Damn, you guys weren't lying about some people just not being able to undertsand why people like these movies. I'm in no way saying that Avatar movies are some genius examples of storytelling for connoisseurs, not at all. But he says without a hint of irony in his voice that he genuinely hates these films and doesn't understand why so many people love them. What causes this? Why would an adult man in his mid-40s not understand why a movie saga that promotes family values, caring about your environment and close knit community draws audiences into theaters? I mean, it's completely fine if he doesn't like these films, but he calls them insulting, and this is just objectively wrong. At no point do these movies insult its audience' intelligence the way some other billion dollar movies. He even says that Avatar series is worse than Jurassic Park sequels in many areas. Really? I'm not mad at him hating the stuff I like, but he seems completely serious in this video.

Watched it for the third time today. Took my parents for their first cinema visit in over 10 years (they hate it and have said no to coming with me dozens of times, but they understood that this film is worth seeing in 3D on a big screen). They loved it and the screening was still full on the third weekend.
>>217096729Should clarify that my parents hated the cinema, not Avatar. This film single handedly changed their minds about the big screen.
I've never watched an Avatar movie but I thought it was supposed to be commentary on the Iraq war or something stupid like that. At least that's what I heard when the first movie came out, now it's just jeets and furries who talk about it. What happened?

If Eywa is a living embodiment of Padora's nature/the Environment itself, She's probably very utilitarian species-wise.Nah, but being realistic they probably exist. (even if it's just to make investors happy). I'm surprised we haven't seen any yet. Cameron could be a giant troll and end up making the utopian naturalist cat people homophobic for some reason. Or just state that homosexuality is much more rare among the na'vi compared to humans. That would really cause a shitstorm. But regarding queers, closest I know of is Okul in AFOP being (probably) NB. And I think there was one side quest that hinted at lesbians in a very roundabout way.

I think Varang is overrated. sure she's cool, but she's waifubait. I still love Kiri. I'm excited to see her character arc. oorrrrrr I really want them to introduce a REAL hippie clan that's extremely free-spirited compared to the other clans. Maybe they could have like jester iconography, or be really savvy with plants. Flowerchild hippie waifu when.
Lo'ak gets his ikran and ilu both killed in this movie he needs to chill. Kiri loses her ikran and is very emotional over it but Lo'ak doesn't care.
>>217097414>oorrrrrr I really want them to introduce a REAL hippie clan that's extremely free-spirited compared to the other clansThat’s the Tulkun

