99 percent of videogames are not art, a medium can't be a poor imitation, they're toys. The few that are become an experience. The medium is young but I wouldnt have high hopes for it artistically

>>
>>217163536
Holy Spider was well directed but it should have fully been from the POV of the killer. The whole journalist / detective subplot was uniniteresting.
The Apprentice was surprise kino tho, Abbasi didn't strike me as a super strong director, I thought him handling a subject matter as crude as Trump would result in total embarrassment but it was his best movie by far. Jeremy Strong was amazing as Roy Cohn and utterly humiliated Al Pacino who played him in Angels in America quite poorly.
>>
>>217163536
criticism is because it's either banal (ooo even the asexual guy is actually a sex freak he was just too incel) or it's simply false characterisation (asexual PSYCH)
so to have like 4 hours of a film about sex
to hav enothing to say at the end than oh look the guy who wasnt that interested in sex is also sex obsessed is (regardless of how true it is) lame

Not even game devs agree with you

>OPM: Have you heard of Roger Ebert's assessment that videogames can never be viewed as art? How do you feel about that?

>HK: I don't think they're art either, videogames. The thing is, art is something that radiates the artist, the person who creates that piece of art. If 100 people walk by and a single person is captivated by whatever that piece radiates, then it's art. But videogames aren't trying to capture one person. A videogame should make sure that all 100 people that play that game should enjoy the service provided by that videogame. It's something of service. It's not art. But I guess the way of providing service with that videogame is an artistic style, a form of art. For example, look at a concept car. You don't have to be able to drive a car, but if it's called a car and it has artistic elements in the visuals, then it's art. But an actual car, like a videogame, is interactive, so it's something used by people, so it's like a car where you have to drive it and using it. It could be families driving [abridged due to redundancy in examples]... so this car has to be able to be driven by all 100 of these people, so in that sense it's totally not art.

I haven't seen Satantango yet, but from what I've heard it isn't the runtime per se but the LENGTH of each shot in the movie that makes it hard to sit through. Basically you will be watching a fucking 8-minute shot of cows standing around in a field before there is a cut to the next shot, etc.

It has just now dawned on me that I've been subconsciously mimicking Jane in my daily life.
See the "hops" she does in vid related when going over uneven surfaces? I've developed some hop in my own gait recently. Not just on uneven surfaces but flat too. I feel happy walking like that and now I realize why. My walking posture is also becoming tall and elegant like hers.
The conscious mimicking I've done is buy necklaces. I've also seriously thought about dressing up like her but in a way that makes sense. I'm far from /fa/ so I'm paralyzed with my project.
>>
>>217161553
I doubt it would have been offensive at all considering you could be "a white guy" like Tarantino and go on about "dead nigger storage" in the 90s and nobody batted an eye.

I suppose the problem with video games is the hardware. You can simply watch a movie from 100 years ago even on YouTube. But if you want to play a video game from 25 years ago on your PC it can be tricky to emulate without mods or fucking around with the files somehow that it fundamentally changes the game.

>>
>>217170367
Why
>>
I just watched David Lean's 1946 Great Expectations having just finished the novel. I don't know if watching it after just reading the book did me any good because I really could not enjoy it. Couldn't help feel like it would have been better as a silent film because the cinematography was really nice but film really suffers I feel from being rushed along. The scenes never breathe, there is no clear singular arc, it just feels like snippets of the book with no real story of its own. Also, Pip being 20 and played by a man almost 40 just looks so ridiculous. His uncle looks the same age as him and his best friend looks 20 years younger.

Still its interesting to see having just experienced them both in such close succession the difference in sensibilities between the 1940s and the 1860s. For example, Pip and Estrella meet at the end both in their prime, and run off together to live happily ever after whereas in the novel they meet 16 years later, having both lived absolutely miserable lives and the book only reluctantly alludes to their getting together in one line at the end which could be taken one way or the other. While the cinematography really captures the mood of the book, the difference in dialogue taken from the book and written for the film is very noticeable and lacking in subtelty.

Have any of you anons ever actually made it anywhere in film?

I've been making a few things with some friends just as practice with some actors and its taught me a lot. I am very confident in my artistic capabilities, I write compelling scripts, I create compelling images, but technically i'm poor and in regards to networking I know nobody despite living in London

Anyway now my friend has come into a bit of money it means we have enough to hire crew and pay actors for our next few projects which means I can focus on the art aspect and let the crew take over technically but a part of me is awakening to the fact that so many films get made and never ever get seen and its making me quietly pessimistic.

I'm wondering if there is any hope to some sort of real viewership? Because whatever I make will be the type of piece which is appreciated by a few and misunderstood by most people and that means it needs to actually find enough people to watch it. All my films are intended to have meaning and moral lessons but whats the point of meaning if nobody sees it? May aswell make really aesthetic porn with a story

think about it differently. youre making this for you, your friends/family, and those that are working on it. it will mean so much to you to have your vision out there many years later.

making money off of it or garnering a wide audience would certainly be great, but shouldnt be the goal.

i envy the position youre in, dont squander it. dont do anything to compromise it or try to pander to some audience that doesnt exist.

it has to feel honest and uncompromised. then you will have a chance at an audience, but dont count on it.

post it here when its complete. i would love to support it.

rip in void mr tarr.
i once was talking to a woman at social even and told her i watched an 8 hour film by mr tarr.
she asked me what it's about and i said it's about a town where everything is shit and people cling to any hope no matter how absurd. she asked me why i said that it's the type of film that does something new instead of just repeating the same recipe and tropes.
she pretended not to hear me and went to talk with another guy for the rest of the event
