I’m really disappointed with how stupid the RDA is portrayed as in the last 2 movies. First in TWOW it was the recom squad, all this hype about how Jake sully is doomed with them on the hunt and literally half of them die in the first battle against just Jake and Neytiri (and neteyam), with the rest getting curb stomped on the ship. In the first movie the RDA were shown as a less professional force, no standard uniforms among troops, just mercs sort of doing whatever, but in the final battle in Avatar 1 they are way more competent and after the initial shock quickly devastate Jake’s forces on both land and air, only being beaten because eywa showed up. In the second they are way more uniformed and professional looking, but less competent and so much more inefficient.

In the way of water except for the opening train scene and neteyam death not ONE Navi is killed as a result of RDA action. Zero, not even in the final battle in TWOW does a single metkayina die. It’s absurd and takes away all stakes because you know the heros will effortlessly save the day while the stupid humans will be stupid and do nothing at all. The final battle in FAA was laughable at first, again just a one sided massacre against the RDA until the mangkwan showed up. At least the Cet-ops were somewhat competent and managed to kill a few Tulkun and Navi. Sec-ops on the other hand were fucking ridiculous, losing 3 fucking dragons and all other air assets with NO kills against Navi. SEND A FUCKING SCOUT YOU DUMB RETARD RDA, SEND 1 GUY TO FLY AROUND AND SAY “Coast clear!” Before bumbling your entire fleet into a trap.

Ardmore has no personality like Quaritch and her forced conflict with the mangkwan was so stupid, you got the air breather and Jake and new allies, everything you could ever want but nooooooooo we need to show how evil and heckin racist the RDA is. I rolled my eyes when she called them savages because I saw it coming a million miles away.

Yeah, I wish the bad guys were a bit more competent. That would also make our heros' victory more heroic. I do like that they showed the importance of native allies in colonial wars, but it seemed weird how the Mankwan suddenly turned the tide of battle.

A2 and especialy A3 also failed to communicate what the stakes of the battle were. When all the humans are killed at the end of A3, was that all they had like in A1 or was it only one of 10 seperate armies? Did they kill all the whalers there are, or are there many more fleets out there? Did bridgehead base blow up and is out of commision for years, or was it only minor damage?
>>
>>217047652
They breastfeed. You can see Ronal's breasts getting progressively bigger based on her pregnancy and Varang mentions that they don't suckle from the breast of weakness.

They do a thing called tailcut in which they cut their neuro tail's hairs leaving only the tentacles outside.
>Avatar 5
Na'vi of the ice, eskimos and sami anologies, they kill alien seals and even though the others navis find it horrible they will say how it's part of their culture and social right.

Na'Vis will enter the space age and become like the humans they fought so badly.
Pandora will be polluted, they will start colonizing another planet.
And so the cycle starts again.

Also Eywa will be proved to be a neuro-abomination that sent it's spores on earth and created the myth of God, Jesus, Zeus, Odin, Shiva, Quetzalcoatl and whatever else there is.

Pandoran AoC is much lower. They are adults with all responsibilities at a far lower age than 18. They can easily die young. It's a harsh world. And pretending like 18 is some magically appropriate age is dumb. It isn't 18 in most of the world and hasn't been throughout most of history.

The nuclear argument doesn't hold a lot of water to me. Why would any company let nuclear weapons onto a spaceship to another planet? If some corpo chief goes rogue he could hold the entire operation hostage and set himself up as the leader of the planet. Besides that there are probably millions of Na'vi across the planet, who are spread so thin that starting an actual campaign to wipe them out would weigh down the financial structure which has to get resources out as quickly as possible to start making back the investment. For something which, from their perspective, shouldn't even be necessary because they're tribal savages.

There may have only been the one factory ship (it seems like there's only a berth for one in the aerial Bridgehead view) and the five Sea Dragons were probably most of what they had. They definitely wouldn't have sent all their aircraft.
Bridgehead is protected by automated defenses with terrestrial and aquatic killzones, a wall even Tulkun can't do much about and a ton of ground forces that couldn't have been with the whaling fleet, so I imagine it's effectively unassailable still, especially considering the losses sustained by the Na'vi. Unless Jim asspulls.
>but it seemed weird how the Mankwan suddenly turned the tide of battle
Half the naval fleet was sunk by Tulkun and a large portion of the aerial escort was downed the exact same way as last time. Then you have triple digit Ikran riders with automatic and explosive firearms descending on the already-descended Ikran. The only thing that doesn't make sense is why the submerged forces suddenly became competent at countering Tulkun, but that's down to Jim favoring over the top ebb and flow of battles. When the natives were winning, only humans were dying, then when the humans were winning, only natives were dying. It was a lot better in the first film when after the initial ambush both sides were taking heavy attrition.
>>

Na'vi are growers because a large dong bouncing around is an evolutionary disadvantage on a planet where you have to run away from 60 ton animals regularly, and underwear is Eywa haram. The reduced atmosphere density means the erection gets larger.

