In honor of BB's passing, I'm sharing a film with you:

L'Ours et la Poupée aka The Bear and the Doll (1970)

Dir. Michel Deville
Genre: Romantic screwball comedy

A quiet cellist living in the countryside has his life disrupted when he accidentally bumps into a wealthy, temperamental woman in a Rolls-Royce. Angered by his indifference to her charm, she attempts to seduce him, but he resists her attempts to invade his peaceful life.

TRVKLEAR HOLOCAVST

>>216939415
Hmmmm agree but disagree because I believe I am following the same philosophy with my approach. I just treat the entire oeuvre as one constant series of motions. I mentioned this before with Ozu, how I started realising his godhood after seeing maybe 10 of his films and they all rooked same — the transcendental ritual spans across his films as well as within. So when I listen to 60 Miles Davis albums in a row over a period of weeks I feel like I’m getting the same study that one would get by perusing one single album 60 times. But even then I’m not so crazy about Miles in general and don’t listen to him that much now that I finished my deep dive. I do listen to a lot of albums several times, I’m not a oncefag for artists I enjoy. In fact I can even listen to single songs for hours on end and enter a trance state. Fucking youth…. Working youth….

>Favourite Jayne Mansfield /film/ or performance?
I really like Rock Hunter but her character arc is resolved pretty softly in that, The Girl Can't Help It has the much better role. Unfortunately not many good roles or films after that. I hate that they dubbed over her in all the European movies where she has a lead role.

>Favourite /film/ic sex symbol?
I really like Jayne but I'm honestly not sure. How many sex symbols have actually made films worth watching? Sexy roles are really undervalued and underwritten. Even Harlow didn't get the best roles.

>Favourite comic actress?
Paula Prentiss is pretty funny. Also Miriam Hopkins and Carole Lombard. That being said I haven't watched much from any of them. That's all I can think of immediately. Maybe I need to be watching more comic actresses. Any suggestions?

As a die hard ‘gento worshipper and a die hard JCon simp I can admit that it’s a 3 star movie, a bit better than Trauma but not as good as the lesser prime ‘gentos like Nine Tails and Four Flies. I would say Cunnomena is probably his worst flick of his 70-87 god run. Still good overall but we all know why it’s so popular.

Yeah, it's a tad overrated but JCun and the score elevate it to an 8 for me. From one diehard to another, it just feels… lower budget for some reason. I bet it looks stunning on the big screen though.
Suspiria = 10/10
Tenebre = 9/10
Opera = 9/10
Deep Red = 8/10
Phenomena = 8/10

It was probably me. Low and high IQ are able to appreciate Argento for his movies exactly as they are: Visually amazing creepy thrillers. While midwits view film as something dialectical and that if the movie isn't saying something profound or presented as a mystery box then it has no merit.

>>216946362
its a really interesting phenomenon. there are a lot of new movies that have a shit ton of color yet they still look flat. the reason for this is multifaceted, but a lot of it comes down to lighting.

everything is shot "neutral" now and is adjusted in post production. whereas before that option didnt exist, so the lighting for every shot had to be picture perfect in the actual shot itself. led to much more depth and color that doesnt look boring and uninteresting.
i hate modern film so fucking much it hurts

>>
>>216946566
You should.
>>
>>216946566
That’s a great horror movie for Gio-kun to watch if he wants breedykinos. Very sexually charged yet not explicit at all. An extremely sexually frustrated movie. By the end of it, you’re practically screaming, “Let’s fuck! I’ll fuck anything that moves!”
>>
>>216939085
what are some of Bardot best films?
>>
>>216946649
probably the exact reasons youd assume: saves cost and is way easier.
lighting is expensive, and every time you dont get it right, you need to go back and reshoot which adds significant expense. shooting everything flat and just dealing with it later is cheaper and easier.
nolans odyssey looks like it will be a great example of this.

Makes sense but someone like Nolan should have basically a blank check. Pic related is the exact shot that made me start thinking about all of this. Just look how dull this looks. One thing I will have to give Cameron is that the Avatar movies are bursting with color even in the scenes where the setting is meant to be dark and monochrome.

i got ridiculed for praising it a few threads ago but i stand by my point. it's unironically of the best films i've seen and i vastly prefer it over the original. it's a self-indulgent, mindfucking, experimental epic in a positive way. it's a very loose "remake" btw.
