what is the federation's law on pedophilia? is it allowed in the holodeck for example? what if there are races who openly practise pedophilia as part of their accepted culture? would it be a violation of the prime directive if they tried to stop it?
>>
>>216984473
Mental disorders are curable by then. It's illegal and urges would be fixed rather than allow in the holodeck. The prime directive takes ultimate precedence as implicit in the name PRIME directive.

I'm rewatching Chain of Command and I can't believe how whiny the crew is. The way it's filmed and the way the music cues hit you're supposed to hate Jellico just because he wants changes, but he's literally just telling the crew "this is what I want you to do so we're prepared for what's coming" and they can't stop complaining about how they don't want to do things his way. It's kind of ridiculous how insubordinate the crew is to Jellico just because he has expectations and he's direct and blunt
>>
>>216984741
To be fair, he was supposed to only be in command of the ship for one mission, and in the process of doing so he wanted the entire ship's schedule and rosters reworked within hours of getting the command. He didn't try to slot himself into the role, he just wanted everything done the way HE wanted it to be.
If he was originally coming in as the permanent new captain it'd make sense, but since his role was always supposed to be temporary the crew is justifiably pissed at him.
>>
>>216984822
There was a good chance he was going to permanently take command of the Enterprise, Riker noting that they usually don't do the ceremony for a short period transfer and Jellico telling Picard flat out "you're probably not coming back from this mission, I hope you beat the odds".

But yes, the crew didn't know this and he didn't give them a comfort time frame to adjust to him and his expectations, which is addressed when Deanna approaches him. He flat out says he completely understands them feeling that way but he doesn't believe he has the time for it, asking Deanna to do her best to help with morale.

Current day internet and junk food is already enough to have dopamine fried my monkey brain. Holodecks and replicators would be a 100x improvement on even that. I don't think we have it in us, that high-minded ideological evolution that Picard talks about. How people in the Trek future live to better themselves. Humanity would be gooned to death.

It does seem like a large percentage of Earth colonists are essentially Amish.

But, surely holodecks are everywhere. Quarks is just a pub and they've got a couple. All those colony planets would have pubs. And on Earth, probably every other major planet too, there would be so many holodecks. And so easy to get to too. Like how Nog at the academy went to granddaddy Siskos for dinner every night. Traveling to the other side of a country is nothing. Anywhere on Earth, you are five minutes from a holodeck.

Funny, more like the opposite. That's a pro-eugenics way to phrase it. When the take-away of the Eugenics War was that eugenics is bad. Ban genetic engineering. So weak traits survive.

The Prime Directive is the #1 rule of Starfleet. It forbids contact with any race that has not developed warp drive tech on their own so the Federation doesn't interfere in the natural growth of lesser planets. It actually originates and comes up in TNG a few times.

New Year - New Trek

Just a Baker's Dozen of days from the debut of a brand new series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy:

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy introduces viewers to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.

If there was another show with the themes of DS9 that was as well made as DS9, of course it would be a hit. But that's never going to happen because screenwriting has become a paid therapy session for millennial women.

But DS9 wasn't a hit. The ratings dropped to nothing, and the franchise stopped referring to the show, except for a couple of episodes of Star Trek; Lowers Decks. Probably so Nana Visitor could keep her SAG insurance.

A revival or remake wouldn't do any better.

Picard didn't resolve shit other than personal storylines

It introduced a bunch of canon problems and then said "whoopsie! 'member the Borg?" and just moved on to the next thing constantly. also the personal storylines are retarded like clone picard

>>
>>216992199
>>"Producer" just means "Who is funding it"

This is literally the opposite of reality. Producers work very closely with the production and are nearly as integral as the director. Executive producer is a much more nebulous term that does not necessarily mean they had that much input at all.
>>
You should have one (1, singular) EP with creative input that is your showrunner and that's it. Most successful shows ever follow this model.
2 can be done, 3 as well but that's gotta be the max.
>>216992302
Yeah Trek had a ton of line producers and supervising producers, guys like David Livingston who also directed but is credited on a ton of episodes, etc. Guys who make the show go behind the scenes.

interesting how Weyoun was actually legit mad when Sisko said they're not allowing any more ships through the wormhole and then he I guess realized his mistake and tried to play it off like it's not a big deal it's just all the Cardassians' fault anyway. very smooth. Sisko totally bought it and still doesn't hate your guts at all, such a skilled diplomat. if there's one thing I wish this show would have done better is making Vorta actually effective as far as the "we're going to put you at ease and fuck you over under your nose thing." everyone they try it on from the Alpha Quadrant writes them off immediately as creepy and untrustworthy.

>A film producer is a person who oversees film production, from finding and selecting promising material for development, through to post-production, marketing and distribution of the film. They plan and coordinate various aspects of film production, such as selecting the script, coordinating writing, directing, editing, and arranging financing. The producer supervises the pre-production, principal photography, and post-production stages of filmmaking.
>Executive producer (EP) is one of the top positions in the production of media such as films, television, music, radio, or video games. In films, the executive producer generally contributes to the film's budget and their involvement depends on the project, with some simply securing funds and others being involved in the filmmaking process. In general, the film producer is more involved in the hands-on production of the film. In television, executive producers are sometimes involved with the production in a hands-on capacity, but their roles are highly variable

STD is a bad example of anything for a few reasons, least of all it being episodic.

First, it's non-canon. It wouldn't exist in the Canon, because the Canon lore rules of the universe would undo it. The Temporal Cold War Accords would forbid/return/destroy Discovery for even a fraction of its shenanigans.

Starfleet has time travel in the 2900's, but the entire galaxy crumbles in on itself when no one has warp after the Burn? Get serious. Captain Braxton, or any of his replacements on Relativity would fuck Discovery up and undo everything. And that's all before non-John DE Lancie Q's from resetting everything.

No other series before Discovery has ever mentioned the ship, any crew members, any missions, or any tangential references from any of the above.

The writers wrote themselves into a corner that can ONLY be solved with retcons, other universe nonsense, or non-canon status.

The entire series was DESIGNED to be a 'fuck you' to the franchise and its fanbase. First tranny, first non-binary, first gay kiss, first expletives, first gender fluid, first pansexual relationship, blah blah blah. Then there's all the "Kurtzman puts his own spin on established lore" shit on top of that, and that's how we get nuKlingons and nuFerengi, Sneed, black Progenitors, Emerald Chain slavers being *le misunderstood victims*, android Picard, the bullshit that is Section 31, how they did Icheb dirty, lesbian 7/9, I'm just so sick and fucking tired of it all.