War is the use of collective violence to enfore your will on your oponent. If you fail at that, then you've lost. The USSR and the USA have both lost their wars in Afghanistan. They went in, tried but failed to impose their will and then had to leave again without achieving their objective. Real war is not a video game where a better kill/death ratio gives you more victory points or whatever.

In the case of Avatar: The human presence on Pandora consists exclusively of a private corporation that has hired ex-military mercenaries to guard their ressource extraction operations. It's like Wagner guarding gold mines in Mali: They can not ask the russian government to nuke some tribal villages for them. Especialy not if these villages are in the Serengeti National Park.

I would question if the RDA is even legally allowed to field weapons of war. I very much doubt they are allowed to nuke a garden world.

Speaking about lustfilled human soldiers ... I've been thinking lately. The 40k larpers love to go on about how *realistically* the humans would do warcrimes and use weapons of mass destruction to genocide the aliens. But I believe that line of thinking still follows an unrealistic premise.

Because realistically all those soldiers, miners and whalers on Pandora would just do a coup and overthrow the corpo leadership. They'd kill the other men, and divide the women as sex slaves. And then they'd make peace with the Na'vi, because war and dying suck.

Think about it: Everyone on a Pandora assignment is there on a 12+ year deployment. So no one there has any friends and family to go back to in the first place. And all they get to do is grunt work in the jungle. Just wage slaving for corpos on another planet. The human bases on Pandora are depicted as mostly autonomous installations with assembly robots and 3D printing, where people basically live in post-scarcity. 100% the guys with guns would take over and retire there.

This all makes sense up until the current point, but now that conditions on Earth are supposedly deteriorating and they've been planning Pandoran human colonies for years, Bridgehead has been reduced to mostly its automated defenses and garrison after the loss of the whaling fleet, and Spider has been documented as proof that something can be done to allow humans to breathe Pandoran air, something has to change.
Humanity's investment in Pandora is at an all time high and the Na'vi threat to those interests is as well. Human presence and military capability on Pandora needs to seriously step things up in the next film or it'll be too silly.

It makes more sense to make pointed efforts toward individuals like they have been. Being militarily superior doesn't make much difference if there are infinite pools of Na'vi and you can't kill O'sully Bin Laden. Everything the humans do costs inordinately more than the natives, and if a savage with a rocket launcher can take out a multi-billion dollar magnetic train loaded with minerals, spending more money isn't the right option. Special forces was a good progression for the plot, Cameron just couldn't adequately portray it as a proper threat because he made too many and tied it to family drama.

I don't know what you mean by that but I'm not saying humanity should "win", we know that's not what Jim is going for. But things need to get as dire as Jake is afraid of, invasion-level settling and an actual military presence. It's the sort of crisis point that could lead to the ending where they're on Earth creating some kind of Gaia-Eywa that solves the crisis when humanity no longer needs to leave Earth and also some level of sovl is regained in a post-belief hellhole dystopia with the realization of a verifiable afterlife of sorts.

Neytiri in the beginning: "He will never be part of this family"
At the end speaking to Lo'ak: "If your father and I do not return, you take Spider and the girls and you fly as fast and as far as you can."

Damn, she really did accept him as a member of her family. If she just wanted her own kids safe, then a logical thing would be to leave Spider because Spider is a walking target on their back, they'd always be hunted as long as he's with them. And she had a big smile on her face when Spider was proclaimed one of the people. God, I fucking love Neytiri, all her flaws and character development.

Biggest gripe for me is the music. I don't remember a single moment where the music made the scene. Even in 2, which was a downgrade from Horner's OST, there were a lot of evocative moments in the soundtrack like pic related.

Really big missed opportunity for this story was to have a this mountain be dormant volcano that Varang and the humans would reactivate with some seismic bomb. It would've made the turning point of the battle much more unique and been more obvious a progression than a flux storm.

This. The board members back on earth don't give a shit about the Na'vi, but they also don't give a shit about their mercs wanting to hunt "race traitors". All they care about is meeting quotas in time and on budget. One back-and-forth cargo ship needs 12 years. That's the entire career of a high-ranking manager, board member or politician. War disrupts all of this.

You dorks keep saying this, but no, there isn't some additional hidden giant human fleet of ships. What's there is all humanity has even if it's controlled by the RDA. There isn't a thousand star destroyers waiting just off screen for when le real government decides to act. The leaders of Earth sent their best to retake Pandora at the beginning of Avatar 2. That's as much as they could send in one trip. If that's silly to you, no one gives a shit. It's not star wars and Jim wants the Na'vi to have sort of a chance so that's the way it is.

