why don't women pee themselves more frequently in horror movies? haha it'd be kinda gross but it would make movies more realistic if they included it

Rewatched 28 Years Later in preparation for Bone Temple, and I still kinda like it. Character interactions are great and still better than how they were in Weeks, pacing felt good and its a nice looking movie even though it was shot with a bunch of iphones. I still think the first 40 minutes with ATJ's character are the highlight of the movie though, and at times it feels like a streaming series that was condensed into a film trilogy at the last second with how many characters and substories there are.
Don't hate it though and while its not saying a lot its the only good thing Garland worked on since Dredd, but that's probably because Boyle did a lot of heavy lifting as the director.

I still wonder about whether or not Garland wanted ATJ's character to be viewed in a negative light. Because even now I still don't view him as a bad guy, he could be blunt around Spike but he still wanted to encourage him to not give up because it's an extremely brutal world outside of their island community and he'll have to go out foraging eventually. And yeah he got plastered and fucked some town bicycle, but that's because he knew his wife was dying of cancer and there wasn't a single thing he could do about it, definitely not going to doctor kelson. I view him more as complicated than anything.

they should have figured that out from the script to be honest. I feel that's where all of the problems are
>>
>>217107434
The script went through various changes, so they probably were already signed on by the time it was too late. Same thing happened to Gabriel Byrne with Ghost Ship (signed on for a psychological thriller, but ended up supernatural horror slop).
>>
>>217107470
Ah. Well whoever wrote it lacked any imagination at all because it's just ROTLD with the interesting parts removed. It's a shame, it's not like it lacked the budget.
>>
>>217107541
The guy who wrote it loathed doing horror and wanted to go way into the comedy side of things, so it would explain the extremely uneven tone. A few of the actors from the original movie wrote scripts and every one got rejected. Pretty tragic since the entire cast of the original truly enjoyed it and all had a vision for a sequel that was within the tone and realism of the first movie.

I shudder to think how bad this reboot will be. One of the SFX guys actually posted on /tv/ last month with proof of who he was and he ended up doing more harm than good for the movie. He did at least say the actors that returned were really cool to hang out with.

>>217107652
It was Miguel Nunez. Tom Matthews is also back I'm pretty sure but only Miguel was mentioned by name. Trash is also pretty friendly too but idk if she actually appears in the movie, there's been a whole lot of crazy shit going on with production and rights for it. It was meant to released last month and got delayed a full year.

Funny thing too is the rights to the 4th and 5th movie went on eBay for about $10k and someone bought it after a month of nothing. So some crazy fuck owns the rights to only those two shit sequels.
>>
>>217107689
There's two of them if you didn't know, some kind of sequel starring Devon Sawa (which was gonna come out in December), and then Trash's Revenge which is the original cast but they don't have the rights to the name. Total shitshow though.
>Funny thing too is the rights to the 4th and 5th movie went on eBay for about $10k and someone bought it after a month of nothing. So some crazy fuck owns the rights to only those two shit sequels.
Top kek. I can't even remember if have seen those, but I don't imagine they're great.
>>
>>217107740
Yeah this guy was SFX on the reboot, not Trash's Revenge.
>Top kek. I can't even remember if have seen those, but I don't imagine they're great.
They are fucking BAD bro. They're made for TV movies that were on some obscure sci-fi channel and had basically no budget, so you can imagine why the rights went for less than a used Toyota Camry. You can watch them if you want but I don't recommend it, they're not in the "so bad they're good" category, they're just bad and really boring.
>>

Corn Nuts
>>
>>217107770
Ah. Not surprising I guess, desu I thought there was only 3 because nobody mentions them.
Makes you wonder how hard it is to make a film. Something like Burial Ground just has zombies eating people and hardly anything else.
>>
>>217107770
Hopefully they bought the rights to 4 & 5 to destroy them and erase them from existence.
>>
>>217107999
Well I was very briefly in the industry and I was an extra in a few movies, and scenes that are just talking or drama are easy as hell. You can also do a lot of good shit with practical effects, it's just about how much you care and how good you are at lighting. Bad lighting and composition is what makes a lot of things look so cheap, great acting can look terrible with bad composition.

>>217108004
For that price, probably some superfan bought them just for fun. I admittedly would have too and made remakes just for some fun.
>>
>>217108004

Well The Devil (1972) was pure /film/ and I don't recommend it to horror fans. Sure people die, but it's like people die in historical war films. It was directed by Andrzej Zulawski who made Possession, and he's a genius because it's beautiful to look at. Can't believe audiences just gave up on wanting films to look like this. Apparently was an inspiration for Nosferatu 2024.
Aside from that, this is what you'd put on if you wanted to torture someone who hates art films. Nothing makes sense, everyone is hysterical non-stop, the dialog is like someone reading random lines of shakespeare. Which would be ok but it's impossible to try and parse the subtitles and enjoy the film at the same time because it's in Polish.

CGI has royally fucked it. It's just cheaper to get 80% of the way there. An industry guy I've talked to say cinematographers and crew are just less talented, and that new technology makes it easier for them to get passable results without knowing as much.
Two things I've read is that newer films tend to lack depth of field, and strong contrast. The cameras can capture everything more flat and they make decisions in post, but doing that tends to result in trying to make everything visible - i.e. reducing strong visuals.
>>
3rd time is the charm bros I swear. this time I will finish watching Across the River without falling asleep. it may be a dreary, quiet movie that barely has anyone talking let alone in English that makes it absolutely perfect to fall asleep to when you are cuddly in bed but I WILL succeed this time!

The movie was not very a24, I have seen it. The lone girl with a bad attitude in an apocalyptic wasteland with monsters just doesn’t work especially in 2025. It’s like they wrote a male character but casted a female character. Whole thing felt off.

The parallel plot with the flashbacks is more what's likely to put people off. It draws comparisons with The Monster, without dragging the real x was y into it. They're both decent enough as trapped in one location movies, with similar situations and probably both as irritating to some for similar reasons.
>>
>>217130106
Fuck, I forgot what the movie was like but I can totally understand the anons saying it was woke. I didn’t think negatively of the movie when I saw it. It is 2025, and many people are sick of Ballerina trash.

In movies, they love do the whole “uh who is this guy hitting on mee?” trope even if it is some decent guy so the rejection doesn’t matter as much as the character the jew plays. Even studs and attractive people get rejected. The point for JP is he was playing some cool adventurous guy just like his past movies. He IS the cool character.