>>217097418This bugged me a lot too. I was also annoyed when neytiri just magically got a new identical green ikran to replace Sze'sze that died in the first movie. What happened to all of that bonding mysticism? I felt worse when my pet hamster died as a kid - no tentacle bond required.
>>217097418Lo'ak is depressed, he'll bottle up his feelings and get extremely emo about it in the next movie.
>>217097253cute
>>217097475its been like 13+ years, there was no appropriate time to show Ney reacting to her car being vandalized.
>>217097475they don't really seem to care for all the mounts that get killed or wounded. sure there are one or two scenes of them empathising but they never try to go back to save them like they do for other Na'vis.
>>217097414I like Varang but more as a side character, I don't want her to become a main villain or anything more prominent. Kiri is fantastic, I love that she is weird and clearly not a normal Na'vi just from hearing her voice, from the moment she showed up in TWOW you can tell something is off about her even if they only revealed it way later. She has a strange mental maturity too that makes you forget she is just a kid barely older than Lo'ak.
>>217097418>>217097475>>217097545The turnover rate of Na’vi mounts in this franchise gets worse with every installment
>>217096073>He even says that Avatar series is worse than Jurassic Park sequels in many areasDude thought The Wall was aimed at Gen Xers who would be have been kids at the time it came out when it was aimed at Boomers who were in the 20's. He has some really dumb takes on movies. Avatar isn't the greatest thing, but at least it's an original idea and not an existing IP turned into a movie, remake/sequel decades later or something banking on nostalgia for a decade
Is still Lore that earth has way more advanced weapons but the RDA isn't allowed/can't use them for reasons?
>>217097589It has to. The normie audience is tired of seeing the world and just wants to see the war get serious and people die, which inherently means animals die too. The Na'vi were never going to win this, it's just down to how many people/animals die before they surrender to live on reservations governed by the humans.
>>217097670more advanced weapons cost more to license for their 3d printers. They're trying to make money.
>>217097683>it's just down to how many people/animals die before they surrender to live on reservations governed by the humans. They’re not going to make five >$1bn movies just for that to be the ending, get real
>>217093856nice tits
>>217097670The humans could literally sit kilometers away, in the dead of night and snipe the Na'vi with impunity. The Na'vi would have zero ability to strike back or see where it's coming from as all their comrade's heads explode. The humans are almost always playing with kid gloves and not trying to genocide the Na'vi. When they get serious, they use ISV's to blast a hole into the forest and make a base that the Na'vi could never hope to make a dent in (unless plot armor allows Neytiri to sneak inside of course).
>>217093856For me it's the shy mangkwat who cowers when Quaritch shows up for a drink at the campfire
>>217097670The RDA uses mostly old tech because they are proven and also cheaper. For example the Samson helicopter from the first film has been in use on Earth for a hundred years during the events of that film. Also the RDA is limited by Earth with regards to what weapons they are allowed to have. They are just a megacrop not a government agency or military force so some weapons are just prohibited for them to have.
>>217097735You get real, dude. The second movie established that they can't stop the humans, all they could do was run. The third movie reinforced that. Even with all their clans together, they can't defeat a human fleet. Pandora was always going to be lost and this will have a downer ending. The point we have all speculated it is leading up to is the survivors fleeing to Earth to try to start anew or reignite Eywa there.
>>217097552I swear I'm not a pedophile.I just find Sigourney weaver hot....I'm not like those tuk sickos.James Cameron you bastard. Joking aside I really hope they do a time skip for the next movie, seeing Kiri, Tsireya, Lo'ak, and some of the other younger characters older and trained well enough to actually fight well against the RDA would be incredibly kino. The real question is who would use traditional na'vi weapons, and who would use human weapons. Also a timeskip would bring us the seeing what a more advanced resistance vs an entrenched RDA would be like.
>>217097692They're in open warfare with the Na'vi at this point. Why not just identify their villages and strongholds and just High Altittude bomb them? Or better yet cruise missile them? That would be a lot cheaper than a years long attrition war
>>217097854Maybe they will. Avatar 4 is supposed to be the one Jim wanted to make the most. And each movie gets darker with more violence. It just took two decades to get to this point in the story.
>>217097854Probably because politicians back on Earth don't want to be accused by their constituents to be in support of a genocide against a peaceful alien race that we have invaded and abused for their world's resources. The only intelligent life humans have found so far. Pretty sure there are still many people on Earth who would revolt if things went that far.
>>217097797>Also the RDA is limited by Earth with regards to what weapons they are allowed to have. They are just a megacrop not a government agency or military force so some weapons are just prohibited for them to have.As if dystopian and essentially cyberpunk megacorp would have any problems to ship some real firepower off earth
>>217097923>As if dystopian and essentially cyberpunk megacorp would have any problems to ship some real firepower off earthI would say it's pretty likely that A4 and 5 will be about exactly that push where the powers that be finally give the green light to drop bigger hammers on the Navi.
>>217097854They probably will now that they have been attacked by multiple clans and had their whaling operations permanently ruined with the tulkun starting to fight. The RDA up until now has been reasonably smart (despite what people say about them) by just focusing on getting the resources they want and avoiding unnecessary conflict. But now they can't avoid it anymore.
>>217097914I think >>217097923 is right, I'm pretty sure a corp that is capable of private interstellar travel to other habitable planets, would be more than capable to get some nukes off world or possibly even build them themselvesHell you could even just attach some boosters to a big rock and just hurl it at the planet, boom extinction level event

