporter and destroys you, is there continuity of consciousness? Because if there is a delay in destruction, technically there are two identical people on either ends of the teleporter machine. Are they "continuous"?

Because of the fact that we dont understand what consciousness is in real life, and because there was such a large gap in time between original Q's death and recom Q's awakening, i will tend to lean towards the idea that original Q and Na'vi Q are two completely different entities, souls, consciousnesses, or whatever you wanna call it. Na'vi Q is just slowly breaking free from old memories that were falsely implanted into him.
>>
>>216927955
>is there continuity of consciousness between him and the clones?
I think we could say there is because of how the clone reacts to the gun, no confusion at all about the context, he know where is is and why its happening. Nothing indicates theres any difference between the two in any case.

> i will tend to lean towards the idea that original Q and Na'vi Q are two completely different entities
Ok, but why? From blue Quaritch pov there wasnt any time gap at all, why is "real time" relevant here?

>memories that were falsely implanted into him
Why falsely? He has no other memories or personality that the ones he was transfered. The doubts over his mission/obsession about Jake should stem from what happens to him after, and what type of life he can expect to have in strip mined/terraformed Pandora. Trying to separate him from his own mind because "he's not the same man" might make sense for Jake because it's been 15 years, for Quaritch its been a sleepover. Would the 5 years in cryosleep between Earth and Pandora mean that everyone arriving is a different person?

I don’t, I just like trolling all the faggots who spend all year going “this movie has to make eight trillion dollars in the first hour or it’s a FLOP that will make everyone involved perform seppuku” about every other movie that gets released.
