Someone rec'd The Night Stalker when I asked about detective films, my kino lorber for the night. I can spot Maniac Cop jaw on the cover.
>>217132109sure they weren't talking night stalker '72 with kolchak?
>>217132139Wait... that'd make a lot more fucking sense wouldn't it. Yes the 72 one.
Just finished. Standard Spanish gothic 70s stuff. Set in London and the characters have names like "Bob Williams." Not very exciting and free of nudity or much blood. Think it gets the little attention it does because the villain is a guy with a severely burnt face named Krueger. Not really worth watching.
>>217132208
>>217132208On paper gothic horror sounds like the exact film I want to see, but they have a bad hit rate with actually being interesting.
Watch Tin and Tina
>>217132289Spanish horror is good
>>217131812Can someone explain the appeal of slasher horror flicks? I understand why they are scary but i find "mundane" kinda muted. I prefer supernatural horror(and even then its not usually done correctly) with good monster horror being the best
>>217132519Giallos are peak. >it is elevated slasher
>>217132519They center around the kills, which are expected to be interesting and well executed; a spectacle. Inbetween kills, there's usually a lot of fucking around and general goofing, which can make for a comfy watch.
>>217132539Never thought of it that way. Still not my thing but i get it more now.I prefer cool monster horror to see humans overcome their adversaty and because monsters are cool
>>217132539This is a good analysis, effectively the deaths are the structure and you don't need more than increasing intensity on the characters. You don't even need a motive. The other thing I'd add is they're cheap to make. Slap on a mask and start stabbing.Monster films are hard to get right and even simple stuff like a custom fake Crocodile can be expensive. You need to be good at SFX to make it work.Supernatural films structurally tend to replace the kills with spooks. But spooks are harder to pull off, and you have to explain them.
>>217132582Oooooh
>>217132582>>217132569also really gives stunt choreographers a place to outshine a writer or director production-side. with the right crew you have lots of enthusiasm for the project behind the scenes.
>>217132644Masks are an element as well. People love them, scary faces are very primal. Before that, killers generally had to be concealed as a mystery until the end to give a fear of the unknown. But then TCM and Halloween really blew the doors off with getting to have your cake and eat it too, concealing the humanity of the killer while having them run rampant.
I'm certain I've been proper spooked by a slasher before but it's not really coming to mind
>>217132582>Monster films are hard to get right and even simple stuff like a custom fake Crocodile can be expensive. You need to be good at SFX to make it work.Put a guy in a rubber suit and I'm happy
>>217132894I don't find many slashers have a scary element. The main ones I'd say are Halloween and Terrifier, because I think the characters are creepy. Maybe Scream and The Strangers after that.
>>217132974Pretty Kino ngl
>>217132974so that's how a crocodile would wear pants
Well The Nightstalker was kino, whoever rec'd it off the back of me saying Night Flier is a sharpshooter. Makes me wonder if Stephen King saw it, because both Night Flier and Salem's Lot have some similarities.
Watching The Burning again. Who's this cute plumper in the blue bathing suit? The one in the middle. I've got it narrowed down to Ame Segull or Kevi Kendall. I think it's the former but can't rule out the latter.
BLEH!
>>217134136
>>217133057>I don't find many slashers have a scary element. The graphic killings and the lead-up to them are supposed to be the scary elements along with the killer. It's literally the only reason why Se7en isn't more widely considered a horror film while Saw is. Ever since gialli and American slashers the only difference between "scary thrillers" (which is the literal definition of horror) and horror in pop culture is the amount of gratuitous graphic violence. But people will still tell you that gore isn't horror.
>>217135883on its own gore is not horror. the suspense leading up to gore is where you get your horrors.
>>217133375The Night Strangler is good too

This trilogy is such a weird experience for me, I thought X was trying too hard to be smart by being meta and in the end, it just wasnt that good. Meanwhile, I went into Pearl with low expectations and it was leagues above X, Mia Goths performance was just amazing and its a disturbing film, the scene where her stepsister walks away as Pearl follows slowly behind was perfect and obviously the end credits are haunting. Then, Maxxxine came out and when I heard it was giallo inspired it set my expectations to high since I love giallos only to fucking crash and burn, its easily the worst movie in the trilogy and was such a huge letdown after Pearl.
>>217134007>Watching The Burning again.Based. I might rewatch it later today
>>217138106Maxxxine should have gone balls to the wall psycho killer from a former cult on cocaine, because the end to X was perfect for some take it to eleven shitMaxxxine's soundtrack is about the most redeeming thing about it, but I think you could have liked X more with lower expectations My notes on X are mostly the old people make up, and split screening Landslide is too much 70s homage for even the 70s. Everything else was as golden as any bizarre 70s exploitation
Pls gib 70s horror or comfy giallo