I know the humans are stupid in these movies for the sake of a message and they're likely going to stay that way. But it would be interesting if the differences between the two races was because the evolutionary process on Earth was more ruthless/cutthroat. The Na'vi live in sustainable harmony because Eywa facilitates it. Human societies had to constantly expand and stockpile resources or become prey to those who did. Even after humans completely industrialized that environment, they never forgot that lesson. In space humans are still stockpiling territory and resources out of fear that tomorrow's enemy is already doing exactly that. And maybe they're right. Maybe somewhere out there is a species worse than humans or Na'vi. And getting lazy and complacent will lose us that fight and everything else too. But of course humans can't have any wisdom of their own and the most nuanced it's going to get is "wow I used to hate pinkskins but now I see how much their planet sucks and I feel bad they can't be cool like us." Thank you Neytiri, very cool.

1. Varang and Quaritch tent scene and him showing her how to use a flamethrower.
2. Neytiri telling Spider "I see you" while crying.
3. Jake and Quaritch talking while Jake is imprisoned. You can tell by Stephen Lang's reaction that Quaritch was shaken by Jake's words about him simply having a dead man's memories and that he's free to choose his own path.

The wind traders thing is bizarre, what happened to 'eywa will provide', it also seems like a significant leap in na'vi civilisation that hasn't previously been seen: before them they were essentially monkey people but now they (or at least one clan) has a sophisticated commercial system?
>>
>>217050755
trade is an essential part of intelligent life, it's not the privileged activity (((some))) want you to think it is.
>>
>>217050755
the (((wind traders))) were also concerned about preserving neutrality which is also weird: so they value their commerce over le eywa or whatever? I get that the red na'vi hate eywa which is one thing, but being neutral is entirely different
if I knew that cameron wasn't retarded I would've thought this is the development of an analogy of british settler-colonial relations that will lead to treaty arrangements

They're supposed to be explained more in the next one. Jim doesn't like giving away too much too soon. In his interviews, he said he wants you to feel there's more to world off screen that you don't know, and be left wondering. What's different about Jim is he's actually thought it through and fleshed it out unlike others who would be making it up as they go along
>>
Why are most of the sea aliens so "earth animal with frills" (humpback whales, literal sea otters, literal humboldt squid) when the terrestrial and aerial ones were so imaginative?
Is it just Jim's real sea creature autism overriding his creativity?

>>217050703
It's just something Pandora does. It makes the world feel more alive and immersive imo, not everything needs to get a detailed explanation because some things just are and always have been and the audience isn't clued in on it. Why do eclipses happen all the time? Why do Na'vi have 2 arms unlike the rest of the fauna? It makes it so it's like an objective lens into an alien world.

Neytiri and Tsireya are OGs.
I love how real Jimbo is about showing male and female characters in these movies. There is beauty in this sincerety and transparency.

It's meant to be a parallel. Jake on earth was a depressed alcoholic living a miserable life where he didn't give a shit if he died. He was at his lowest point. Pandora is literally what gave him new life through his avatar. Not just in the legs department but also when connecting to others.

I'm contrast Quaritch didn't have any of these issues. He was a respected leader with loyal men. We found out he had a love life and the possibility of a family through his kid. Of course he would not give a shit. The reason Recombinant Quaritch does the crap he does is because he lost everything. Much of his team is dead. He no longer is top dog when it comes to military orders. Lost his girlfriend. His kid grew up to hate him. He is at his lowest point. Mentally he is a mess because he is just copy implanted with a dead guys memory. It's also reinforced that going from human to permanent blue man will fuck you up.

A black woman walks into a gynecologist's office for a check up. While doing it, the doctor seems really serious and the woman starts getting increasingly worried. After a long silence and checking her vagina from every possible angle, the doctor starts mumbling to himself, "It is decided, it is decided..."

The woman then loses her cool and shouts: "Doctor, I'm scared! What is decided, please tell me already!" And the doctor says, "It is decided. I'm buying a black Porsche with red leather interior"

>Is it ONLY because they don't have predators in the ocean?
It's more like they didn't have any oppressive predators. Their predators aren't an existential threat so they can afford to have their lofty moralism, and they were treating the whalers the same way. The matriarchs got so high on their own virtue fumes they were even about to let the mothers and calfs be genocided until the LOOSE CANNON YOVNG BVLL and his LOOSE CANNON YOVNG BVLL NA'VI BROTHER ramble-roused hard enough to overrule them.

