Watched the whole thing today coming in blind. I did not expect it to be a invasion of the body snatchers show.
I kinda wish it played itself way more straight (har har) though, the whole show tries to push drama but it's all coated with the same reddit quirky chungus sardonic comedy dialog that every other modern show suffers from and it's impossible to actually engage with the whole premise seriously because the characters themselves don't engage with it seriously either.
I'm not even sure I liked it. I was engaged, the acting was good even. But I don't know how much I'll care unless the next season steps up in some way.

Not only is he right, but he's also right that Buddhism is more material than Christianity because its monistic - all is one - while Christianity has lofty notions of this being a passing phase on the way to heaven and unity at that point with the divine, something unattainable on Earth, unlike the Nirvana of Buddhism. He's also right that Buddhism is more materialistic than Christianity for the same reason, and proved it with scripture. Get lost, jeet, go eat poop about it.

When 'material' is contrasted with 'intangible' it clearly doesn't have to do with materialism in the commodity sense. Having just finished a commentary on the Heart Sutra and Nagarjuna's Karika last week I have to agree with the other anon that putting Christianity below Buddhism is bizarre. Dependent Origination is a rejection of all being and nonbeing

I agree that Buddhism is monistic but I don't see how you could come away from that thinking that makes it MORE material than Christianity, it is a hard rejection of not jut all substance but all modes and even thought itself. It also constantly emphasizes the fleetingness and immateriality world in its idiom (at least in Japanese, I'm not so familiar with English Buddhist terminology, eg. 如露亦如電)

they say so because Buddhism completely rejects anytthing spiritual/transcendent/eternal.
In Buddhism, this material realm - whether you accept there being ghosts or not - is all there is. There is no grand plan. There is no eternal, other realm.
Its just this material plane, and certain arrangements coming in and out of existence.
>it is a hard rejection of not jut all substance but all modes and even thought itself

That show is exactly like Severance: it all comes from one good plot idea but goes nowhere because there's not enough talent to properly build the story, so it's just one filler episode after the next where nothing of substance happens.
That show must take a few weeks at most to film, but they'll take years to shoot a new season where nothing happens, drag the idea over 3-4 seasons and eventually wrap it up.

Sorted by screentime the show explores the characters of Carol, the Hivemind, Manosus and Diabete. Especially the Manosus and Diabete scenes are almost nothing but character study.

For example we learn that Diabete is a hedonist who used to live in poverty and wishes to live out his idea of a pompous american dream. He understands more about the nature of the hivemind than he lets on, basically agreeing with Carol's conclusions, but he cares more about his own short term pleasure than the survival of humanity. He is trying to be a good person who helps out others, but he morally rotten.

Here you got more of an essay than you deserve.
>>
>>217065930
>used to love in poverty
This is never once stated. He probably wasn't rich, but there's no evidence that he was poor
>he understands the nature of the hivemind
none of these characters truly understand the hivemind (except for maybe the one who joined on purpose, but she's probably not in there anymore so who knows)
>agreeing with Carol's conclusions
actually, he disagrees with her conclusions. He cites the fact that there is no more crime as a positive of the Earth being plurbed

everything you wrote was either wrong, not supported by evidence, or painfully surface level

I had a dream where Zosia died.

The deepest thing that Pluribus tackles is the ancient Metaphysical 'Problem of the One and the Many'.

https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/problem-of-many/

https://chalcedon.edu/resources/articles/philosophy-the-problem-of-the-one-and-the-many

Insofar as that is concerned, it connects to the three categories in the bottom left corner.
>>
>>217066141
>read between the lines
Once again there is absolutely no evidence for this. They could have easily planted that seed, but they didn't. Anyone, if given the opportunity with no consequences, would do what he is doing.
When season 2 comes along and it's revealed that he didn't live in poverty, what are you going to do then?
>you misquoted me here
Simple mistake, my bad :3
I don't understand how you could possibly argue that he understands more about the nature of the hivemind than he is admitting, because once again, there is absolutely no evidence for this whatsoever
The writers left clues regarding Carol's eggs throughout the season, so it's not like they can't hide the things you're saying in the show
It's just not there
>character might be lying
if he were lying in that instance, the rest of his actions don't reflect that
if he secretly is against the plurbining and wants to fix these, he has done absolutely nothing to further that cause

you making intuitive assumptions about a character with absolutely no evidential basis is not engaging with a character study
it's closer to random dart throwing

Lol, found the cumbrain

> that he understands more about the nature of the hivemind than he is admitting, because once again, there is absolutely no evidence for this whatsoever
He shows that he doesn't actually believe that the Hivemind is a good thing. He believes it is beneficial for him and that's why he is defending it. He would never want to join it himself, his conversations with Carol make that clear.

Again try and watch the entire show and not at 2x speed with liberal skipping forward when "nothing is happening" on screen.
>>
>>217066605
>found the cumbrain
I was talking about travelling the world, but whateves
>he would never want to join himself
you said that he agrees with Carol's conclusions. Her conclusion is that the world needs to go back to how it was, and he flat out disagreed with that.
He may not want to join himself, but he also obviously doesn't want things to go back to the way that they were

I did, and I skipped nothing.
I've seen plenty of good character studies in my time. The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, to name a few. Pluribus is not one of them.
Where those shows use their time wisely, Pluribus wastes time on bullshit.
>>
>>217066725
> Her conclusion is that the world needs to go back to how it was
The topic was "conclusions about the nature of the hivemind" not "conclusions about what should be done with the hivemind".

He and Carol both have figured out that the individual members of the hivemind aren't there anymore. They have no delusions about "loved ones" and family members still being who they were. He also doesn't think joining the hivemind is a desirable thing for any real human to want. He probably also knows its the end of humanity.
The difference to Carol is he doesn't care.