>>217097854they need the plausible deniability for the humans back on earth for funding. The RDA is mainly a mega-corp and mining conglomerate that is slowly turning into a PMC because the planet is fighting back. Most people back on earth don't know the full extent of what's going on with the RDA on pandora. If I had to guess all they know via propaganda and exclusion is probably "the RDA has begun mining operations on Pandora, and some of the local violent tribes have been attacking the RDA's operations for no reason and recruiting terrorists!"If they just started ordering a bunch of explicitly offensive things like anti-personnel ordnance, the people and governments back on earth would definitely raise an eye. Most of the RDA's weapons and equipment are justified through their use in resource extraction and defense of said resource extraction. >>217098022I don't think there is a central bit of Eywa you can bomb. there isn't in the sci-fi book Cameron got the idea from.
>>217097999>>217098048I almost have the game 100%'d (besides the DLC's) That's why the side content is better than the main story. The less time you spend around the resistance HQ's the better in my opinion. The game suffers from the same thing as the movies. The worldbuilding and attention to detail is amazing, the sidemissions, sidecharacters, gathering, hunting, and outpost clearing is the real meat and potatoes. But the writing and mainline story is still just meh.
I think the RDA has been hoping to avoid an all-out war/genocide by thinking that if they take out Jake then the Navi won't have a leader to rally behind and they can proceed without much interference. I think after F&A they will realize that they simply can't move forward with a scalpel to take out Jake and will bring in the box of hammers. Like actual tanks and bombers and mechs for offensive combat. Not just defensive security escort stuff but real war machinery to actually shift to an offensive posture.
>>217097999at least you can tell the science puke that participated in genocide and abducted the player character as a child to raise in a weird psuedo mother-child relationship to fuck off
>>217097418>>217097589>>217097683Deaths need to happen to legitimize stakes but there aren't that many expendable named characters to kill off, and the whole Sully clan is already too fucked up about Neteyam. The family pets must pay the price. RIP Flido.
>>217096073I think Nostalgia Critic gave the most offensive review, no fucking way did he give F4 more praises than this movie, a lot of the shit he complained about was explained in the movie but he did complain about how long it was so maybe he just turned his brain off and on or something? Like Spider’s mask wasn’t a plot point in the second movie because he was on a human ship for more than half of it, Spider being able to breathe was explained by the science Navi guys that his molecular and cellular structure was changed with that plant inside him, holy fuck people cmon now, the rest is just pure opinion like the plot not having any emotional beats or impact (bullshit). Only thing he got right was the movie repeating a lot of the same beats with Spider being kidnapped and rescued. Moist critical gave a way better criticism which was actually understandable like why we didn’t see more of the Ash people and how we could’ve seen more fire elements like how we saw water elements in the 2nd instead of just spouting pure garbage

>>217099626I could spend hours just reading the hunters journal entries and other paragraphs, and fucking around just running through the world, but as soon as I get roped into some random story bullshit relating to the resistance members it's a little bit of a snooze. Two big story missions that are incredibly Kino are the Laser Ore Alpha bossfight, and the giant drill. Also some specific outposts are pretty unique. something I highly recommend doing in AFOP is to use the Ikran and fast-travel less (unless you are grinding gatherables for side stuff and clan contribs). One time I hiked and climbed up the entirety of the weeping giant with no ikran and it was very cool.
>>217099883fast travel always ruins these open world games, I remember modding Skyrim so you had to use the carriages outside every town to fast travel and suddenly the world felt so much more significant
>>217097854it's just not that kind of story, you have to suspend disbelief to some degree
>>217099626Same, plus I was surprised how much comedy was in Odyssey's side stuff, felt like the writers really wanted to just make a Xena/Hercules type game and had to do it under the AC brand.
>>217099759Cute!
>>217097854This >>217098052Most of their combat equipment is explicitly multipurpose industrial equipment, which makes sense in-world (limited cargo space and the priority is resource extraction) and also functions to keep the power at least balanced enough for the Na'vi to put up a struggle before they have to hit the big red Eywa button. And despite the cyberpunk setting corps still seem beholden to international law, so no McCruise Missiles, or at least not without a lot of hassle fighting red tape that the RDA just hasn't seen as necessary yet. With the whaling fleet totaled and the whole enterprise having become much less viable vs whales that fight back, the much greater investmest of Bridgehead potentially under threat and the prospect of maskless human habitation of Pandora, what should follow now is much greater interest in Pandora as an inhabitable colony, more leeway for the RDA and potentially international governmental involvement. So we should see the biggest and most militarized human arrival yet in A4, and finally Jake's doomsaying about human capabilities will be realized.

While the first film still has the best soundtrack, there was some great stuff in this film. The entire wind trader raid scene had amazing music. The music for the final fight between Jake and Quaritch is also great, with Spider climbing around on the levitating boulders.

you know what would be a cool character idea. during one of the big battles, have a masked N'avi warrior from an unknown tribe show up and absolutely clean house much to the surprise of Jake, Quaritch, and the other characters, only showing up for a short bit before disappearing as quickly as they showed up. mythical urban legend warrior type. Either they keep this character as a mystery for the shits and giggles or maybe they could drop a very small hint that it might be a previous side character that died or went missing. like maybe this RDA guy who could have gone native and trained for years with some N'avi monks >>217094588lmao.
