There is extended edition for 1 + another edition that is just extended edition again + unfinished scenes added as extras

2 has no extended edition (yet?) but Cameron said that they have around 30 minutes of scenes that didn't make it into the final cut, were they reused for 3 or will they be ever released is anyone's guess

Finally rewatched TWoW.
Fantastic movie. It absolutely earned its money.
Such a well done script and so many of pure immersive relaxing moments that still work on both story and characters and pay off bigly.
Gut punch from Neteyam's death was strong as fuck.
And absolute fucking bittersweet finale. It made me think that if TWoW and FaA were two parts of one movie, FaA didn't have enough of proper elevating closure for it. Spider got one but this is it. Neytiri and Jake deserved way bigger sweet moment in the end of FaA. Hell, it might be the last movie in the franchise, so what the fuck?

I too was very disappointed. The airship battle at the end of Avatar 1 is still so damn epic. The epic music score, Jake running across the roofs of the ships tossing grenades into the engines while shooting troops in machine gun nests, the huge explosions rocking the aircraft, Quaritch personally going out the hatch to shoot at Jake, were all so damn cool. The human air fleet was nowhere near as awesome this time and the General was pathetic. The subs kicked ass though.

They don't need to. The na'vi aren't winning. A patrol here, a single stretch of rail-line there (probably back up and running in less than 48 hours), even a fishing fleet doesn't really matter in the big picture. I agree with >>217143707 though that the defeat at the end of 3 is large enough to cause a significant increase in pressure on the na'vi

In Avatar the na'vi have every single advantage in the air (surprise, numbers, close quarters where maneuverability > straightline speed, the flux screwing up navigation and automatic targeting) and they still lose after the humans regroup from the initial onslaught. Where are all the na'vi kids? Jake has three, tonowari at the end of AaF also has three. There is that girl who plays with Tuk. Where is all the rest? Are the Na'vi fertility rates below the replacement level?
>>
>>217143485
I agree on pretty much everything, fantastic film.
I think Jake and Neytiri have deliberately been "sidelined" a bit in the sense that they are not the primary vehicles pushing the story forward, their roles are drastically different to the first film thanks to the fact they are parents. Jake can no longer be the loose cannon who rushes headfirst into everything because he has his kids to protect, and in fact it's his jobs to stop his kids from doing something that he would do. Neytiri is just for pain and suffering only. No joy allowed. When she isn't fighting she is busy remembering that her son was killed. But mostly she just fights. She does so much fighting and killing and gets injured every time. The girl gets burned out of the sky and upon landing has to hold off the ash tribe solo while simultaneously delivering a woman's baby.

Grace's avatar was alive but empty because Grace died. It then became pregnant and the scan showed there is no father.
Grace was the first human to ever understand and become friends with the Na'vi. Eywa chose her avatar as the vessel for a child that would be an incarnation of Eywa herself.

Eywa made Grace's avatar pregnant during the ceremony that was supposed to save her life. If her human body hadn't been dying from a bullet wound, she would have probably ended up as a Na'vi in her Avatar body like Jake.

Kiri is not Grace herself in any way. She looks and sounds the same as Grace's avatar because that's what would happen if a child somehow only had a mother and no genetics from a father. Grace's spirit can even be seen in the "afterlife" in her human form, where Kiri is also a separate person.

Nah, it's dumb and cheesy. It's also blatantly obvious that "Eywa" is not a conscious entity singular being. Eywa is not some person you can just talk to nor is it an actual deity. It's a network that controls the planetary ecosystem and can be convinced to do things if it's in the ecosystem's best interest. That's a cool enough concept as it is and doesn't need a "oh, I turned myself into a young girl!" twist.

Made by ancient Na'vi. They have talked about the ancestors dozens of times. The Na'vi have been on that moon for a really long time. It's easily more plausible for ancient Na'vi to have created Eywa than for a random third party to be suddenly introduced having done it.

Kiri > Tuk?Neteyam >>> Lo'ak (Jake 2.0)
Hard to say between Neteyam and Tuk. Neteyam was firstborn son, golden boy, like a male Neytiri and reminiscent of Tommy Sully, the Better Brother. But Jake is very soft for his daughters, Tuk is the youngest and she's Neytiri's only biological daughter.
Kiri goes first because of all his grief and guilt over Grace. He dotes on her like no one else.

If you think about it Cameron is all about technology in his movies, he already had AI in Terminator so it's possible that Eywa is some type of AI. But an AI that can conect to all living things of a planet doesn't look realistic.

Pandora's box already was the Avatar program. They took DNA (nature) from the planet and used it as the tip of their spear to attain mastery over it, but after they did that the planet was already inherently working on their human nature and incorporating it's advantages (strategy, technology) for its own ends. An Avatar/Recom is inherently like a Pandoran immune reaction on human nature, this is why Jake and Quaritch follow the same path. They are more attuned to the natural world and their desire to join with it conflicts with their artificial psychological structures.

If there's anything in "Pandora's Box" it's that Eywa wants to get to earth and infect humans and the environment there to save the ecosystem and return to monke. That somewhere doesn't have to be a sidewalk, park, or a river.

All the weapons the na'vi have are dual-use from tools or hunting: bows, harpoons, knives. They do not have weapons that are specialized just for fighting amongst themselves. Nothing we see in the movies suggests that intertribal warfare existed before the Mankwan went psycho this generation.

They do however know the concept and social status of "warrior", which is weird for pacifists like that. (The flying fish in A2 are called "a warrior's mount").

Why are people so vehemently against the popularity of Avatar? I'm not talking about "you can't criticize the movie." But over and over ppl say stuff like "uh, I don't know anyone who's seen that movie," "uh, I didn't even know they made another one," "uh, after you leave the theater, nobody will remember anything."

Like... why? Is consuming entertainment such an essential part of people's personalities these days that the lack of an Avatar "fanbase" bothers them? Why can't people just enjoy a good movie? There are many popular things that receive a lot of hate (capeshit, Star Wars, even Stranger Things recently), but it's a different kind of criticism.

It's an npc talking point that was made to disparage the 2009 movie. When zoomies look up their favorite youtuber to find out what they should think, they are given this opinion to parrot endlessly.

I think it's the preachy environmentalism + lack of pretense + extreme success. There's something about Avatar that annoys them, it's not presenting itself as something midwits consider "deep" and yet it's beyond successful. That's bred a bitter contrarianism and inability to appreciate it for what it is in a vocal minority of mostly online types.
That's starting to fade as we drift away from an online age of "hyper self-awareness" which was really just hyper insecurity and ultimately extremely lame, gay and womanly. People are starting to enjoy things without feeling the need to explain and justify it to an imaginary panel of judgmental pseuds.

Because normalgroids are terrified of sincerity. Modern culture is all about avoiding being seen as 'cringe' and pretending nothing bothers you. Look at the zoomercattle that got cooked in Switzerland, because instead of escaping from the fire it they recorded it while acting as if they were too cool to care.

Avatar goes against the ironic, quip filled slop the normaltrash enjoys, being instead a sincere movie that doesn't try to subvert expectations or act nonchalant about its message.

>interracial
Pejorative term and it's not even accurate. 'Jaeksooli' is a Na'vi.
>>
>>217149426
They're all interracial (interspecial more like). Jake and Quaritch are human hybrids, Tsireya/Lo'ak is actual interracial since they're the same species, and Kiri/Spider is the freakiest since avatars are mostly Na'vi while Spider is full human.