The actor picks up whores and dresses up as evil historical figures like Rasputin and Bluebeard while fucking them, and the boy hallucinates visits from famous monsters like Mr. Hyde and Quasimodo, so the point of the movie is just to get Naschy into as many costumes as possible. Howard Vernon is his chauffeur/butler/whore procurer, and Caroline Munro is his housekeeper, who he relentlessly propositions. Somebody keeps hitting every woman who sets foot in the place, and Howard is attempting to resurrect the dead brother using black magic in his time off. A good amount of boobage/bodycount, and low on logic. Pretty good.
>>217154226Yes, but website wars have always been cringe. Chuds still bring up tumblr for some reason.
>>217154411ironically the only retard who brings up reddit is the only one who constantly browses it.he also constantly brings up cucking... hmmm makes you think.
>>217154361You have to rate horror movies differently. 3/10 or 4/10 can be really good.
>>217154384Naschy was a master of disguise. I wonder if he ever did blackface.
>>217154411Because it is political and we are in a very politically divided world right now.

Okay I just finished Octogames. Not a bad movie but I didn’t like the winner.
>>217142838Can't go wrong with The Twilight Zone. There's also Buffy, Stranger Things, Hannibal, The Haunting of Hill House, Penny Dreadful, The Terror and What We Do in the Shadows.

>>217142809>Horror is a genre of literature, film, television and games that is meant to scare, startle, shock, and even repulse audiences. The key focus of a horror novel, film, TV show or game is to elicit a sense of dread in the reader through frightening images, themes, and situations. In the horror genre, story and characters are just as important as mood and atmosphere. A horror story often shocks and provokes with its exploration of the unknown.>The horror genre in literature dates back to Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, where horror stories explored themes related to death, demons, evil spirits, and the afterlife. Examples include the ancient Greek tragedy Hippolytus by Euripides, a gruesome story about how jealousy and a lack of empathy can lead to tragedy; and Parallel Lives by Plutarch, a series of biographies highlighting the many moral failures of man.>The gothic novel, a genre of horror that focuses specifically on death, originated in the eighteenth century and is exemplified by the author Edgar Allan Poe. Horror literature in the nineteenth century and twentieth centuries often focused on tales involving occult ideas, like Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1818) or Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897).>Modern horror novels have expanded the genre to include new elements and contemporary themes, like serial killers and slasher stories—Stephen King’s The Shining (1977) is a perfect example—as well as genre mashups that combine horror with historical fantasy, and modern interpretations of fantastical creatures, like ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and witches.Of course the problems arise because people can have wildly different ideas and interpretations of what they consider to be scary, shocking and repulsive. Most people have a pretty good idea of what comedy is even if they didn't laugh personally, but there is no other genre that invites more confusion than horror, especially cross-genre works like comedy horror, action horror, crime horror etc
>>217155546A romantic drama about a tranny finding love, to me, would be repulsive. It would be a horror movie. The more "family friendly" they attempted to make it, the more repulsive it would be. The horror would be heightened.
>>217155166Penny Dreadful was so underrated
>>217154266This was insanely shit.>>217154804This is probably also shit.Nobody beat the Japs when it comes to elimination/death game movies. Even their low budget ones BTFO of everyone else's.

Just finished. More convoluted but incoherent wizard battling from the director of Devil Sorcery. This is about a wizard looking for a magic bracelet and he's putting curses on people left and right. Not as many crocodiles as you'd expect, the curse makes people writhe on their bellies like crocodiles because of the pain. Uh... yeah, I don't know what to tell you, it's got some cute newts and a guy bites the head off a duck, there's some tits and more girls tied to trees and some lasers, you know if this is your kinda thing or not and it'll make your head hurt.

finished incantation enjoyed it quite a bit. Planning on watching The Medium next. More movies like these? ff ,mockumentary or just similar weird foreign films
It has been 5+ weeks since I've done this and it won't make a difference. Anyway, just watched 2 horror movies and here are my brief thoughts that nobody cares about.>Five Nights At Freddy's 2It suffers from the same problem as the 1st; there's just not enough horror, too much setup drama, and no real threat of anything. In fact, I'd say this one is worse than the first in that it lacks a good ending. With this one, the ending is literally the power of friendship saves the day, like it's some shonen anime shit. Just like the 1st, it's not bad, but not even above average, I'd give it a 4.5/10.>Horror In The High Desert 4: MajestyAs the official FF Chad of 4chan and the #1 fan of the HITHD series, this if some top-tier kino just like the other 3. At this point, you're either watching them all or already swore them off. It builds off the previous two, but does mention Gary. 5 is as far as he's planned out, so I hope he keeps making them and keeps them FF. I still can't wait for when the cabin's location is found and everything is revealed.
>make post>thread diesYeah, that checks out.
I've been watching the Haunted School movies, and the first 3 have all been hits
>>217141186There's barely any actual 'slashing' in The Burning compared to other slashers from the same period. It does have one very memorable scene though and a pretty grim vibe overall which is why fans rate it so highly. And of course classic Savini FX.I think it's a bit overrated though.
