It has been 5+ weeks since I've done this, and it won't make a difference. Anyway, just watched 2 horror movies and here are my brief thoughts that nobody cares about.

>Five Nights At Freddy's 2
It suffers from the same problem as the 1st; there's just not enough horror, too much setup drama, and no real threat of anything. In fact, I'd say this one is worse than the first in that it lacks a good ending. With this one, the ending is literally the power of friendship saves the day, like it's some shonen anime shit. Just like the 1st, it's not bad, but not even above average, I'd give it a 4.5/10.
>Horror In The High Desert 4: Majesty
As the official FF Chad of 4chan and the #1 fan of the HITHD series, this if some top-tier kino just like the other 3. At this point, you're either watching them all or already swore them off. It builds off the previous two, but does mention Gary. 5 is as far as he's planned out, so I hope he keeps making them and keeps them FF. I still can't wait for when the cabin's location is found and everything is revealed.

It added more to the timeline and story for Minerva. It also adds more mystery with the mining company. Now it's assumed the creatures have been around since the late 1800s at the latest. Solidified (IMO at least) that the creatures are some kind of shapeshifter with the ability to kind of resemble humans. Added a mysterious Odd Man, that can come into play in the next movie along with the whistleblower.

Agreed. That Tin and Tina movie from a few days ago was fire. I always look forward to their next recommendations.
>>
>>217165543
if that's true that's good. basically I hate the tv show approach where they don't have an ending planned and just keep churning them out for cash.
I seriously hope paranormal activity forgets any lore that it had built up and just starts a new story as well.

Six days in and I've seen four movies now, randomizing my to-watch list is a wild adventure. So, Recs or avoid if you haven't seem them.
>Crocodile 1979
Stupid and the effects are terrible, but there's an energy and fun to it that makes me say if you like creature features you're probably really going to enjoy this thing. If you like Jaws 2 you'll probably have a fun time, is my point.
>Animale
Avoid. Avoid avoid avoid. Preachy, full of the kind of stupid choices that are more annoying than understandable to get the plot going, and when it does use CGI at the ending instead of just looking at an animal it looks jarring. A really cool idea they squandered.
>Mimic 1997
One of the best monster movies I've ever seen, highly recommend. Special effects are a bit dated in places but in others they're standout, the atmosphere and locations are superb, the characters are fun and likeable for the most part, if you like monster movies and haven't seen it, change that this year.
>The Russian Bride 2018
This one was far and away a surprise. The cinematographer is giving it his all even if it's not perfect and I really appreciate it, the twist is fun if a little predictable about midway, and that finale was Evil Dead 2 level bonkers and fun. Its slow to get going but when it hits its stride it doesn't slow down till it drops, and I absolutely say to check it out.

This is gonna be a fun year.

Pet Semetary 1 is somehow proof that doesn't mean it's going to be bad and in fact can be fantastic, and Pet Semetary 2 somehow puts it right back into "About what I expected for a female writer/director" despite being the same person.

This movie was genuinely terrible.

>Hey lets have loooooooooooong stretches of fucking nothing happening, not even seeing something unique or dialogue, have boring ass one note characters who do nothing and learn nothing, and then end on literal nothing happening

It floors me I was hoping for a fucking jumpscare in the final minute just so something, anything, happened. ANYTHING. I hit 5X speed any time the driving scene with them just staring out the window happened and cut the movie down to under 30 minutes, and that was 30 minutes too fucking long

He was once a beloved actor, he played Hercules alongside Lucy Lawless' Xena Warrior Princess. Great times. But a lot of time has passed, his career shriveled and died, and now he is left doing the lowest tier of conservative and christian slop films. It's a shameful fall.

Just finished. High quality and classy thriller that I'm hesitant to call a horror. It's very Hitchcockian and feels like it's from later than it actually is. A man played by Max von Sydow escapes from prison to commit a murder and goes back, and outright tells the police that he's going to do it again, and it's all about seeing how and if his plan plays out. No idea why this isn't more acclaimed though all I'd heard before we're good things, just feels like it should be more popular.

anyone remember that movie where
>a brother and a sister (both in their 30s-40s) travel to the small, and shit tier, farm of their parents to take care of them
>only to find out that they are nuts
>but actually satan himself hangs out there
>the brother is smart and says fuck that I got a family of my own
>he comes home and finds his family is dead so he kills himself
>but then his family comes home only to find him dead
>the sister stays at the farm and becomes a nutjob too
don't know how it ends. It's a very quite and dark (as in you aren't seeing shit if you have a light in your room) film.

NTA, but horror is probably the one genre that has the most underrated performances in cinema when it comes to genre fiction and I think it's OK to judge them for shoddy acting depending on the type of film it's trying to be. I was just rewatching [REC] and I realized that what makes the movie so good is the convincing performances of the actors. They all feel like real people and that you're actually watching real recorded footage of actual events that happened in the real world. [REC] 2 also has solid performances like the possessed kids, it only really suffers from the inherent limitations of the found footage format where characters will hold onto the camera even in situations where they wouldn't IRL which was simply handled better in the first movie. I think a lot of modern audiences are just trained not to notice the good performances we regularly get from horror movies because of the B-movie stigma.

Jason Miller, Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn and Von Sydow's performances in The Exorcist are all fantastic and The Shining wouldn't work nearly as well without Nicholson's and Duvall's stellar performances either. Toni Collette and and Alex Wolff's acting in Hereditary elevates that film as well and would Scream's climax be nearly as good if Lillard wasn't convincing as a high school edgelord goofball who thinks murdering people wearing a costume is all just fun and games and Skeet Ulrich as the guy the big and tall Lillard was afraid of going against? An obscure movie like The Poughkeepsie Tapes is only as effective as it is because of the serial killer guy too who's functionally the protagonist and some of the victims and there are many, many more examples like that.
>>
>>217185795
>Skeet Ulrich
Unironically carried Miracles, a short lived show about someone vaguely Catholic Church affiliated who is charged with investigating miracles for their heavenly or demonic origins. He plays a not quite catholic enough to make it through seminary catholic, but invested enough to help the church investigate, and that's a hard balance to pull off if you're a cradle catholic let alone just acting
Ironically, the show was cancelled because unless you're catholic it's kind of hard to work out if he's actually in an order or laity and audiences found it too confusing

Horror is underrated overall. Not just for performances from actors but literally everything. Best example I can think of are giallos and how underrated they are in terms of artsiness. Very underrated. Giallos released today would be considered “elevated horror.”
Many top horror films released pre-1990 would be artsy and elevated.

I saw that screening too. Kind of a neat movie. The advertisements of people shitting and vomiting are overplaying it a little - it's not at that level of gore - but it DOES have a couple proper gruesome moments and stays engaging. The plot is literally just Cujo with a Chimpanzee, but the chimp is also acting more sadistic than just plain rabid. That's fine. Plot is (not to spoil anything) by the numbers but servicable. Chimp looks good. I like monkey movies.