Holy fuck. The formula that's been saving humanity since the days from before fire mastering and counting.
>>
>>217051468
they explained this
the whales used to go to war with each other, and they kept destroying themselves with the cycle of violence. So they had a council and decided to be total pacifists to stop them from constantly killing each other
this worked really well for hundreds of years because they have no natural predators. But by the time humans arrived, the pacifism had become so ingrained in their culture that they were unable to break the taboo even when it was really obvious to everyone else that pacifism wasn't going to help them.

There are different pods. Payakan was from a different pod than those in the gathering and his whole pod was wiped out except for his sister. The mutilated sister is what convinces them to fight. As far as we are told, all Tulkun are pacifist, but that could mean only those in like 500 miles. And like different Na'vi, the Tulkun in a different ocean could be more open to fighting

What do you think was Jim's personal billie threshold to determine whether or not he does 4 and 5?
>>
>>217051468
This was explained very clearly in the second movie, that long in the past, the Tulkuns used to be exceptionally violent and aggressive, warring with each other to the point that they nearly wiped their own species out, and they realized they had to end their cycle of violence, so they swore to never kill no matter what, even in self defense. A little like the Vulcans but with pacifism rather than detached logic.

The biologist that explains some aspects of them mentions that they have more developed emotional cores in their brain than humans or Na'vi, so they have much greater depth of emotions in general, which includes negative ones, presumably why they were so violent towards each other in the past but also why they were able to stop, because they felt the full breadth of the damage they were doing to themselves. As for why they were still adhering to it, it had been their way for hundreds of years, maybe longer, and they had no natural predators until the whaling ships came, a totally outside context problem.

And yes, the whales absolutely can connect with Ewya, they have queues in their mouths, we see Payakan unfurl his and connect with the spirit tree in the reef during the ending montage in this film.

>>
>>217053732
I trust in Big Jim. The film will make 1.6-1.8 billies worldwide, and it will be seen as a moderate success rather than a huge one, but they will still want another one. Avatar is pretty much Disney's biggest money maker franchise when going by per-film profit, they won't let it end just like that. Cameron definitely seems like he wants to take a break but I don't think it will be for very long, give it a year or two and he will be back at it.
>>
>>217053911
There is a lot of re-exposition in 3 that wouldn't need to be there. You could also hone in specific concepts and arcs into something less drawn out and repetitive. The way they unfolded people have accurately pointed out that it runs like binging a series.
>>
>>217053885
My only complaint about the two sequels is that they are not long enough. They need to make an extended version for both of them with the deleted scenes.
>>
>>217053968
>1.6-1.8 billies
>moderate success
Budget is 350-400mil and marketing doesn't seem beyond average for a real blockbuster, so breaking even probably isn't far beyond one billie. Grossing 600-800 millie beyond that is still a great return.

Do you know why bombs look like that? Do you know why they're still infamously inaccurate even after being shaped like that? Do you know why they're still not accurate even when dropped from a specialized plane with all the specialized dropping gear and targeting computers? You CAN'T just drop rigged explosived from a rigged bomber from orbit if you want it to actually hit your target. That's just not how physics works

>>
>>217054229
>It was revealed to me in a Vision
>>
>>217053774
All it confirms is that Eywa at the very least reflects the beliefs of the Na'vi. At the very least, Eywa effectively stores copies of "souls" that can continue to interact and accumulate experiences, at least while the kurus of people who know them are connected, and Eywa presents itself as the goddess the Na'vi conceive.
Eywa could be more than that, and probably is to some extent, because the laws of Eywa are not something a naturally-occurring god-fungus could conceive of without firsthand experience or external instruction. The Na'vi could have a forgotten history of violence at a higher technological level that was forcefully expunged by Eywa unlike the Tulkuns' remembered history of violence that doesn't have to do with tech. There could have even been a worldwide concerted effort to destroy all trace of advanced ruins and artifacts to avoid any temptation to violate the taboo, to not know what they're missing.
>>
>>217054179
unironically i could watch 4 hours cuts of all of these movies with more nature navel gazing (and some more RDA tech porn thrown in too) and enjoy every second
>>
>>217054183
You are mistaking continuity and intentional paralels for repetition. The whale scene is useful to show that despite what happened in the second film, the RDA is still trying to hunt the tulkun. Could be removed possibly but then how do you introduce the continuation of the conflict? It's the same war as the second film.
Quaritch/Spider's interrogation room scene is very deliberately visually the same as the one from the previous film. But if you pay attention they are actually the exact opposite and are used to show the evolution of Quaritch's character. In the first scene, he tries to convince Spider that he can be trusted by showing him the Quaritch dog tag and saying "I ain't that guy", trying to suggest he has changed. In the second scene he says the exact opposite, showing the tags and saying "I'm still me, I checked".
